Don’t know if it’s been mentioned yet but if I’m not mistaken there’s usually a pressure plate somewhere under the blocks of the well. Also, I think Iron blocks always spawn under them (or Gold for the Nether one).

The wishing well spawns gold, iron or diamond under that is why you had iron and gold under.
