The Terra Blade, 104% melee speed, and why Violent is sometimes useless

Calculator (default for Legendary Terra Blade!!!) : https://www.desmos.com/calculator/mobnnisuga
Universal Melee Speed Threshold Calculator by yousef: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/pt4k5opgzx
Threshold for 10 use time (6 attacks per second) on Legendary Terra Blade = 61% melee speed
Threshold for 9 use time (6.67 attacks per second) on Legendary Terra Blade = 81% melee speed
Threshold for 8 use time (7.5 attacks per second) on Legendary Terra Blade = 104% melee speed
Threshold for 7 use time (8.57 attacks per second) on Legendary Terra Blade = 134% melee speed
Threshold for 6 use time (10 attacks per second) on Legendary Terra Blade = 172% melee speed, requires literally max theoretical melee speed
Also, melee speed only affects sword projectile fire rate for the Blade of Grass, Night's Edge, Waffle’s Iron, True Night's Edge, and Terra Blade, so it's not worth optimizing for in any other circumstance.
(Having faster projectiles or a longer yoyo is cool but not worth optimizing for)

am i early (posted 1 minute after video upload)
fantastic choice of music
these days i dont even use the terra blade, i just use something easier to get on golem
No one cares if you're first. But this is going to help with my melee build. 🙂
I see terrasteel video, i click
with haste
So that explains why I sometimes feel like I'm not shooting Terrablade's projectile faster than it should. How early on can you get +104% melee speed though? Theoretically
If you don't mind being a glass cannon, you can actually just go for 6 use time as well, although that does mean sacrificing 4 acc slots just for gloves and one for the celestial shell, 2 accessories with violent and needing to have tipsy and at least plenty satisfied on, but other than that, you can still get a couple different reforges on the rest of your gear, and end up having a way better result in the end. (Keep in mind, what i said here applies only in *vanilla*, the build used in the video is tml, where melee speed is slightly nerfed, giving you slightly worse results.)
Make a video on the Nettle Burst.
i always use warding no mather what class i'm playing
maybe faster terrablade than this is useful
but it funy
I missed these videos
What would be the best amount of melee speed to aim for on the keybrand sword?
Vampire Knives. I read on the wiki years ago that extremely high melee speed can ruin this weapon because they’ll only fire on half of the attacks. Is this still true? What’s the sweet spot?
EDIT: Here’s the line on the wiki page I’m referring to: “Some higher melee speed bonuses will cripple the Vampire Knives, as this may cause the player to only throw the knives every other swing. However, the high melee speed will make them fly faster and farther.”
Is there a way to calculate this for any weapon with the right properties? It’s be cool to have a tool that you could just plug in base use time and get similar info.
Algorithm commenf
now use the fettid baghnaks
In older versions, terra blade actually fired its projectile at a much faster rate when you spam clicked instead of held down the button!
I am still going to live under the placebo of maximum melee speed doing more damage per second
I’m sorry did you say OPTIMAL?
Why bother going for melee speed at all? Wouldn't it be better to just go pure damage?
Ohhhh, this sounds like something someone I knew told me once
The Terra Blade pre-rework fires faster until a certain Melee speed, where it actually becomes slower
(This was 2020's mobile, we met just as I was about to leave Highschool)
I don't think more than perhaps, a few dozen people know this, maybe less, even less now that most people play 1.4.4/5
So if you see this, or already knew this, congrats for perhaps one of the most obscure pieces of Terraria Knowledge ever
(Yes he had a list of which weapons were affected, no I don't remember all of them, nor the Melee speed required, but I believe it was similar, around 100%)
Can you make a video like your Daytime Empress of Light one but for Martian Saucers? They're literally more annoying than daytime empress of light especially with that berserk phase 😭
Fun fact: Clothier is a drug addict since he wants to eat hallucinogenic Truffle
how can you tell what extra percentage melee speed you have an any given point?
Deosn't melee speed affect the Meowmere?
This terrablade is the only cool thing I see about the melee class.
people try to make terra blade extremely fast
starlight
Rounding down usetimes is the only use for Violent.
This is likely the cause of misconceptions regarding whether or not melee speed boosts the attack rate of projectiles from projectile swords that aren’t the terra blade
The epitome of minmaxing, hitting the sweet, sweet rounding
Moral of the story, violence is never the answer.
Do I get 104% with the fire gountlet and beserkers glove with all master mode acsesorys reforged to violent. Or do I need something more to boost it to 104% or do I need less?
Thank god someone has finally brought this up. I've being telling people for months that max melee speed Terrablade is overrated. You're literally better using max damage or max crit chance.
I never considered this thank you
This makes me curious what the optimal setup for other melee speed buff-reliant melee weapons would be.

math make my head hort.
It would be nice if there was a system that made it so the tick speed would change in a way that averages out. For instance if the speed value was 7.5 then half of the attacks would be 8 frames long and the other half would be 7 frames.
The issue with that idea is that attacks could be slightly rng dependent and attacking wouldn’t be 100% consistent anymore. However it’s a single frame difference so in most cases it shouldn’t be a big deal
I honestly thought the Melee Speed modifiers were always pointless.
