The old ones army is good for farming coins in pre-harmode (by selling the dark mage boss item drop) but you need a sentry to help you also i recommend using night edge to did this
The Valhalla Armor (that's available post-Golem) is GOATed. Not only has A TON of defense, but the chest plate alone gives you a huge load of life regen.

I was grinding on that in the post game once, & after that I do OOA on every playthrough when it’s supposed to show up in progression.
