But um yeah they only keep them if they need a reference which is really how textbooks end up getting used at like at like um graduate level so it’s like you think like oh wow they’ve read all these books nope not even close it’s like if I could count like how many
Pages I’ve read of a textbook like for all those books up there I’ve maybe read like half of one that’s like the number of pages it’s like maybe half of one that’s the most usually what I do is I look at um I just look at the information that they give

Learning in college or graduate school is how to teach yourself right I I what is it uh a lot of you know there’s a saying um actually since I’ve talked about grad school there’s a saying that what you do in grad school will have nothing to do with
Your actual career and that’s the truth because it’ll like have like some sort of weird tangential relationship but for the most part it’s like you have you figure out how to research things and so when you do things like um when you go into like a research field essentially
What you’ll end up be you’ll end up doing is you’ll try you’ll learn how to um like figure out like how to run tests to understand something that’s essentially what you’ll learn to do your entire field would beg to [Laughter] differ no I’m pretty sure oh well maybe maybe there’s some special chemistry
Stuff but it’s like okay you might you know study drug transfer in um chemistry and then you’ll end up doing like neuros pychology I don’t know but chemistry isn’t a model field do chemists make good money I’m I’m sure they do maybe if they go into some like pharmaceutical research or something I
Don’t know or or if you go into like what is it if you go into like power grid or something like that or battery manufacturing I’m sure I’m sure you could make good money with that you just have to figure out a um figure out a battery that’s like 50 times 50 times
More efficient than our old battery and then you’ll be rich right easy easy just just invent a new battery easy PhD students learn a specific method and do that for the rest of their life true but you know that’s also a very very specific style of research I
Think often I think many of them would probably end up either working for specifically a pharmaceutical or specifically some sort of like academic research or something like that I would think I don’t know you tell me cuz I’m not the chemistry guy and forensics there’s a lot of categories uh true uh
Forensics although forensic is weird forensics is really weird I know forensic Specialists well I don’t know I know of I know of forensics Specialists who you know they went into um they they want they got some science degree but I also know forensic people well I know of forensic people who apparently they
First went into law enforcement and then after that they branched into forensics so it’s kind of interesting there are a lot of possibilities and you know a lot of job possibilities too you don’t have to follow your own you don’t have to follow the prescribed job path which is um what
A lot of tiger parents like to tell their kids follow follow the path make sure you go to here and then go to Harvard medical school and then after you go to Harvard Medical School you go to uh get a job and then you can work as a doctor to take other people’s
Money to be honest I never really understood why um tiger parents you guys know what tiger parents are right parents that are really like aggressive in their children’s future and education and job careers and stuff like that doctor lawyer engineer yes yes that’s pretty much it um yeah I never really understood why
Doctor was among them but I mean doctors make good money so not not General Practitioners though they’re like talking brain surgeons or something you know but if you think about it the doctors that make a lot of money are very applied Fields we’re talking about surgery like specializations like that
We’re not talking um we’re not talking like general practitioners who you know look at um children like uh what is it um what do they call that Pediatrics or something like that but and that’s what we and that’s what generally we think of as doctors so probably the amount made in those
Fields yeah engineer I mean engineer is a weird one to be honest um engineering you’ll you can easily find jobs that make a good amount of money but it also depends on what exactly you want to do with it like if you get hired by Google it’s
Like they’ll treat you well but it’s also this weird it’s all getting hired by Google as an undergrad is this weird game of cards where it’s like you have to memorize what they want you to know in order to get it it’s essentially a college interview when you it it’s like
It’s like applying for a college when you apply for Google which never really made sense to me and the work that they have them do is not particularly intensive it’s just coding basic algorithms so I never really understood no no offense to people who work at Google by the way I’m
Not saying that their job isn’t demanding or difficult but it’s a very weird thing where they do like this whole like college application process in order to work at Google which is not a college it’s a job so you know it’s they’re not they look at this weird like academic
Potential for a essentially a programmer and and and it’s just really weird research researchers researchers do make a lot of money well it depends on exactly what um if you go into like uh if you go into the industry you um depends on what you’re looking for but
You know a lot of different research uh can make a lot of money things like um what is it if you go into def the defense sector you’re just set for life defense being military um they call it defense but um if you go into like the
Military sector you’re just set for life if you’re doing research with them and it’s not like it’s not like set for life as in like you’ll be super super rich but you’ll just have like a comfortable job you’ll have a comfortable life um it’s not like you’ll be like one of
