4 Lighting Alternatives to Replace Torches in Terraria

Torches are one of the most fundamental resources in Terraria whether found in chests pots or even dropped by enemies they’re always there accompanying you every step of the way they’re versatile abundant and easy to acquire but sometimes you just want to quickly explore a biome or you’re simply too

Lazy to keep switching out the active item in your hot bar that’s why I want to share some alternative light sources that can replace torches in your inventory starting with probably one of the most well-known lighting methods for players the night owl potion and the shine potion consuming a shine potion

Makes the player emit light for 10 minutes alone it’s already excellent but when combined with a night owl potion they form a great Duo the night owl potion itself doesn’t emit light but rather acts as an enhancer for other light sources thereby significantly amplifying the effect of the shine

Potion both potions are excellent Alternatives as light sources as their recipes are simple and they have a good duration however like all potions the effect needs to be renewed regularly so it’s essential to always be farming the necessary ingredients moving on to armor stuff there are three items that really

Catch the eye and the first one is the mining helmet its light isn’t anything super flashy but it can be useful you can get this helmet pretty easily either by buying it from the merchant for just four gold coins or getting lucky with drops from Undead miners the second one

Is the night vision helmet which has the same effect as the night owl potion not generating light itself but only increasing the light generated by other sources it’s an item exclusive to the Granite biome and can be dropped by the granite Elemental and granite Golem but after defeating the Martian Madness you

Can buy it from the cyborg for just five gold coins the third and final one is the ultra bright helmet which combines the effects of the two aforementioned items it emits a strong bluish light and enhances the player’s Vision the because it’s part of the mining set and can be

Obtained early in the game it’s a great choice for lighting however it only provides six defense so as you progress through the game its usefulness diminishes and you may find better alternatives to replace it and speaking of more efficient Alternatives light pets really stand out when it comes to

Illumination there are a total of 10 light pets in the game and they become available as the player progresses three of them are available during the prehard mode but they don’t provide worthwhile illumination and move quite slowly so they can easily be replaced by a shine potion only two

Become available after entering the hard mode and compared to the other three they aren’t much better but with the help of a night owl potion they can provide a very good illumination the last five by far are the bests but they only become available after defeating planta and the Golem and

Of these five light pets three are exclusive to to master mode so if you want to have light pet-based illumination my recommendation is to try to get a fairy Bell since its recipe isn’t too complicated and you only need to defeat The Twins to craft it and

Lastly I wanted to talk about one of my favorite accessories the magal luminesence added in 1.4.3 during the cross over with Don’t Starve the magal luminesence is an accessory that when equipped emits a yellowish light and grants a 15% increase in the player’s maximum speed this increase alone is pretty good but

It can be stacked with other accessories like the Hermes boots and its variants its crafting is so simple that you can make it before even defeating any of the bosses using just 12 Demonite or crimtane bars and five topaz at an iron anvil you can obtain one of the best

Accessories for the early game but what makes it one of my favorite lighting methods is the yellowish light it emits it’s soft Blends well with the surroundings and is very easy on the eyes so no matter which biome I’m exploring with the magal luminesence Everything feels a bit Cozier and gives

Me a bit more Security even when I’m far from home I really like how Terraria gives us so many options to choose from even in the little things like deciding what type of lighting I want to use in different situations I think it’s these small details that make this game so

Good I hope you guys enjoyed it and I’ll see you in the next one

Torches are the main light source in Terraria, but not always relying on them can be useful, especially with the many items available. That’s why I’ve selected 4 lighting methods as torch alternatives.

Few constructions in this video aren’t mine; they were created by a top Terraria builder, Khaios. If you want to download the map with these builds, use the link below:

  1. Not mention the Starfury is a crime, while it is not a bright as the other option, it can light up the surrounding caves so you can know where to dig next.

  2. I always feel pre HM light pets are just there so you can see your character when in darkness 😂
For any Seed with the Don't Starve mechanics mining helment and magiluminescence are a must, what I like to do is to defeat the torch god early on so I get torch luck everywhere I'm going, makes life just that little bit easier
