Its a gameplay feature to visit a character daily and slowly break their walls down. Like in animal crossing you can speak to one able sister from day 1 but it takes days of saying "hello" to the other sister before she will even give you the time of day. Its just a gameplay feature. Some characters are super approachable and easy to toss gifts at. Thats a gameplay feature too 😀

Real talk, I think the character development if you actually romance and marry him is a major backslide for his character. If the growth he’d done carried over I think it would be a very different story
I like him because of the content pack I got for him.
I love to romance him because fixing him works here. Not so in reality 😅
And for me games are a thing where I can live dreams.

I’m sorry, that makes you a walking red flag for me. Of course Shane will go back to drinking and being rude if the farmer doesn’t interact with him or be nice to him anymore. What, you think after marriage, that you don’t have to be good to your spouse anymore? That they’ll just magically fix all their issues on their own without any support or affection from you? Wow, then please don’t ever get in a real relationship, because to say something like “sorry your mental health is not my problem” is hella abusive and honestly really cruel.

I love Shane…before we marry him. Like when we're dating we're fine, and he does better for all the people he cares about, but after marriage it's like it doesn't matter anymore. That's why I avoid marrying him

I romance Shane but, I don’t want to “fix him” and no I don’t want to make it worse. I- just don’t know why I like him even- I just do 😭

Alright then let’s talk about Eliot. I don’t think a lot of people take in the fact that when you first kiss the man takes you to the middle of now where in the ocean and kisses you without consent. You can either say you don’t like this or you do like it. But then we have Shane! During his kiss scene he kisses you without consent BUT he then apologizes realizing his mistake! Despite him being mean on the inside and pushing you away he is one of the only male characters to realize in the end the farmer is someone who must be okay with their boundaries and doesn’t want to over step them. That’s why I do like Shane and in the end he’s still depressed and I know I can’t fix him but trying to quit drinking is hard! And some people stay depressed but if you truly love someone you ease that pain. That’s why Shane helps you and you help Shane. That’s why I like him as a character!
Pointless rant: less of “I can fix him” and more like he’s very similar to someone I love IRL minus the alcoholism. What I don’t love is the fact no matter what he’s always wearing that dang joja uniform over his clothes. .-. He’s not even the only one who works there, and he hates it there. Why would he want to wear the thing associating him with it all of the time? Also I know a LOT of people view the blue chickens as a useless thing and in a way you’re right, however for myself it reminded me of my agricultural classes and learning how to actually make blue chickens. I genuinely feel like the dating in Stardew is based off of preference and personal experience.
Edit; I hope maybe they’ll make an interaction extension, because I feel like it would be really cool if they touched more on his interests and him as a person not just focusing on his trauma for the most part. Idk, adding into each characters story just a bit would be great

Nice opinion! I personally will still always marry Shane every time but I understand his character isn’t really the best option, but in real life if those characters were real I’d probably end up liking Shane most.

I accidentally gave him a beer on his birthday and just kept giving him gifts bc I had the highest hearts with him.
the sad thing is i agree with this 100% but i also relate to him as i've been in his shoes before. im married to him in the game now and for a while it was good. he hasn't relapsed but i feel exhausted being the only thing keeping him going
