just some quick tips. 1st change to a classic character, mediumcore just makes the game more frustrating. 2nd talk to the guide more, there a lot of thing in this game that you will never find without the guide. 3rd explore underground more while you're early in the game, you'll avoid the night as a whole and the evil biomes are less prominent underground. i really hope you try the game again, it's one of my favorites. i've been playing since 2012.
As a long time terraria player, some tips! Rope that you find in chests and crafted platforms can help you quickly explore more vertical generation. You can drop through platforms my pressing S, and jump up through them. You can climb rope by pressing the direction you want to travel whilst standing next to it. Also, you may want to check your controls for an option called smart cursor. It was a feature more recently added, I think by default to turn it on it's LControl, and it let's you dig tunnels and fill in background walls more quickly
Why did you made mediumcore? You are going to die a lot and you dont even know this game yet, you will regret choosing mediumcore. Also ignore tin/copper and take chests after getting loot from them.
