  1. The two equipment slots are for vanity and armour. The slot you put the wood armour in was the vanity slot, which means you didn’t get any benefit from them.

  2. You can zoom in and out with "+" and "-" buttons.
13:22 press ctrl to toggle "smart cursor" (it's not really smart, but it cool for digging), and you literally deleted all stuff you get cuz when you leave the world all items you dropped are not existing anymore.

  3. Dont play mediumcore
Make extra houses by placing wood itself like you place walls, add doors, add a torch, and add a table and chair to finish the house. More NPCs should join!
Try exploring to the left and right some, and caving has some necessary materials and permanent buffs! Make sure your armor is in the far right slot, the middle slot is for vanity only

  4. For all of our sake, do not play meidium core or expert.

Edit: Unlike Minecraft, this game is built on the asumption that you will die constantly.
    Do. Not. Play. Meidium. Core.

  5. Some general info:
*according to the comment section, you should play with a character on Classic difficulty instead of Mediumcore. It is way easier to die in this game and being able to have your items again is a blessing. Characters aren't tied to worlds, so if you create a new one and put your old stuff into a chest, then you can retrieve it with another character.

*Items don't despawn unless you exit the world. Everything stays where it is left until you Save and Exit.

*The Wood you get from the trees is placable as blocks. Those are solid and you can use them to build a house.

*You need a block above and below a door in order to be able to place it. A door is 3 blocks tall.

*2 of the 3 columns on the right in your Inventory are for cosmetics. The left one is for Dyes and Paints, which are cosmetic only. The middle one is for cosmetic armor and other stuff. Those do NOT give any stats and appear above your normal armor, which I find pretty neat. The right column is for armor and accesories.

*On the topic of armor, at the bottom of your screen next to the 3 columns is your defense. If you equip your armor properly, then it should go up.

*Also, a lot of armors have set bonuses, if you equip 3 of the same type (like wooden helmet + chestplate + pants)

    *Gravestones can be mined

*To use any crafting station, you need to stand next to it. You always craft from your inventory while having the materials + the required crafting station. The guide's "Crafting" tab helps you with figuring out what you can craft out of a material. If an item has the "Material" tag, then you can place it in the empty square above the crafting window in the crafting tab. There you will see what you can use it for and which crafting stations are needed. By pressing the hammer, you get a more compressed view of the crafting recipes.

(a little side note at the end: you can chage the style of your Health and Mana bars in the Interface tab of the menu (if I remember it correctly))

  6. honestly for the first tie playing i would play with someone who has played the game before which would help you to understand everything before you go by yourself

  7. I personally wouldn't recommend Expert and Mediumcore for your first run, because it is quite hard, but it is funny to watch!
you can also replant acorns to regrow trees

  8. lets go, primaGOAT playng my childhood game, with the actual greatest devs to live on this planet. we love terraria 🙂
also, choosing medium core expert mode is an EXTREMELY brave choice for a brand new player, i would suggest doing at least a classic character. terraria isn't anything like minecraft once you get past the first 5 minutes of gameplay, so basing your desicions on minecraft is a very bad idea

  9. mediumcore is not a good idea as:
    1. you die a lot more often in terraria than in minecraft
    2. the progression is much different than in minecraft, so dying with a lot of good items will be incredibly hard to retrieve with the base loadout, or even with a makeshift backup.
    3. you are in expert mode, so in hard mode when you die it’ll be near impossible to get your items back wi th out getting one shotted. (unless you have an actual decent backup)

  10. Yeah doors in Terraria can seem really weird if you're not used to them. You need a solid block both above and below where you're trying to place the door in order to actually place it. Also, I know a lot of other people have already said this, but mediumcore is not good for your first time playing. There are certain milestones in Terraria which make the normal enemies have more health and do more damage, or let new enemies start spawning, and if you die then and you're left with nothing but your copper shortsword, you're gonna have a really bad time

  11. You can place wood, like, the item that drops from the tree.
    – Make a wooden box that is 11 tiles long and 6 tiles tall
    – add doors to each side (You'll need to remove three tiles for each door)
    – then create the wooden walls and fill in the box (keep in mind it may look filled in but if you see horizontal lines that are thicker than the wood texture you can still place walls there)
    – after that, you need:
    – a chair
    – a light source
    – some form of table or crafting station.

Once you have all these things, an NPC (like our boy Steve) will move in.

ALSO, axes are used ONLY for trees, any peaceable block that isn't a background wall is broken with a pickaxe.
I have 460+ hours in this game and I'm sure other people here have many more.
(P.S. I know it's already been said but Mediumcore is not fun in this game, Minecraft is easy compared to Classic mode alone)

  12. Important tips for your next run!

    1. Check your controls before you start again, knowing them is very important.
    2. Please consider switching to a classic character (I assume you quit before you picked up your items, they're gone now) as Mediumcore is NOT for beginners. Terraria is a very punishing game.
    3. On Expert Mode, enemies have double the health and deal double the damage. However you can obtain greater loot from them than you would in Classic. [So starting on Expert with Mediumcore is basically begging for an instant lobotomy]
    4. Please read the item tooltips, they can be VERY important!
    5. Doors require a solid block below and above them to be placed.
    6. Special actions can be done through the inventory with Shift, Control, or Right Click.
    7. Check all the buttons in your Inventory! Quick Stack to Nearby Chests, Open Bestiary, Housing, Equipment, and Crafting Window are very useful.
    8. If you don't give the Guide (Steve) a proper home, he may get you (and him) accidentally killed.
    9. Check your achievements if you're stuck in progression.
    10. You can typically break foreground elements such as solid blocks, chairs, tables, and pots with your Pickaxes. Axes are primarily used for Trees. Hammers can be used to destroy background walls, alter blocks, and break special foreground elements.
@waldemarjurczyk6545 and @yeetthatbread2811 also has some pretty helpful tips on their comment too!

Also just an FYI, Journey isn't easy mode it's equivalent to creative mode… kinda… You can only play on Journey Mode worlds with Journey Mode characters too.

  13. Hot take, apparently:
Expert is not a good difficulty to start on, expert is only seen as "easy" because you people have 3000 hours in terraria and you think that expert is easy after playing infernum for 900 hours.

  14. Listen Primacon, don't play the game at the mediumcore difficulty man, you're just starting and you're still learning the hang of the game, also make an easy character with a easy difficulty character, not like minecraft but it make your life less of a living hell

  15. if you restart because of difficulty, I would really recommend doing classic instead of expert. its your first playthrough, expert is actually really tough if you have no idea what you're doing

  16. Most of what I'm seeing in this comments section is people saying to not play on Mediumcore. I would also recommend that as well. I have tons of hours in Terraria, modded and unmodded, and I've only played on Mediumcore once. That was one of the few times I fully felt stuck in Terraria.

tl;dr: DO NOT PLAY ON MEDIUMCORE!
