  1. “Our top story tonight: a man who caught lightning in a bottle over a decade ago has been seen standing on the roof of his mansion holding a golf club in the air, claiming he’ll ‘do it again.’ There’s no storm forecasted in the near future, but some lightning fans are still hopeful.”

  2. The specter of a "Minecraft 2" has, at times, tantalized the collective consciousness of the gaming populace. However, the official stance of the developers, Mojang Studios, remains enigmatic. While whispers of "spiritual successors" and "reimagined experiences" occasionally permeate the ether, concrete pronouncements regarding a direct sequel remain conspicuously absent.

Essentially, it's uncertain whether a true "Minecraft 2" is in the offing.

this was ai generated i asked it to speak in big words

  3. heres the thing right: minecraft was successful because it was really novel, and good, for its time. its just the right balance of simple mechanics and complex outcomes, and as a result became popular due to being able to reach a broad market of gamers. it also had no expectations when it was released in early alpha, it just was.
whatever "minecraft 2" becomes, if it releases, will become immediately popular because of the context in which its being made (because it has the minecraft IP in its corner, and Notch's fame from making minecraft), but its longevity will be predicated on the game itself. If he can successfully make another game that hit right, thats awesome! I think people need to probably temper expectations though, because overhyping it ahead of release is the fastest way to end up disappointed that it cant hit the notes we want (and all want different things), and might end up flopping as a game as a result

  4. Why do we need a sequel to a game that's literally about doing whatever you want? If you want new mechanics or features, add them to the existing game.

The appeal of Minecraft, to me, has always been that it's a "do whatever you want" simulator, which is why none of the spinoffs like Legends or Dungeons ever interested me. The one thing that MIGHT spark my interest is the lack of AAA tactics or input from a major company (Microsoft), but even then, just play Java Edition. No microtransactions.

  5. Thing is, the game in your head needs to go onto a computer, and the tone of that post from Notch suggests to me that he isn't actually all that invested, he just wants ideas. We will see.

  6. There's too much expectation for notch to be able to make something that can earn the game be branded as anything like a true sequel.
    It needs:
Native mod support from the start
Much better performance and rendering distance (smth like from Distant Horizons mod)
A distinct art style and notch isn't much of an artist
Better gameplay like combat and multiplayer netcode
Beautiful world gen (minecraft's is kinda ass and has always been)

All of those things are pretty difficult to get right without taking many years to make

  7. Yeah the man that left the game for a shit load of money just to do house parties for 7 years probably getting child pussy on the side with the other Minecraft YouTubers, is now all of the sudden liking making video games while he hasn’t made really anything in general for 10 years.

  8. Microsoft really do make, in my opinion, terrible decisions with Minecraft sometimes, even with Mojang trying their best it can still prove difficult.

That being said…yeah Notch isn't exactly someone I am excited to hear from with this news. First off is the obvious argument that a "Minecraft 2" just sounds silly, it's not exactly something that can be easily replicated and made uniquely. But also, Markus is not exactly a guy that I think I would really welcome in making a "Minecraft 2". The guy is all talk with barely anything to show for his time after Mojang in terms of released products, instead spending a lot of his time online kind of falling for misinformatiob and becoming more assholey to talk to, a far cry of the early days of Minecraft where he was more approachable, at least from what I recall seeing of the man.

This is also a very minor point in comparison to everything, but there is also a reason that the "Hatsune Miku created Minecraft" meme became a thing outside of just people thought it was random funny humour (even if the choice of Hatsune Miku is itself funny random humour)

  9. Minecrafts current design philosophy is so shit id take a game thats the same but doesnt have to stick to all microsofts dumbass rules about not adding anything that doesnt teach kids about life, like making bees not drop anything so kids arnt incentivised to hurt bees and not adding fireflies because fireflies are poisonous to frogs
