The Wacky World of Negative HP in Terraria

  1. By the way, using a lifeforce potion will allow you to see the underflow. (Remember, lifeforce adds 20HP per 100 HP, so it subtracts -20 HP per -100 HP).
For example, -2,147,483,648 HP will become 1,717,986,928 HP with lifeforce.

  2. Pretty sure tModLoader has a hard check for negative HP because of how Life increases are handled. Since one of tML's goals is for the vanilla files to be left unmodified (including players and worlds), it has a second HP counter that mods can change which gets stored in the TML-specific .tplr file. Because of this, I'm guessing it detects negative numbers as being corrupted or otherwise invalid data and resets it. As for why it gets reset to 500 HP, I'd expect they're assuming that massively negative HP values are a result of an overflow and thus reset back to the vanilla max health value.

  3. ok this is something ive wondered for a while and ive kind of been afraid to ask bc it feels stupid but i feel like it might be something you'd be interested in, is there a feasable way of reaching an interger over/underflow in terraria? like 2 billion is a big number but there are lots of things in terraria, what would be the most feasible way even if would take centuries to do

  4. 3:14, as the graph shows, wouldn’t you have positive health regen if you’re above -70 health? Is it possible to have exactly 0 regen, or is it impossible since the max health would have to be a non-integer?
