i also faced the same issue my world also got completely black and had to restart
here is my thoughts on resin blocks in Minecraft, they are a bit too bright and this could be rectified if they had a darker appearance dike a dull orange almost brown as well as more variants of the block such as a burnt amber brick block that would look a lot like coal blocks but just a touch brighter and with a slight orange appearance.

And I do have a suggestion- It's a very minor thing, but I think that if you want the Gravel Barge to be shipping 'unwanted' Gravel and other filler materials from the Resin (Amber?) Mines, there could be the occasional dot of resin in a hard-to-find part of the pile as if they missed one or two bits, thus connecting them in the Lore more firmly.
Or maybe, in some part of the ship, there's a little gathering of Resin that's a bit more hidden away to make it harder to steal. Like it's another one of their exports, and is significantly more costly.
I believe that they would trade it for certain materials that they would find hard to come by. As a race of people that are particularly good at mining and are usually subterranean (underground), they may struggle to get certain Mob-Based materials since they likely spawn-proofed (and highly fortified) most of their Caves and whatnot.
This means they'd have a hard time getting Gunpowder, a very useful tool for excavation, which Surface-Dwellers may find much easier to get. But they'd it consider very expensive due to the dangerous nature of combatting and successfully killing Creepers.
In short, I think they trade Resin/Amber for TNT, with the Gravel and whatnot being a junk product that they'll trade for anything that they think will be useful.

I absolutely loved how the mine gate turned out! You always make such incredible and fun builds that all work so perfectly with each other! Personally I think the resin block is actually pretty cool, but I would like it a lot more if there were different colors of it or if you could even dye it like you can irl. I can't wait to see what you the next builds will be!

You could use the resin block for making barrels of fruit, that way it feels like the fruit has grown and gotten bigger!😆
