Clonk: Terraria 15 Years Before Terraria
What if I told you there was a game that combined Worms, Terraria, and Minecraft – years before those games even existed? And what if you could play it with up to 4 players on one screen? Sounds too good to be true? Then you’ve probably never heard of Clonk!
In this video, I dive deep into the forgotten gem that is Clonk Planet and Clonk Endeavour. From crazy multiplayer chaos to endless modding possibilities, this game was way ahead of its time.

Ah yes, the Germany life simulator
A classic
CLONK MENTIONED
Biggest mistake was not publishing Clonk on Steam. Like what the hell?
Launching monster eggs into the enemies base via catapult… God I miss that.
Here is a hot take, I'd say that Clonk Endeavour's graphics switch from 2d art to 3d rendered art was the poison that eventually killed Clonk, making 3d rendered assets was a magnitude harder than making pixel art assets, making good looking 3d rendered assets was even harder. I'm okay with 3d rendered buildings and some other objects, but they should've stuck to pixel art clonks, they're miles ahead better than 3d rendered ones. Hell, look at clonks in this video, they look ugly as shit! Take a look at Clonk Planet graphics (with GWE), 3d rendered buildings and objects with 2d pixel art clonks. This was THE PEAK clonk and should've stayed that way. They also refused to release clonk 3d model for the community to modify and render their own clonks for years! What a stupid move. Yes I love Clonk and I'm angry.
Glad you made this video, you captured the aspects of this awesome series pretty well!
I have plenty of good childhood memories linked to Clonk, mostly Clonk Planet and Clonk Endeavour but Clonk Rage is awesome if you want to play a round with friends today.
The fact it was so easily moddable certainly influenced my entire life, it just nurtured my will to create stuff.
Big thanks to the developers!
Clonk was one of my favorite games back then. I really liked bio hazard. And i also used many of the dragon ball mods.
I was really sad when they discontinued development on clonk extreme
I never heared of clonk 🙈🧙🏻♂️
Fuck terraria all my homies play clonk now
This must have been an inspiration for cortex command.
Never heard of this game before. Nice video. 👍
amazing video, thank you for your work
this reminds me quite a bit of Cortex Command!! but eitherway i'm genuinely surprised this video has so little views or likes, hope it eventually blows up, such a cool niche gem of a game
This was way better than Terraria, just older. Sadness OpenClonk didn't work out.
Core Memory unlocked, as they say nowadays. Thanks for your video.
Clonk Planet was no-lifed by little me because it was so goddamn fun. I knew when Terraria and Minecraft came onto my list of games, that I would find there (in part) what I had found in Clonk. Fun Fact: Clonk is actually referenced in the Thermal Expansion Mods, of all places, with the ETFLN…which is actually a "Tera-Flint", and even explodes as massively if chucked onto terrain! So in a way, the spirit of Clonk is still alive in unexpected places…thanks for this video!
Maybe it should be mentioned, that fans also work on LegacyClonk, which is based on Rage (in fact it replaces it) to fix all sorts of things.
interesting game should i play openclonk or go with the older ones?
This is more like lemmings + worms.
Insane that this even exists. Would've never heard of it if not for this video.
Absolute Terraria
straight up clonking it rn
I would never have heard of this game series if not for this video, so thank you for making it! Videos like these are some of my favorite things to find on youtube!
Clonk is a goddamn classic! Ever since I had the Shareware version of Clonk 4 on a Gamestar CD in the late 90's I loved this game.
loved that game!
Thank you 10000%. When that music started I all of a sudden had a childhood memory unlocked again. I was FAR to bad in this game as a child and didn't understand ANYTHING. But damm this game was interesting.
Never heard about this game before this video.
This really looks like true ancestor of Terraria and Minecraft (alongside with Dwarf Fortress and Dungeon Keeper)
I found this in a corner of the internet years back only to remember it last week and go insane searching it for longer than i care to admit
you saved me
I like the premise, but the implementation seems a bit clonky.
This game seems extremely German
Clonk was the first game I ever modded. I used the built-in knight AI and set them in a loop, making the red and blue teams attack each other endlessly, so the war could go on forever. Hmm… where did I get that idea from? Looking at you, DOTA.
You couldnt have had a better timing to upload this, i just finished my Design Document for my personal project regarding a "clonk love letter" all totally early but just proves that the YouTube Algorithm once again knows what to show someone when needed most.
Keep up the nice content.
I must have missed this one. Impressive.
holy memory unlocked
Never heard of this before.
But you know what else?
I find it interesting how random small channels be making the top quality videos out of the blue!
Clonk Planet was one of my first games of my childhood. Played it alot with my best friend.
Someone should actually remake this game ngl, it's so unique and fascinating, it would be so fun with multiplayer too
I must have been too young to come across it, but it sounds very cool, I probably would have loved it.
This video just blew my mind. I have about 2,000 hours in Terraria, and knowing that I could have played this game as a child is just crazy.
If you build mine entrance wrong casual rainy day can flood parts of your mine and forcing you to add pumping system to keep exploiting it. It was so fun to solve this little problems in coop. Like all the tech in minecraft, terraria, noita etc can do much better then clonk, but none of them actually provide same experience.
Always great to see interest in this game which had a huge impact on me and several friends.
No doubt that it inspired many players to become software or game developers later.
Also i approve of the inclusion of the floppy music scene 👍
cool
Man I love these early computer graphics.
This looks like so much fun, I m def going to download it!
Hey DoshDoshington, i know your ass is watching this video and i know your ass played this game, you should make a vid on this too
I am too young to have experienced clonk but it seems extremely fun and in depth. I'll have to try it now thanks to this video
In 1998 i played clonk 4 with friends. I loved IT.
Man my friend moved to Canada from Germany in 2008 and he showed us this game early on and we used to always share a keyboard and play it, completely forgot about it until today. Makes sense why I think Terraria is one of the best games of all time, awesome video thank you.
Used to play this lol. Cool video
