This is how I got it with my journey-mode-farm-every-item-character
At 1800 hours played vanilla, I went for the purified world achievement. I dug out all the corruption and hallow and still didn’t find dirtiest block. I’ve used Tedit to find one, and two of the three (small world) were under the sand in the ocean. Never would have found it without the world tool.
i mined my hole hard mode world AND i HAVENT found ANYTHING😪
accidentally got TWO of these bad boys while terraforming my world (I hate smacking into mountains) and just went "huh, why's there an extra dirt???"
Not very, i was 100%ing tararia i decided to get every rare item plus get all achievements and complete bestiary (i did it all in like 2 months) abd i got it when purefing my world
I once was playing calamity infernum and I found it in the first 20 minutes of the playthrough, I was freaking out
400 hours and I haven't found a single one..
I got my dirtiest block by doing a fishing farm at the surface/underground layer, i think it was on my second or third run after the update that they added it, i was SO LUCKY and so happy
I found one while make my hell elevator
I actually got this within the first week of the update being dropped, I then thought this is ugly and just saw that it was like 2 silver to sell to NPC and just sold it because if its 2 silver its not that rare. I haven't found one since.
im going for a shiny dratini in soul silver and it feels like trying to get a rod of discord all over again lol
Definitely a unique item to get for sure. In over 1000 hours I’ve gotten it *three times in the same vanilla celebration world*, but I have yet to get a coin gun in a non-modded playthrough (though that number is only two so who knows, maybe it was a vanilla drop chance)

i kind of just randomlly got a dirtiest bloc on my first playthrough recently when purifying my large world, i could have easily missed that shit with a ful inventor or just not picking it up due to using the celebration to mine but ill take it!
I tried to hunt that on the small world with the best digging mount
It seems to always be right next to spawn.
It makes sense there can be more than 1 dirtiest blocks once you realize its a tie for first place

there is a significant difference between time needed and just rarity, the dirtiest block is a guaranteed amount in each world, so looking for it just takes time and that is it, but the odds of getting 1 are 100% if you just mine out the world. so it can not be the rarest item as there is nothing luck based about it inherantly, if you spend how wver many hours it takes to mine out a world you will get it, but spending that same time on any drop only item is still not guaranteed to be obtained, it would be the same as saying that luminite is rare becuse you need to spedn hours playing through the game to get it, you will get it no matter waht if you play through the game.

i was playing gfb, decided to make a shitty fish pond next to my house in the forest layer, and i somehow managed to bullshit my way into obtaining the dirtiest block
As an aside, dirtiest blocks are way easier to find on CelebrationMK10 and Getfixedboi.
Slime Staff any% would be interesting due to searching for statues
You should have pushed progress to get the black spot and item magnet.
Unlimited flight mount makes any large scale excavation much easier, item magnet is underated.

i found one just a few weeks ago while purifying my world i made when 1.4.4 released with the celebration mark 2, it's definitely something that'll be easier for more long-term worlds

the reason the block is much rarer than the slime staff is the fact that you will be killing fucktons of slimes naturally and probably wont be obliterating your world into a sad pulp in the game
I found it pretty early after playing when it was added and just trashed it because i didn't know it was rare
I got 2 of them when building skeletron arena on mm hardcore lmfao
