What does make sense to me in Minecraft is that, the obsidian, and cobblestones don't burn in lava, so do the other fire-resistant items, and yet if you throw them in cactus or lava, or even fire, they burn. Minwcraft,please take my last braincell.

Actually ancient debris was can be common foun in under lava More precisely in the Broad sea of lava and nether waste biome (more correctly biomes that still have netherack blocks in underlava like nether waste and crimson forest)
And yeah I not lie.
Try searching with spectator mode in Under/Ground broad lava sea in nether waste biome, you gonna see ancient debris

For nether logs, you can craft them into planks and the planks into sticks, which can be used as fuel.
