Guess i'm the 10th dentist cause I find early game legitimately painfully slow and boring. I like the game personally after the evil boss in progression cause that's when you get better gear and can actually fight off enemies without having to tickle enemies until they die or trap yourself in boxes. The problem I have with it is the amount of the terraria community that bastardizes you for playing the game how you want if you want to change these features for yourself. If you say anywhere that you use any mods that speed up progression cause you have a life/job, you get made fun of. I think this mostly started from the youtuber ilikecheese's "ruining terraria with too many qol mods" video as patient zero.
to be honest, i have an exactly opposite opinion – I think the early game is the most interesting and enjoyable part of Terraria. The most boring part for me is almost all entirety of Hardmode, because the game gets too focused on fighting mobs with bosses and a lot of grinding. That's why I pretty often drop my playthroughs after killing Wall of Flesh
I have recently tried to play Terrarria – after several tries over the years. I have like 20 hours in, and maybe 6 in my last adventure.
Managed to get Slime king and Very scary angry Flying Eye, also found Ram? in snow but that boss was too strong. Also found Bee Qeen by accident – I have failed 🙁 Early game is fantastic, the pase is nicely relaxing for me as a new player. The music synchronize with location and it is suprisingly imersive.
Earky enemeis are not boring – they are just scary to fight with. (I did set classic difficulty, compare to hard it is much much better for me)
TLDR: as someone who is playing games for 25 years. I noticed that when we get good in the games and we know what to do in them – we get lured into neediness of having best stuff fast as possible and forget about enjoying jorney of getting there. Try to stop with meta gaming and go with flow..
I like what all the stages of the game offer in terms of progression: Pre-hardmode offers exploration and discovery and Hardmode offers power and convenience in the form of items and accessories.
I'm right now playing a Calamity world and I'm almost 10 hours in and I've only beaten King Slime and The Eye of Cthulhu. I like playing at a slower pace because I enjoy taking my time theorycrafting my progression path (recipe browser is a godsent for this, just filter by the type of item you want and then filter that by rarity) and building my early towns to get pylons and also working towards fishing rewards like the Botomless Water Bucket or getting to the Shimmer to get the one time only buffs and de-crafting options to reroll some item prefixes if I want to min-max pre-Goblin.
A fishing tip: you can fish more than one of the quest fish by catching one and then storage it in the piggy bank. You can keep getting that same fish over and over as long as you don't have one in your inventory. That way, you can complete some quest in an instant if the Angler request a fish you have previously pre-farmed.
In hardmode another type of game opens for me in the form of a more combat-oriented approach, but I also keep a slower pace like Pre-hardmode, taking my time obtaining miscellaneous items and accessories to help with my buildings. And the exploration aspect didn't vanish for me as I quite like grinding (I'm a PoE player, don't judge) and Hardmode revitalise a lot of areas with new enemies and drops, and I get the overwhelming impulse to farm them and make arenas or farming spots. Also like how in Calamity, for example, some bosses have rarer drops so I enjoy farming for them, even if they don't directly help my class choice. Magic Storage comes in handy for my hoarding nature.
All in all a really good video because you actually did share your opinion in a balanced manner, weighing both (in your eyes) positive and negative aspects of the early game against eachother. While I do agree with your positives, I mostly disagree with the negatives and I would even go as far as to say that the early game is one of the best parts of the game, even though the mid and late game are really close behind it.
The "slog" of the early game isn't as much of a slog as it is a necessary first step of character progression in a brand new world. You indirectly confirmed this notion by highlighting the joy of finding your first hermes boots in a chest. I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head there because I believe everyone feels the same about that. However, imagine that the early game would be much more fast paced than it is right now. For instance, imagine you'd be able to travel much faster right from the start. Finding hermes boots in that scenario would be much less impactful because why get excited over movement speed increases if you are already pretty damn fast? That's what I meant by saying the "slog" is a necessary first step: you need to be slow in order to progressively become faster and feel a sense of character progression. In my opinion, that's the core aspect of Terraria, at least for me it is: character progression. Not exploration, not bosses, not even building, but the character progression, because it's done sooo well in this game. Why is it done well? Because upgrades really do feel like upgrades. And for that to be the case there has to be a point in the game, which is obviously the beginning, at which you are at the bottom of the food chain so to speak, slowly working your way up to the top. And this applies not just to movement speed but to mining speed, damage, defense, mobility etc. as well. It sucks that the game is hard and slow at the start, but that's what makes you feel all the more rewarded when you do get your upgrades.
Also, venturing into the jungle early on, like you said, isn't a necessity but an option for players that like high risk, high reward gameplay. That's also why I like the possibility of being able to do duke fishron as soon as you enter hardmode. While he's considered to be fought after having defeated the mechanical bosses, he presents himself as yet another high risk, high reward challenge for players skilled enough to tackle him that early. Getting back to the original discussion, I'm saying this because the game has multiple of these more difficult paths for you to choose if you want to do them. It being hard isn't bad because you aren't required to do it that way. You are free to play the game however you like, but no matter how you play it, the core idea of going from weak to strong in every aspect will always be essential in my opinion.
I love early game, makes end game more satisfying because you're quite literally the strongest being in the world. I would actually try to make hardmode more explore heavy by making the corrupt biome spread less faster (or better ways of dealing with it), because hardmode gets more "boss heavy" simply because you're on a time crunch. I would rather explore, try different events and try to grind for certain weapons etc.
Early game is meant to help brand new players ease into the experience from absolutely no established skill at all. If they make it too hard and/or complicated, a lot of newbies will refund the game and never look back.
I love Terraria because it can appeal to many people despite being pretty simple. Like for me I enjoy exploring and building in prehardmode, and in hardmode my building gets leveled up due to the new materials I can use, not to mention wiring, paints, etc. There's also the fun events and bosses you can do to keep yourself occupied and stocked up on momey to buy things.
For me, the beginning of each playthrough is arguably the best part of the game. It has a unique magical feeling when we are mining our first ores, finding the first treasure chest, picking up our first fallen star, building our first shelters, etc. It fills me with wonder and the thoughts of all the possibilities.

We just need recipies for some of the accessories like hermes boots and cloud in a bottle
early game > mid game > end game
I enjoy the early game more than the very late game.
Is it boring? Absolutely.
But that's GOOD.

Haven't watched the video yet but honestly, I find myself enjoying the earlygame of terraria the most, while being very bored with the lategame.
Prehardmode is designed in a lovely way.

Idk man, I like everything about the game.
