The Origin of the Stardew Valley Fishing Minigame

We now know the origin of Stardy Valley’s controversial fishing miniame. PC Gamer recently did an in-depth interview with Concerned Ape where they asked him about Stardy Valley’s fishing miniame during which he explains how he’s tried to make the miniame easier for beginners in updates. He then mentions that the inspiration for it came from Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, specifically the Rocket Barrel stages where you have to balance your height by pressing the A button to go upwards. Taking the mechanic from such a difficult game definitely explains why people get so frustrated with

Finally you have something to blame.

  1. I personally think it’s a great mini. Game as so many fishing games I’ve played don’t show you have far your into catching the fish and have to mash the a button randomly hoping for the best

  2. Looks like that's also where he came up with the mechanic for Junimo Kart as well. I suck at that just as badly as I suck at the fishing minigame.

  3. The Rocket Barrel was in Donkey Kong Country Returns as well, but either way- it's cool he cited such a great series of games as inspiration
