i never use the vile thorn or nettle burst, but i do often use the vile shard as soon as i can. it's a very nice early hardmode powerup, which is great considering early hardmode is a crazy huge difficulty spike
I used to use vule torn and other its archetypes mainly for hitting enemies through walls. Thought i play only calamity and choose brain
I'll offer my two cents on why no-one uses these weapons:
These weapons are good in the niche they occupy – they deal splash and damage enemies through blocks. They are not good for bosses. Vilethorn might be the most competitive out of the three, but even that is outclassed by options like demon scythe and thunder zapper in its own class. Crystal vile shard is outclassed by spirit lamp, crystal serpent, and sky fracture for anything but the destroyer. Meteor staff is a lower-effort option that does better for destroyer. Nettle is, well, nettle.
These weapons offer utility. However, if blocks stand between you and an enemy you might as well ignore the enemy altogether, or use weapon that does do good against bosses instead for a tiny inconvenience. They don't matter enough for you to go out of your way to get them.
