Does Terraria’s Snow Biome Need More Content?
So, a couple weeks ago, I made a video discussing whether or not the desert biome in Terraria lacks content. And I got a few comments just like this, saying that the snow/ ice biome has the same problem. But does the snow biome in Terraria actually lack content or not? Let’s get started by talking about the overworld, which is the true snow biome. I honestly think there is some valuable gear you can obtain here. The frost staff and icicle are both very good early hard mode weapons, and they can often be collected without even grinding for a long time. In terms of DPS, neither of these weapons are game-changing, but for how easy they are to get, they can definitely be worth it in a casual playthrough. The snow biome also has its very own boss fight, Deerclops. On paper, it really would sound like a unique boss fight would give the snow biome an edge against a lot of other biomes and give it a lot of valuable gear. But in reality, Deerclops is a pretty worthless boss fight. It’s a great novelty, and I’m sure Don’t Starve Together fans are very happy that it’s in the game. With that being said, Deerclops doesn’t actually drop a lot of great stuff. The Ibone is pretty good. It’s basically a portable piggy bank, which can be pretty useful at times, but there literally isn’t anything else dropped by Deerclops that I would even consider using. That’s not even mentioning that the gameplay for the fight is pretty bad. So, while it is still notable that the snow biome has its own boss fight, it doesn’t actually result in a lot of meaningful content. There’s still a lot to talk about, though, because the underground, aka the ice biome, is also said to not have enough content. I try to see both sides on stuff like this, but if we’re being completely real, it’s sort of insane to say that the ice biome doesn’t have enough stuff. It has great early game weapons like the ice boomerang, ice skates, and snowball cannon. And the ice biome also has great accessories like the blizzard in a bottle, flurry boots, and ice mirror. Fling spur is used to craft the fling staff as well, which is super useful in the early game if you’re using summoner. It has pretty decent hard mode content, too. The frost bar is basically just an upgraded ice blade, making quick work of most enemies in the overworld and even working against the mech bosses. And the ice bow can be surprisingly decent when used in the right hands. This biome also has its own unique biome key, the frozen key, although it only gives you access to the frost hydra staff, which is pretty underwhelming, so that doesn’t really help this biome’s case. The ice biome is ultimately a surprisingly great area with really good loot throughout most of the game. It’s an extremely easy biome to navigate as well with a few dangerous enemies, so it’s very accessible. You don’t need to have the best loot or survivability to be able to explore the ice biome in the early game. It’s much safer than the underground jungle and desert while having pretty similar gear. I think the biggest flaw with the ice biome and the snow biome is really that most enemies aren’t very special. There are a couple of standouts like the ice golem and flinxes, but most monsters in this area are glorified reskins of other enemies. Ice bats are just another bat variant. Ice slimes are nothing special. Ice tortoises are just jungle tortoises but less useful since they don’t drop actual shells and the ice mimic is nothing unique either. I think that the real reason people are very underwhelmed by this biome is simply because the enemies don’t stand out, not because there’s an actual lack of content. If I were to make any changes to this biome, I would add more unique enemies to spice things up. But ultimately, I don’t think the snow biome needs that many changes at all. It has a lot of really good loot, especially for the early game. So, while it isn’t the most content dense biome at all, it still has more than enough stuff. What do you think about the snow biome? Do you think it lacks content or is it fine as it is? Make sure to leave what you think in the comments. If you enjoy Terraria discussions like this, make sure to subscribe because we are very close to 3K and we’re trying to hit it by the end of May. All right. Bye-bye.
Does Terraria’s snow biome need more content? Let’s talk about it.

Small correction. At 1:33 I meant the Ice Blade, not Ice Skates.
I just want an underground ocean biome
I think all biomes needs more content in general except jungle, jungle its by far the best biome.
I sometimes wish that terraria didn't focus so much on the jungle for hardmode. While the jungle has life fruits, plantera, and golem, the snow biome has… nothing really worth it in hardmode. I like the snow biome for what it is and I don't think it should get jungle treatment, but if anything you could discuss if the jungle has too much in it.
p.s. having the lunatic cultist be in the dungeon is pretty cool game design 😀
No, I don't really think so. While it is a massive biome, I don't particularly think it needs to be super content-packed. I think it is fine as is, as a way to spice up the aesthetics and exploring aspect of the early game – a sort of "alternate forest/underground".
I have not seen the video but yes, it needs more content
the only thing i can think of that makes exploring the snow biome worthwhile is the blizzard bottle and ice skates. all other exclusive loot is either pretty useless or ice-themed variants of loot you can get anywhere else in the underground
Well executed biomes: Forest, Evil, Jungle, Hallowed, Dungeon
There are no complains about these biomes, I visit them both in pre-Hardmode and Hardmode and it does not feel monotone to be in them.
Biomes that need more: Ocean, Desert, Snow, Space, Underworld
I love those biomes, but at the same time I go there few times and never touch them anymore, because the biome offers not enough relevancy.
– 1.4 did overhaul the Ocean to feel much more lifely, but at the same time it really seems like there is much more potential, unique enemies or simply structure of ruins.
– I really underrate the Desert, but I am aware it is a slightly worse Snow Biome. The only time I go there is to get statues and afterwards only come for a specific weapon. Needs an appropriate boss, desirably early-Harmode.
– I love the Snow Biome, but I rarely see a reason to return once I explored it pre-Hardmode and Hardmode. I got the stuff it offers and have no point to go back. It could potentially offer more by having more unique enemies with unique acessories.
– Space similar to Ocean has a lot of potential and I think everyone would love to be able to explore and find like asteroids with like hardmode ores for example. Perhaps after entering Hardmode you are able to head higher and mine Hardmode ores, which would be a nice twist including cosmic enemies and also giving the Martian Probe a proper place to spawn in.
– Underworld is really, once you defeat Wall of Flesh you don't have a reason to dive down anymore. The only relevant Hardmode content are Red Demons after defeating a mech boss. For pre-Hardmode the Underworld feels like one of the best biomes, after Hardmode it's possibly the most forgettable place due to it's barely any content in Hardmode. Preferably throw in more Hardmode enemies exclusive for Underworld with different weapons and I'd be a valid biome.
Lacking Biomes: Mushroom
Possibly the most disappointing biome is the Mushroom one. Every time I make a surface Mushroom Biome I always think how cool it looks, with the dark background and glowing blue lights. Yet that is what the biome really offers, pure visual. The Truffle NPC exists, but comparing to all biomes they have more than 1 NPC, so that does not count.
There are 5 Hardmode enemies, which 3 of them spawn regardless due to them spawning on the surface. Most Biome unique weapons are sold by the Truffle.
Aside from Glowing Mushrooms, the only ever reason you'd go to the Mushroom Biome is for the Shroomerang for the Trimarang. The content excluding the npc is very underwhelming with nearly all reskin enemies and actually no interesting gameplay mechanic. I'd be interesting if I'd be possibly to implement a boss, but the priority should lie out, to make it as viable as the Space Biome. Just 1 unique enemy, that grants a useful material or item would be enough to make it worth.
They both lack stuff, but the desert has it worse
The Frost Hydra Staff is good for Tier 3 OOA with max sentries placed down before the fight starts
W Video
the snow biome need unique enemies, hardmode content, unique generation, and a better boss. deerclops sucks as a fight, and tries to force you to use dst2's kind of fighting style, but doesn't do to well.
The desert could use a boss fight like a queen antilon or something
desert boss desert boss desert boss 🙏
Jungle has to many content in contrast of any other biome. I often find myself 80% of time just in the jungle when i reach hardmode. The jungle has Golen, Plantera, Life fruit and Chlorophyte ore its just to much of a different between biomes
snow biome and ocean and Desert and the Glowing Mushroom biome
Ok, if the ice biome had something like a special ore or something to mine for (just like fossils for desert and chlorphyte for jungle), it would be more interesting, and the stuff u find in chest isn't too special either, the ice sword is just a glorified enchanted sword, the ice mirror is a reskin of the magic mirror, the flurry boots are also just a reskin, the blizzard in a bottle is just a worse sandstorm in a bottle, and the ice boomerang is also just a glorified enchanted boomerang, the only real chest items that are unique are the snowball cannon and the ice skates. I think something that can fix this issue is by adding like a pre hard mode event that has special ice themed drops that upgrades in hardmode
I think there could be a boss in snow after wof what drops some good items and materials, also starts a threat that makes snowstorms sometimes that raises snow enemies, just like slimerain. Also it spawns a biome in hell that slowly freezes it, spreads like the corruption and crimson. It goes on until you defeat some kind of icelord boss there. After defeating, the icehell starts warming up back slowly. But never completely dissapears and there might be some kind of icecore that is an unbreacable object until defeating the moonlord. After that you can break it up and gives you some materials that you can use for crafting items.
I mean I just came up with this in like 5 minutes, I can’t imagine terraria creators don’t have inspirations any more lol
1 John 4:8 KJV
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
God sent his only son, Jesus, into the world, to die on the cross for our sins, and Jesus died on the cross fo our sins, and rose three days later after his crucifixion, and we must believe in our hearts that Jesus did that! God is a loving God, he isn’t all loving, (Psalms 5:5), but he is loving, and we have to have trust and faith in God, repent of our sins and turn away from sins, believe the gospel, confess pur sins, forgive people, worship God and Jesus, and we do have to accept God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit into our lives. God is holy, he hates sin. sinning is a very bad thing to do, but, God is good, God is holy, have a blessed day! 😀
i just really want a blizzard theme, it feels pretty weird hearing normal snow music when that happens (especially since sandstorm has its own music)
hopefully that's coming in 1.4.5
I agree with this video mostly, but I think it lacks content because it often involves digging through ice and snow for long-ish periods, and the digging itself isn't as great as in the desert, or base cave biomes. Btw, nice video
