Terraria: Pre Hardmode Progression Guide | Bosses and Invasions

Terraria has a ton of content, and if you’re feeling lost, you are not alone with this. In this three heart progression guide, we will break down exactly when to tackle bosses and invasions. Additionally, how to summon them and some little tricks down the road. So, let’s start our journey. In order to tackle bosses, farming some basics should be the very first on our list. I recommend getting at least 200 or even 400 life to start. We can achieve this by farming hard crystals, which can be found randomly underground. Meanwhile, you should focus on farming potions. The iron skin potion for eight additional armor, the life regeneration potion, and the swiftness potions are easily accessible and make the first bosses much easier. I also recommend to get the her boots as soon as possible for more mobility. And once we have taken care about the basics like building a base and an arena, it’s time for mandatory and optional bosses and events. To start easy and simple, we start with King Slime first. For him to spawn, we have two options. either wait for the slime rain and kill 150 slimes for him to spawn naturally. Or if we are unlucky and no slime rain will show up, we can craft the slime crown to summon him. It just needs 20 gel and a gold or platinum crown to craft the summoning item at the crimson or demon alter which are commonly found underground in evil biomes. King Slime is even for newcomer the easiest fight in learning his movement pattern is fairly simple. Once King Slime is toasted, it’s time for one of Terraria’s most iconic bosses, the Eye of Kulu. The eye of Pulu can be summoned with an suspiciousl looking eye that we can craft with six lands at crimson or demon altar. However, the chances are high we already found one while farming for hard crystals or other stuff underground. Here is fairly easy with just platinum or gold armor, Hermus boots, and an iron skin potion. Eventually, make sure to have a hook as from kin slime or crafted wood camps. The movement pattern in the first phase is plain simple. However, once he enrages at exactly 50% life, he transforms and becomes a bit faster, especially on expert or master mode. The less life he has, the faster he becomes. So keep an eye on his life to know when he starts transforming. And this is all about the eye of Kitulu. And with this, we move on to either the brain of Kitulu or the eater of worlds in crimson or corruption, respectively. Both of them can be summoned by blowing up the red or purple orbs we find underground in the evil biomes with explosives. And we don’t need to worry if we die here because there’s usually enough of them for multiple tries. Alternatively, you can also craft the summoning items of vertebra and vicious powder for the brain. And for the eater, we need rotten chunks and wild powder. The items drop from mobs and evil biomes. And the powder can be crafted with evil trooms or boo from the dryad at blood moon. Now you have options. With some gear from the eye of Kulu, the goblin army and blood moon will become much easier. We can now either wait for the blood moon or goblin army or craft a goblin battle standard to summon the goblin invasion manually. It needs five of any wood and tetred cloth which you can get from goblin scouts. Scouts are easier to find the closer we are to the edges of the map. The goblin invasion is completely optional, but I recommend to finish it at least once because it enables the greedy goblin tinkerer to spawn underground where we have the chance to find him. Now, the blood moon, on the other hand, is totally reliant on randomness to rise, or at least the very first blood moon. And thus, it’s recommended that you don’t wait for it, but move on with other things until the blood moon eventually shows up. The queen bee is next on our list. The queen bee provides good items for every class and can be summoned in the jungle by destroying a lava, which you can find in most honeycombs. Alternatively, the abomination to summon her manually can be crafted with honey block, stinger, hive, and bottled honey. It’s recommended to clear out some space beforehand because her movement pattern is much harder than previous bosses, but you can also prepare an arena on the jungle surface, place a spawn there, destroy the lava underground, and port back to your jungle arena. This is, in my opinion, a very comfortable way to defeat her. And once the queen bee is done, it’s a good time to move on to deer clubs. I mean, technically, you can do the deer clubs much earlier, but I like to do it after it. The deerops is the newest addition to Terraria’s bosses added in 1.4.3 and will spawn eventually at midnight during a blizzard in the snow biome. However, because this isn’t really consistent and can literally take ages, I strongly recommend to craft a dearing with flings for evil ore and a lens at an altar to summon him manually. He’s dropping some funny gimmicks and the fastest wood X for pre and even early hard mode. After the bosses up to now, you may have found the tavern keep NPC somewhere around the surface level to finish the last remaining event for prehab mode, which is the old one’s army tier one. The old ones army event was added in update 1.3.4 and is triggered by using the eternal crystal stand purchased from the tavenvern keep for just one gold. The eternal crystal itself will become progressively more expensive later and can be placed on the stand to summon the old one’s army. In preheart mode, the most interesting here is the dark mage that drops good items for the summoner class, especially if we plan to play a summoner sentry mix setup. It’s a fun little event where we have to defend the eternal crystal in the middle and new tiers will be unlocked after the mechanical bosses and the golem in heart mode have been defeated. The old man known as skeleton is the next and almost the last boss in preheart mode. Skeleton is the only boss that can’t be summoned manually with an item. You need to wait for the night to come. And once it’s midnight, you can talk to the old man at the dungeon and click on curse to spawn. But be aware, skeleton will appear right after it, and we may take one or two hits immediately. He can be tricky at times and may appear a bit overwhelming, but after all, it’s really just simple movement pattern to learn here and eventually focus on the hands first. If we fail to defeat Skeletor, he will respawn after a while, so don’t worry. Now, before we move into the underworld, also known as hell, I strongly recommend to grind the dungeon first, which we now can enter. That is for the mechanic, the alchemy and bewitching table and golden chest, which we all find in the dungeon. But then it’s time to leave the preheard mode behind us by defeating the wall of flesh. The wall of flesh is by far the hardest boss in preheard mode, which kind of makes sense being the last boss. And actually, many player don’t know that the wall of flesh is the only boss necessary in prehealth mode. Literally every other boss, whether the eye of Kuru or the evil biome bosses, whatever, it is really all optional. Technically, you can move to the wall of flesh immediately and ignore everything else. Just as a little side note, however, usually building a straight line with blocks or platforms through hell is the most common strategy, but you can also use a water walk and an obsidian perch to simply use the lava as your arena. We can summon her Asa with voodoo dolls dropped by IMS by throwing some into lava, or just build a home for the guide down here and dip him into lava instead. If you have problems defeating the wall of flesh somehow, you can grind the queen bee multiple times for bee nates. Be nates still do a wonderful job on the wall of flesh and can be used with other weapons additionally. And now where the wall of flesh is turned into the wall of trash, we successfully entered hard mode and the map will transform immediately.
