What’s the Future of Stardew Valley?
um we just got 1.6 Don’t you think it’s a little greedy to already be demanding another update Funny enough I’m not the one that started this conversation I know you’re probably sick of hearing about it but in that PC gamer interview Mr Concerned mentioned that while he is focusing on Haunted Chocolier for the time being Stardw Valley tends to keep calling him back So a 1.7 isn’t out of the picture At this point though what could we even expect Well I have a couple of ideas before that though If we look back at 1.6 overall I think I would call it a balancing update more than anything So like the mastery system made a lot of the less profitable skills more profitable There’s books that made things like selling artifacts more lucrative And then a lot of things like the order you unlock crafting recipes were shuffled around just to make them more usable So then looking forward to 1.7 I think it could be more of a quality of life type update focused on giving the player more options to play around with to tailor the experience for them So here’s my ideas First this is one that I’m kind of borrowing from Fields of Mistria if you’ve heard of that It’s very similar to Stardy Valley but it’s doing a couple of things different And one of those things is that it has a daylength slider in the options where if you feel like your days are too short you can lengthen them out by a few minutes And while I never have an issue with the days ending I know there’s a ton of people who are just frustrated when they’re in the middle of something and their days coming to a close Me on the other hand I’m the complete opposite So I have another suggestion for people like me You know that system that a couple of openw world games have whenever you sit down or lay in bed and then it gives you an option to skip so many hours I’d like to see that come into Stardy Valley If you sit on a chair or maybe you know get in bed you have the option to skip some amount of time Now the hard part here is figuring out a way to do it without any jankiness because we can kind of simulate how this would work with CJB cheats menu And what NPCs will do when you skip a couple of hours is they’ll start hitting every point on their schedule walk to it move immediately on to the next until they finally catch up with time which can be a little weird But then again I don’t know if there’s another way that you could even do it And my main reason for wanting to add this is that there’s just so many times where I’m like “Okay today I need to give out gifts but you know no one comes out until 9:00 a.m so I have to stand around doing something for 3 hours.” Or maybe I want to get into the Adventures Guild and it doesn’t open up until 2:00 p.m And again it’s just another situation where I’m just sitting there waiting for it to open And in a similar vein I have another suggestion We have the option to skip days And yes I know this is a very like speedrun and challenge runoriented edition but hear me out If someone wants to sleep through multiple days they can do it anyway It just takes some time They have to keep going into bed and mashing the Y button to sleep over and over again Perhaps there’s a special order from Robin where you have to collect 100 hardwood and your prize at the end of it is the deluxe bed Currently that bed doesn’t do anything What if that bed allowed you to sleep through multiple days So you do have to work for it but then you get that option At the very least you’d have to play up to fall when the special orders unlock just playing normally So the option being there isn’t going to completely destroy someone’s first experience with the game And again this is something that we can actually simulate in CJB cheats menu You can see what happens when you skip a bunch of days And doing that we can see that there’s some things that would actually need to be adjusted For one like your crops don’t grow in any time that you’ve skipped your machines don’t work for any time you’ve skipped That would have to be fixed And again it’s one of those things I don’t I haven’t worked on the game I don’t know if that’s possible to adjust but if it’s something that can be fixed I would absolutely love that addition Here’s a very late game one and I don’t know how many people it would help but it would help me Uh I want an option on the golden clock to be able to prevent trees from spreading Currently the two things it does is stop debris from spreading and your fences from decaying And what that really means is that trees are the one and only thing that can take control of your farm I use my old farms a lot for getting footage for various videos and shorts and stuff And it’s not rare that I have to sleep through to a certain season or a certain day to get specific footage And while I do that the trees are just creeped up on my entire farm And eventually I have to do like a purge and bomb them all down But it it’s a neverending chore And I you know this could just be me That’s a very specific situation that not a lot of people probably have But I think it makes sense right This next one since I’ve been playing with mods I’ I’ve had access to a lot of quality of life things but I think there’s only one thing that I really miss whenever I go back to vanilla and it’s this button right here It automatically sorts all of my items to the appropriate chest within a certain radius of me And man does it feel good to come back from the skull caverns or the mines like it’s 1:30 in the morning and I just walk on by my chests menu click the button and then go to sleep It’s just such an absolute game changer More so than having like UI info suite stuff Nothing nothing else even comes close to comparing to that little button I need it and console players need to experience it So moving on from mechanics that I want added let’s talk about our characters in the game right now There’s another part of the PC gamer interview where he talks about how there’s a lot of kind of plot lines for individual NPCs in the town that aren’t closed yet and maybe he’ll go back and close some of them off Here’s my thing For almost every single one of those situations I don’t want it to be tied up neatly with a bow I love the open-ended nature of it Will Lewis and Marne figure out their relationship issues What’s the deal with Abigail’s hair Will the shadow people and dwarves ever get along We don’t know And you know we don’t have to know That’s what keeps it interesting And it’s weird because I don’t think for any other game or like piece of media an unfinished character arc would be you know good But for some reason it just works here Now I say that but I do think there’s two specific cases that could have a little add-on The first I we’ve discussed this before It’s shame I think a lot of people take the fact that beer is still a loved item for him as oh he didn’t go sober He’s still struggling with it because he loves it whenever we give him alcohol I don’t know if that’s even intended to be the case I feel like it’s more we couldn’t figure out how to make it not a loved item for him anymore And again that may be the case but if we could just swap beer with like Jojacola not that Jojacola is going to be the bastion of health items you know but it’s better than beer and it gives the player a little reward cuz it’s a cheaper item to buy for him than beer But yeah that’s a discussion that’s been had for forever Let’s move on to Clint See what I think Clint needs is just one more cut scene And this is after he realizes you know Emily isn’t into him the way he’s into her So all that happens is he’s like “Hey farmer I’m headed into Zuzu City for a date That’s it.” I think just that says so much And you know how like sometimes after a cut scene a character will have a unique line of dialogue pertaining back to that cut scene He could just be like “Hey date went well Going back for a second one next week.” And that’s it That’s all you hear about it Does it keep going Does it work out We’ll never know But here’s what you have to do though He doesn’t stop going to the saloon to hang out with Emily He has to keep going because you don’t want it to you know Emily is his friend So you know if he stops seeing her completely you know that’s mean But hold on Ooh Ooh Then again that could add a little bit of stank to that conclusion though right Clean up one conflict open up another and then maybe Emily at some point is like “Hey I think Clint’s been avoiding me Did I say something?” Ooh Ooh another conflict Save it print it put it in the game And to finish this off here I thought I’d rapid fire a couple of smaller ideas that you know don’t need explanation It’s just oh they’re in First a notification when you place something in a spot that a villager walks through and would be destroyed An upgrade to the silo that holds more hay Maybe you don’t have enough space for multiple silos It’d be nice More horse designs You know you get to choose between your dog and your cat and your even your turtle design Why not horses too I do think you should be able to stack full durability tackle now that we have the advanced aridium rod Bringing multiple types of tackle can take up a lot of inventory space Just a little bit of quality of life there And then one final one that I’m not fully convinced on and that’s an extra backpack upgrade to get a fourth slot of inventory Now as the game gets bigger more items are added inventory management becomes a lot more difficult and that extra line of inventory could be huge But here’s my worry If you add a fourth line of inventory it’s just going to be that much more annoying You come home from the end of the day and you have to sort four lines of inventory into your chest To me that feels like it would be really overwhelming And I think it can only really be done if you add that button I was talking about earlier where everything auto sorts Anyway for now that’s all I got While I did focus on like the quality of life stuff like I said I do think it’s a given that you know there’s a new crop or a new fruit tree and stuff like that And as far as that goes you know there’s infinite possibilities I don’t think I need to specifically be like “Oh I really hope there’s zucchinis.” They can just add it But that’ll do it for me Please let me know if there’s any ideas you’ve had especially if it’s quality of life related But just if you really want zucchinis you know hell yeah Power to you Thanks for watching See you in the next one And good night [Music]
Before you ask, yes, I would like to see Haunted Chocolatier before any more Stardew Valley updates, BUUUUT it’s likely we’ll see something in the future. Here’s just a couple of the ideas that I’ve had while playing through multiple files!

for the fourth inventory row, i think an easy way to take care of the hassle of sorting your chests (beyond the aforementioned and blessed Quick Stack) would be to be able to, like choosing a chest color, also optionally choose a Chest Tag that only accepts items that share that Tag. as an example, having a chest that has its Tag set to Fish means it can only contain Fish until you turn off the Tag and it can contain anything once again
the big distinction here from simply having a blue chest for your fish is that, when a Tag is active and you enter the inventory screen, it crosses or greys out all items that can't go in the chest while the Tag is active, so you can visually tell at a quick glance everything that's meant to go in there
that being said, if you asked me whether i wanted this or a Quick Stack button, i'd still take Quick Stack lol
I like that Shane still likes beer. He's clearly isolated and depressed which leads him to drink too much. Not everyone with alcohol problems needs to be sober. I would however love if his schedule changed after certain arc progressions. Maybe he goes to the saloon fewer nights and chats with e.g. Emily when he goes. Maybe other nights he plays ball with Jas.
being able to search if you have a certain item in a chest so you dont have to go past all your chests for the hope you might have one
I think variable day length as an option would be very nice. I usually find myself installing CJB cheats on the first of every month just to do a large chunk of management on the farm (reorganizing crops around all the new sprinklers I got, clearing the plots and deciding how to plant the new crops, setting up another section of a tree farm, etc) and then quitting the game the next day to uninstall it.
Another idea I'd like to steal from another game (and hey, we already have a Terraria reference in the game already) would be the flying piggy bank, probably as a trinket. That, or maybe allowing you to pick up a Junimo Chest without having to empty the entire stash.
One last thing: giving clothes and hats (small) stat bonuses. For casual players that don't care about fashion, nothing really changes because the game is already well balanced. Min-maxers would now get a reason to invest in clothing more heavily. And at the end of the day, it's a small boost for a cosplayer who has a ton of outfits to choose the most fitting one for every situation.
After Clint's whole storyline with Emily he should become romanceable
For skipping time/days there is a randomizer mod for stardew which allows for multisleep, so you choose the amount of days to sleep through and the golden clock has a time skipping function, so that's definetely possible
Crops and machines still work normally during multisleep, npc schedules do get a bit janky like you demonstrated
I like the idea of turning off tree spreading. I end up not planting trees that can spread to keep the carefully laid out aesthetic of my farm.
Absolutely agree with Clint needing something more to wrap up his storyline. The way he ends is just so. Sad. Its not endearing, its not satisfying, its not even the fun kind of complex sad, its just pitiful.
Its out there, but the "nice guy" type of person he is makes for a great place to really change his character into something interesting. I always imagined him needing more confidence and finding it in some unusual fashion. Trying something he didn't expect. Expected even less to like it. Expected even further less to make him feel better about himself when he's hated himself for so long. (I'm talking about some form of queer storyline, trans or gay I just think he has an eggshell and its ready to crack).
Okay why isn't anyone talking about the beginning? It gave me a good laugh đ
The Future of Stardew Valley is STOP NO ERIC DUDE GO DO HAUNTED CHOCOLATIER PLEASE.
I really wish Jojaâs prices were actually lower than Pierreâs. Joja is supposed to be a big threat, but in actual gameplay thereâs no reason to go there or get the membership.
đââī¸đ love getting a new sal vid when the migraine is migraine-ing… comforting and soothing
I would love automation. Maybe it could involve a Maru quest where you unlock a special chest that can draw from/put things into nearby chests and equipment
I know it's silly but i miss living off the land after year 2. If i knew how to make mods i would put in a few more years worth of tips.
Longer days would be game breaking
I don't think 1.7 would be focused on QoL stuff. Mainly because 1.6 was focused on streamlining and easing the process of mod creation. Most of the QoL things you talked about are already done or can be done with mods.
If anything, 1.7 could bring more events for each characters, like you presented with Shane and Clint, and maybe a new map, location, dungeon…
Then again… if anything can be added with mods, the simplest thing to do with 1.7 would be to add those mods directly into vanilla…
Well, I don't have a modicrum of answer either, so we'll see!
I would want the farm type options to be full the empty spaces are out of place for me, also would want the last farm to be added to be like the celebration seed in terraria in that the world has a different color palette and things are easier to find and do. That last one is never happening but a guy can dream.
I would LOVE to see longer days on multiplayer to make up for time not pausing when the player is in a menu or shop.
The trees are an issue with me too.
Also, THAT CHEST SORT FUNCTION IN VANILLA?!? THAT WAS A THING??? bring it back!!!!!
A couple of things i would like to see added is:
zuzu city. Id love to explore a new area that is vastly different then stardewvalleys nature and whimsical feel. Being able to find new clothing furniture and new npcs. And the option to bring someone to the city or back to stardewvalley.
new hairstyles and makeup color options instead of just red and pink lips.
lastly a catalogue to get furniture that the npcs have. i love Haleyâs vanity & emilys sunset painting & thier little heart decals. I dont like how the only way to access them is by marrying one of them & i cant have both rooms đ
I would love NPC map locations in vanilla Stardew.
I'd like a rework of some characters, namely Clint, Lewis, Pierre, Demetrisu, but also the other less-liked or neglected townspeople. Just something that the writing is up to snuff.
Also, particularly for Linus, I'd like to see him getting a bit cleared up, since ATM, he is a weird mixture of a stoic/cynic that practices poverty by choice and a victim of circumstances that can't help himself.
Iâll just wait and see what will happen for now Iâll patiently wait for haunted chocolatier and then Stardew Valley 1.7 though Iâm a switch player much like how Iâm waiting for a sun kissed city
I think it'd be neat to incorporate Haunted into Stardew Valley. Like a way you can ship items from your Stardew valley farm to your haunted Chocolatier character
Thank you for still making Stardew Valley content!!!!
I want my kids to grow up to the age of Jas, Leo and Vincent. Than they can go to the playground an learn in the museum with Penny and just do kids-stuff, I guess.
– Make the hoppers push and pull items from machines (like the automation mod)
– Some characters would give you a quest once youâve reached full hearts with them. You help Maru build a machine that can be useful to you. Willy helps you build a crab pot upgrade. Lewis helps you expand the smaller shipping bins. Sebastian helps you fix up a tractor etc.
I'd like to see a mailbox system for all the characters where you can drop off journal quest items. There have been many times that I've missed a quest reward because I couldn't find someone or I didn't make it to them in time due to bad RNG.
An option in the menu to show what all the buttons do on console, it shows it on the loading screen but it loads too fast for me to really get a good look at it
Instead of a 4th backpack line Iâd just love a slot for each of the tools that donât count against your space. But extrasâlike different swords you pick up in the minesâ do until one is manually slotted in the way clothes/shoes/hats/rings work.
(we just got stardew 1.6) bro its almost been a year and a half now
I think a relativley elegant solution to the timer wait system could be to allow you to "Sleep in" at the start of day, letting you start your day at a later time if you want.
I really want the difference between the Community Center and Joja routes to be fleshed out more. Concerned Ape said Joja was one of last things he added to the game and he wishes he did more to make the two routes different.
Some things I would like to see are actually cheaper products if you buy the Joja membership, Joja seeds that only produce normal quality crops, the town becoming more âJoja-fideâ with stuff like large billboards scattered about, the small businesses in town increasing their prices if you regularly buy from Joja, and the Junimo Hut not being available if you choose the Joja route.
personally i just want a nonbinary option for the farmer đ
A few things that I would love to see.
1) yes for the tackles stacking – at least those that weren't used at all. They take up so much space! Or at least something like a fishing chest, that would work like the closet for clothing items, but for fishing related things – tackles, baits, rods. This would be a lifesaver!
2) I need cucumbers to be in the game đ I mean, we have tomatoes and we can pickle things – I demand pickled cucumbers! đ¤Ŗ
3) a way to buy stuff in bulk for consoles. It's already done for PC, so please just let us console players have this as well đĸ
4) Kids growing up a little – I don't need them helping around the farm or anything, but I would love for them to start interacting with the villagers. Otherwise, they are just pointless…
