Are YouTube’s Terraria video ideas any good?

YouTube’s “Inspiration” tab is a new feature in
YouTube Studio, where creators can get video idea recommendations from the YouTube AI. The AI
goes over your channel and tries to generate video ideas for your next video – complete with
title, description, hook, outline, and thumbnail. Now, while AI has been pretty good at raising
company stock prices, it’s less good at creating suggestions or content around specific topics –
especially niche ones, like a specific video game. So… based on all the data it has from
my channel and Terraria more broadly, how well can it generate video ideas?
Like, are they usable initially, or can they at least be used as a jumping-off
point or “inspiration” for the creator? Well, if you want the answer now, let’s
just say this is the only video idea I’ll be getting relating to YouTube Inspiration. I can
assure you of that, so, don’t be concerned. Yes, it’s pretty bad… but at the same time
it’s also pretty funny, so let’s dive in. Among the video ideas I saved, the first
video idea it gave me was this one: “Can you beat Terraria with only a single item?” Obviously, this is based off of all
those “Can you beat…” videos that are all so popular on Terratube these days.
Makes sense why the AI would choose this. Other than that, the outline of this is pretty
standard and what you’d expect from an AI, except that this video idea is literally
impossible. Even ignoring feasibility of any kind, you need at least two items to beat
the game: some pickaxe to break the Plantera’s Bulb and a Lihzahrd Power Cell to fight Golem.
I guess looking at the thumbnails it generated, it probably meant beating it with a single weapon
– which is definitely possible – although I’d say it’s a bit of clickbait if you chose to title it
like that with this reduced premise. Maybe the AI is baking in some clickbait, but I dunno.
The next idea I saved is this one: “Is Terraria’s 1.5 update worth the hype?”
This one personally drew my attention for the same reason it probably also drew your attention. Now,
I don’t know if you’ve been following the news, but Terraria 1.5 has not been released or even
announced in any way, shape or being, nor does it seem to be coming out anytime soon. Interestingly,
the AI actually seems to hallucinate about future updates quite a lot. While browsing, I saw
plenty of both 1.4.5 and 1.5 ideas in the mix, even though both of them haven’t come out yet.
Regardless though, a video surrounding the “hype” of a non-existent, unannounced
update is probably not a good video idea. Probably the first idea that actually
made me audibly cackle is this one: “Calamity’s Newest Update: The Fabsol Crisis”.
Now, for those out of the loop, recently, the Calamity Mod’s longtime lead developer
and key figure Fabsol left the development team following allegations. The whole situation
itself is something best covered by others as I am not a news or drama YouTuber, but all you
need to know is that it’s a thing that happened. However, the AI apparently saw this whole
thing and thought: hmmm… this must be a new event in a Calamity Mod update! New game
content! New game content, everyone! Yeah… Reading this, it seems like it interpreted it
to be some pillars-esque style world event, with unique mechanics – such as “Fabsol energy”,
as well as, apparently, challenges. It’s truly amazing how much bullshit the generator can
hallucinate when given a prompt about something. Obviously, a lot of what Inspiration brings to the
table is highly reminiscent of existing content. For example, this video idea – essentially
a pacifist playthrough of the game – has already been done, most popularly by Gungnir.
Meanwhile, this video idea bears a striking resemblance to one of my videos, which also covers
the extreme limits of housing requirements. It also spelt “oppressive” wrong, which I find funny.
Then, there’s this idea, which is basically just a Sock video in its most basic form.
It even nailed the thumbnail style, so, from here we can at least speculate that the
AI has been watching quite a bit of Sockrteez. However, nothing beats this idea, where
Inspiration basically just took this month-old Chippy video and tacked on six characters to
the end. Now, I’m wondering how many creators can even use this idea since a prerequisite for
this is that Redigit has sent you not just one, but two packages, but I digress. I
just think the similarity is funny. Among all the ideas I had saved though – beating
the ridiculous premises and nothing-burger videos, separating itself from the brow-raising
hallucinations and crazy thumbnails – was this video. This is the craziest video
idea I’ve ever seen generated by an actual, professional thing. “Terraria’s Hidden
Lore: The True Story of The Shrimp”. What first raised my attention was the
description: “the humble shrimp in Terraria may seem insignificant, but a deeper look
reveals a connection to the world’s most powerful beings and a story that touches
upon the very fabric of reality.” What? Reading further, it only gets a bit more insane.
“The Humble Shrimp’s Unexpected Origins. Pose the question: Why would such a creature
exist in such an isolated location, and what purpose might it serve?”
“Examine the shrimp’s appearance and its potential link to the ancient Cthulhu mythos.”
“Analyze the shrimp’s “eyes” – are they truly eyes, or something more?”
“Dive into theories surrounding the shrimp’s role in the game lore,
particularly its link to the “Old Ones.”” “IS IT A GOD?”
I mean… cool, cool, but guys, it’s a fucking shrimp. It’s not even an enemy.
You fish it out of the water, where it exists as an item only. Shrimp’s literal only purpose
is to be cooked into a food item that gives a decent but not amazing buff. That’s it. So…
why are we treating it like the Moon Lord now? I have absolutely no clue what kind of crack
the AI smoked to come up with this idea, but whatever it got, I want some of it.
It’s just crazy – I don’t even know anymore. So, yeah, those are some of the video ideas I
got through Inspiration. I’m not really feeling particularly “inspired”, but at least I got one
video idea out of it. Thanks YouTube for adding one more footnote, I guess.

  1. Apologies for the crappy audio this video. My house is undergoing some work right now so I had to use some pretty strong noise supression.

  2. Youtube AND tiktok both keep asking me to make more videos about Calamity Mobile since theyre the only ones that ever get any attention on my page. 😅 Im stuck in Hard Mode because Ive never actually played Calamity all the way through. And the version that works for Tmodloader mobile is old. 1.4.3.2

  3. "Can a single Player Defeat the Moon Lord?" Is a title made by one of those "Game" Journalists that pretty much never touched a game in thier free time…

So, can you do it? Can a single person defeat the Moon Lord?? Yeah. What did you expect from a mainly single player game?
What's more one can do it without the movement keys! And you can even beat the Calamity mod without them too!
Someone even beat the Moon Lord with a lawn mower! That not many people even know can deal damage!

  4. I think the AI confused 1.4.5 with 1.5 which is probably why it's saying that. Or maybe it's thinking of something like "Does terraria need a 1.5 update?"
Regardless, I think if it meant "Is Terraria's 1.4.5 update worth the hype?" would actually be quite an interesting topic.

  5. The fact it saw Wand of Sparking's short video of the shrimp journey and said it was ideal content for everything terraria is absolutely hilarious.

  6. 1:20 you actually don’t need a pickaxe to summon planterra. If chlorophite grows under the bulb with you nearby, planterra will still spawn as if you’re the one who broke it.

  7. Could that "One item" challenge (assuming absolute best possible luck and perfect seed, + ruleset shenanigans) be possible with just lizhard powercell by having a lava trap spawn over top of the plantera bulb? The only problem I could think of is killing skeletron, WoF, and mechs, but if perfectly optimized maybe it'd be possible

  8. "You've probably stepped on thousands of them in Terraria."

Ah yes, the humble shrimp. Famously known for constantly being underfoot whenever you try to walk somewhere.

  9. You completly glossed over the best part of the shrimp lore video, where it explains that the shrimp drops the Shrimpy Truffle that is used to summon the Eye of Cthulhu, thereby linking it to a powerful being.
