Surviving the Arctic in Hardcore Minecraft

This is the Arctic. [Music] It’s one of the most inhospitable places. And in this series, I’m going to be surviving here. This episode, I’m going to try to get out of the cold, do some fishing, and hunt a muskox. Take a look at this. just arctic as far as the eye can see. And I’m already freezing. It’s been like 2 seconds. What’s this? There’s like a cow skeleton there. And this is a like a dead goat. Welcome to my uh new series I’m doing. Surviving the Arctic. I don’t know what I’m going to title it. Might be something like that. I figured I would try out a survival wilderness focused series. No zombies, no infection, no spooky stuff coming to get me. just a man in the Arctic who is accidentally about to fall into some icy water like 2 minutes into this. Anyways, I think I’m going to do this in a series format. So, there’s going to be multiple episodes. It’s going to go as long as people are interested in it. Hey, how’s it going? What do you like? You probably like fish, eh? I’m going to bring you some fish at some point. I got bigger things to figure out right now, though. It’s freezing cold out here. It It is It is bone chillingly cold here in the Arctic. You can see my temperatures dropped. Is that a Okay, I don’t know if there’s a whale down there. Anyways, in this first episode, I got to figure out how I’m going to stay warm. There’s no trees out here. There’s no wood. It’s the We’re north of the tree line. We’re in the Arctic Circle, so there’s no there’s no trees. I do have some stuff to start though. I’ve got this snow suit. Otherwise, I’d probably be dead by this point. Uh, I’ve got a horse head. Don’t know what I’m going to do with that. I got some ribeye steaks cuz let’s let’s just pretend I brought them with me. A mule skin. I’ I genuinely don’t know what I’m going to use that for. Some raw fish, a bandage, and a matchbook. That’s everything I got. And I got to try to survive out here as long as I can. The other thing you’ll notice, and maybe you won’t notice, but days out here in the Arctic are much shorter. I I tried to make it as realistic as possible. So, daytime only lasts I mean, it’s already getting dark and uh when it gets dark, it gets colder. So, I’m just wasting time rambling right now. I got to figure out a way to stay warm and stay alive. And I think that starts by getting lower. And uh yeah, the river’s freezing. So, there’s some caves that are poking out along the river here. And I think maybe if I climb into one of the caves, it might be warmer. And I’m hoping I can follow one of the caves down underground. Where? What is that? It’s the whale. I’m not I can’t fall in the If I fall in the water, I’m going to freeze. I’m going to try to cross here. Anyways, the plan is find a cave, get underground, and then hopefully find a minehaft, and uh look at this right here. And I got to give a huge shout out to Thite for uh making me realize that you can get wood from mine shafts. I’ve wanted to do this Arctic survival thing for a while now, but I didn’t think it was possible to survive without wood. And I’ll tell you right now, a man like me, I am way too stupid to even consider that you could get wood from a mine shaft. Yeah, there there’s no way I would have thought of that. But if I can’t find a mine shaft, I have no idea what I’m going to do. Have you got an idea where I can find wood? Tell me right now. Cuz without it, I’m going to freeze to death out here. Luckily, because I’m trying to make this as realistic as possible. I’m not going to have to really worry about too many threats like zombies or creepers or anything like that. In fact, there should be none of them. This is going to be a bit of a challenge. I’m going to have to find a cave that brings me down low. You can see I’m already getting Yeah, it’s getting dark and I’m getting hungry. Luckily, I have this food. It’s raw, though. So, I really have no way to cook it. There’s fish down there that I could get. You know, in survival shows where they start going, you you need to find shelter right away and water. Well, I do need water. Like, look at my look how thirsty I am right now. So, I’m going to just try to drink some raw glacial water and uh head inside. It’s going to be a long night. What? What mushrooms are these? Porttoella. Favorite food of slimes. Are these edible? They’re edible. Are the ink caps edible? No, they’re not. Okay, I need more porttoella. It’s all ink cap mushrooms. I tried to make this mod pack as realistic as possible, but there’s Look at this. There’s salmon in here. As I’m talking about, I’m trying to make the mod. What is this over here? Those roots. Tangle roots. Okay. What can you do with tangle roots? Wait, wait, wait, wait. I see stuff. Tangle roots. There’s something I can do with them. Wait. Do you have a recipe book? And there’s these fish here. I’m going to try to There we go. I’m going try to fish for the salmon. Don’t swim into You need to get both. You need to get into a spot that I can uh I’m fishing with my raw or bare hands right now. Here we go. Eating some raw fish in a cave. Great start here. So, I tried to make this mod pack as realistic as possible. I I spent a considerable amount of time trying to nail down a theme because I’m I just wanted like a realistic mod pack. What did I just do? What? Raw. Cold shift. Obtained by clicking on stone with flint. I’m so lost right now. There’s stone hammerhead. Large stone can serve as a head of a strong hammer. You’ll find the stone similarly by digging at gravel. What? This cave is no good. I got to find a different cave. Look at this beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Aurora. It’s probably going to be freezing cold out here, but I got to find a different cave. I got to find a cave that leads me deep underground where a mine shaft is so I can get wood that way. I need to make a base, that’s for sure. I need to find a base somewhere that’s warm, and I need to be able to get a fire going. Uh, without those things, I’m not going to last too long. You can see the temperature is dropping when I’m outside at night. And eventually, I want to explore the mountains and uh check. Yeah, I’m freezing. I got to get I got to get back down. The lower I am, the better I am. The temperature seems to be more in my favor. I cannot fall in that water. Telling you right now, night’s going to last a long time. It’s going to be 15 minutes of night and 5 minutes of daytime. Oh. Oh, I just broke my feet trying to climb up this. I’m getting taking some damage here. I don’t know why I use my gravel. Let’s see if this one leads me down. There’s a few other mods that I wanted to try to implement, but they just don’t exist. Can I break this? One of the mods that I wanted to get made was something to do with hunger. I feel like I need to overhaul Minecraft’s hunger system. This is just a dead end here. I tried to make a data pack myself to do it, but it just didn’t just didn’t work at all. Look at this though. It’s really nice. But I really haven’t done anything. It’s been like 10 minutes. I’ve just been walking from cave to cave. But I wanted to do this series because I feel like I’ve been doing so much zombies and horror and infection stuff lately. And uh when I getting too cold to be out here, freezing on. Oh, that looks like a good cave, but it’s in water. The water is the enemy. [Music] Come on. Come on. We got to get This guy’s getting cold. I don’t know if this cave is going to be good. Taken down. I don’t know if I’m going to survive this, to be honest. What am I doing? Trying to p place gravel. I got to make this jump. Oh, there’s water. No, looks like it goes deeper. Oh, it goes deeper. Okay, good. Hey, and some more. What? What type of mushroom is this? More porttoella. Woohoo. I was getting hungry there. Getting real hungry. Eat all these porttoellas. Button mushrooms. Can I eat this? I’m just swallowing mushrooms at this point. I did the Alaska mod pack and the plane crash one and both of those were like survival focused and I really really liked playing those ones. Um, so I wanted to do more of it. I also wanted to do a series cuz I feel like I haven’t done a Minecraft series in there’s diamonds right there. Look at that. There’s not even close to being able to get them. So, I’m just trying not to die here. I’ve got two. Yeah, I’m just taking damage, which is going to make me perpetually more hungry and more thirsty. Look at this. Videos take me a really long time to make, like a a stupid amount of time. And I wanted to do a series so that I could just be a little bit more casual about stuff. I could get viewer feedback. I could uh implement it into month things and just change the series as I go and whatnot. So, I thought this might be a good chance to do something like that. And look at this. There’s got to be a mine shaft around here somewhere. This is a big cave. So, if you have any ideas for this series or anything you want me to do or whatever. What is this? Pale ink cat mushroom. Can’t eat this one. There a red. It’s kind of spooky down here. Right there. Okay. Oh. Okay. mine shaft. Thank goodness. I genuinely thought I was going to have to restart this because I didn’t think I was going to find one of these. Okay, that’s great. That’s wood. Beautiful. Look at this. Look at this. Look at this. Look at this. Look at all this wood here. And there’s cobwebs. Okay, that’s that is a huge find right there. I cuz now I can get a fishing rod. Trying to see if there’s a chest or anything. And I’m hoping Yeah, look at all these cobwebs. I was hoping that there would be a cave uh spider spawner so that I could uh cuz I don’t have to worry about it because it shouldn’t it should not activate. I got the set up so that doesn’t turn on. So, that’s a lot of cobwebs right there. That’s perfect. There’s a decent amount of wood here, too. Enough wood that I should theoretically be able to uh get some sticks and get started here. Yeah, sticks. There we go. There we go. There we go. Oh, look at this. I can actually just get wool with my hands. I thought I had no tree punching on, but I don’t. So, it’s the way it’s going to be. Perfect. So, it turns out I could have used these tangled roots to make sticks and also compost them. But, three of these tangled roots make some sticks. That’s good to know. Make a crafting table and a pickaxe. Just going to get a stone. And just like that, we’re on the board, baby. We are on the board. We are no longer on the board because apparently you can’t make You can’t You can make a wooden pickaxe, but you can’t make a stone pickaxe for some reason. Can I not make stone stuff? You need to make the actual head. Okay, so you get that by a napped rock. Okay, so it turns out in order to get a stone pickaxe, I’m going to need to make a pickaxe head. And I get that by making a napped rock. And to get a napped rock, I need to obtain by clicking while holding rocks in both left and right hands. Obtain by clicking on a stone block with a flint. Okay, so I need to get flint. Remember when I was in a cave just chalk full of flint? And now I’ve got one flint. I made a I made a critical error here. I’m going to need to might need to make a stone shovel and find my way back here. I was really hoping that I was going to be eating something soon here. No flint. Hey. All right. I’m just giving up on that piece. What is that dust? What can you do with dust? Okay. Okay. Well, what I need to do is I need to get more wood out of here or I need I need to go back to where all that flint is. Can I make Hold on. I Let me trying to do too many things at once here. Okay, my priority right now is food and then I’ll figure out shelter cuz uh I’m battling that. I’m going to use my my wooden pickaxe for a little bit here. Don’t need to rush straight to stone. I’m going to make a if I even can. Furnace. Looks like I can put the furnace here. Then I wonder, can you get coal with stone? I don’t know. But for now, I’m going to throw my planks in here. We’re going to cook some of this bass. That’s going to take care of uh that part of the equation. Other thing I need to figure out is water cuz it is dropping fast. I’m assuming there’s water somewhere. I think I’m thirsty cuz I’m hungry. If I eat, I might not become that thirsty. I’m going to try to walk slow. Or maybe it’s cuz I’m injured. I don’t know. Getting chewed up by this place. Cooked bass. Let’s eat this. Like I’m a little bit hungry still. This what I was talking about with the uh hunger mod. I want a mod that kind of is a bit more realistic when it comes to like food in Minecraft. Like I’ve talked about this before in previous videos, but if I was actually in this survival situation, there’s no way I would eat four full fish and three ribeye steaks just to get full enough to walk around for the next like 20 minutes. Like I kind of want like I don’t know if you ever watch some of these survival shows, it’s like food is a big part of it. But they go several days without eating and then once they finally do like manage to get a bit of food, it’s like a big deal. So that’s kind of what I want. I don’t know whether it’s like every There’s water right there. I need that. Can I just drink right from this right here? I can. Perfect. All right, great. Just drinking dirty water. I don’t know if it’s like every day your hunger goes down by like one, but you don’t expel hunger from moving around. Or maybe you do. I don’t know. And then you need to like try to find food, but food is hard to find. Like way harder than it is now. I I just I would like something like that. Anyways, got food now. I’ve got some water in me. Um I’m going to take this with me. I’m also going to take this with me. And I need to go get more flint. I need a fine flint. The one thing I need to watch out for is since no trees grow and I’m not going to be able to grow any trees up here. Uh the wood that I have now is the wood that I will always have. So I need to not break my legs by falling. I need to be very cautious with every piece of wood I use. So like burning wood there uh was not good. I need to like only use coal and not make charcoal. Just got to be very very very mindful of my wood usage here for today. I just want to get some sort of shelter built that will at least keep me safe. The other challenge is that the longer I play, the colder it’s going to get. So, the little snow suit I have right here will keep me warm for now, but it won’t cut it. So, eventually I got to start thinking about getting something a bit warmer. By the way, I gave this mod pack, or at least a very similar version of this mod pack, to Girds ago, and I think he’s going to try to do a 100 days with this one. So, uh, watch his channel for that cuz he’s out there right now trying to survive and I’m, uh, I’m very curious to see how it’s going for him. Oh, Flint right here. Perfect. I don’t even have to go. I do want to go check the surface in some point, but I should make a shovel. I should make a wooden shovel. All right. Yeah, there we go. Piece of flint. Got to get as much uh flint as possible. I have a lot of ideas for these survival focused videos. Look at that. Did I get Did I get a piece of stone there? Yeah, I did. Great. Hey, my flint’s holding on. That one didn’t. How many rocks do I have? I got seven rocks now. Okay, this is going good. Keep keep smashing this flint. There we go. Can’t wait till I can purify water. Can you get coal with a wooden pickaxe? That is the question everyone’s wondering. You can. That is fantastic news. I think I can get a stone pickaxe now anyways. But okay, so with my rocks. Are is this working? Yeah, it’s working. Okay. I got to like keep napping these things together like sharpening rocks. There we go. Okay, now with those I got five of them. I can use those to make Okay, you can make all the pieces. So, let’s start with the most important one, which is a stone pickaxe head. Then using this plus a stick, we’ve got a stone pickaxe. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful to have this thing. That is it. It’s going to open up the a world for us. Now, let’s make Can I make a shovel? Yeah, let’s make a shovel. Okay, so now I got a stone shovel and I can use that to quickly Well, first of all, I’m not carrying junk with me. Get rid of this wooden one. Start digging out. I got a feeling that iron is not going to be as simple as just going to get the iron. In fact, I know it’s not because I added a mod that changes how iron is produced. Okay, I’ve got 58 gravel. That’s got to be enough. And I have two more ribe eyes. I’ll wait a little bit longer to eat that ribeye. One of the things that I’m wondering about is how am I going to get water bottles to make canteen so I can keep drinking the still ca or purify this still cave water. Look at that thing. How’s it going? I’ve got I’m down to one ribeye steak. So, I need to I also need to figure out food cuz if I’m if I’m flying there’s not that much food out here. I mean, there’s the the fish. So, I can do a bunch of fishing. I think that’s what I’ll probably do. I’ll go up to the surface. I’ll get a fire going or I’ll Yeah, what I’m going to do is I’m going to go get as much wood as I can. Do a wood run. Then I’ll come up to the surface and do a bunch of fishing. Then I will find somewhere to build and that is how I will survive. Okay, I think I’m going to have to I think the reason why my thirst is going down so quickly is because I’m injured right now. I’ve got two broken feet. So, I I have this medkit. We’ll fix one foot. This is all the wood I’ve got. Every piece of wood here is just crucial. I haven’t even begun to think about the type of shelter I’m going to make. It’s going to have to be real simple and real easy, but warm. It’s not like I have a lot to to use here. Three of these need to go to a fire, a campfire. Wherever I put down the campfires, I got to kind of think that I might put my shelter there. It’s daytime. Enjoy. Oh. Whoa. Careful. If you knock me into that water, I’m to Oh, I need to relax. Relax. Relax. Relax. Relax. Relax. You are going nuts. going nuts with this water breaking. Nice to get a little bit of sun on the face, you know. Look at this. Bring some water. And then I got to find somewhere to do some fishing or at least I’m going to I’m going to make some mushroom soup. And then yeah, put down this. We’ll use this to make a bowl. And with that bowl, we can take our brown mushroom and our red mushroom. And boom. We’ve got a bit of bit of soup to keep me going. This should also help my thirst and warm me up a little bit. Now I’m wondering if there’s sand in the bottom of this these rivers anymore. It doesn’t look like it. That’s fine. But look at that. My two minutes of sunlight. Come on. Just like that. That’s fine. What we’re going to do is we’re going to set this up like this. can do some fishing. Got to be able to make more soups. Soups are going to be crucial out here. Oh, here comes a fish. Look at it. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. Take the bait, please. What are you doing? Take it. Come on. I’m reeling it in. Come on. Come on. I I didn’t know it was going to be like this. Please. I just one fish. I got No. Okay. I need a system to to land these fish better. This is such a This is such a waste of wood right now. What am I doing? But whatever. That That’s going to keep me warm and I can hopefully get the fish in there. There we go. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. All the way in. All the way into my fire. There we go. Cook it. Cook you. Perfect. And we’ll Oh, I thought that cooked it. I thought that cooked it. I was so excited. But look, I can There we go. Clear out the by the fire. Four fish from one catch. See, that’s that’s why it’s good. I don’t just get one fish, you get four. I need to figure out a way to I don’t need to waste coal now. I just have four cooked cod. That’s great. I need to find a way to purify water, though. Can make a canteen if I get leather. So, I think what I’m going to do tomorrow is once I get some daylight, I’m going to head up to the surface and I’m going to walk around and I’m going to look for some leather. Oh, you I can make bone broth. Bone broth would be huge. So, I got to make a hole. I’m just going to fish. I’m going to get I’m going to stock up on fish for now. And then uh I am going to need some sort of thrown weapon though if I want to. There we go. Come on. Another cod. You’re coming right in. Right to the fire. Come on. Come in. Come in. Come on. Come up here. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. I spend my nights cooking or finding fish. Cooking them for rock hot there, too. All right. I got tons of fish now. So, food’s going to be good. It’s just water that I’m dealing with. I need to find leather. Okay, I’ve got tons of food. How we doing? Still in the middle of the night. This is This is insane. These long nights. Nothing to do but keep fishing, I guess. So, there’s a whole butchering mod that I have in here called Butchery. It’s kind of It’s a little bit much. I don’t know. You can get a lot of stuff from it. Okay, so it turns out to make an iron pickaxe, I’m going to need to make a pol. Okay, let’s say I want to make an iron sword, for example, to go hunting. Uh, I need a sword handle and a polished iron sword blade. And to get that, I need rough iron sword blade. And to get that, I need hot iron sword blade. And to get that, I need hot iron. I need to heat up polished iron sword blade and to get I need to There’s a whole bunch of stuff that I do not understand how to do. What I need is daytime right now. Once it’s daytime, I’m going up there and I’m getting leather. I’m just going to sit here and wait and not use any energy. If I had a bed, this is where I’d go to sleep right now. I’d sleep right here. But I don’t have a bed. That’s another thing. If I can find some wool tomorrow, that’d be good. Okay, the sun is finally rising by that mountain. I got like five minutes here. It’s very cold up here. I got to find a way to stay a little bit warmer cuz like the longer I’m up here, the colder I get. There’s something right there. Look at that. You know what that is? That is a muskox. That is exactly. Look at that. Absolutely beautiful. I saw one of these things in real life. Oh, I’m getting cold, though. I can’t really be up here for too long. I need to take that thing down, but I don’t I don’t know what those are. I don’t know what those are. It’s going to be a problem for me. I need I need them, though. I need to take it out. Uh, but I need some sort of ranged thing. I think I I I don’t want to do it cuz I keep making javelins in every one of these videos. But they’re they’re a beautiful weapon. It’s a thrown weapon that does a lot of damage and you get four of them. So, all right. That’s that’s not supposed to be in there. Okay. Uh, javelin. I can make a javelin. Javelin. I’m not going to make an iron javelin even though I can cuz I feel like that’s cheating cuz I haven’t like unlocked iron properly. But I can make a stone one. So, we’re going to make a couple stone javelins here. I got extra string and I have some sticks. We’re going to turn some of this wood into sticks. I’m going to make two poles. And then we’ll make what? Where’s my Don’t have stone. I don’t have stone somehow. Let’s just take care of that right here. That’s two stone javelins. Okay, that right there is exactly what we need. Here we go. It’s not fighting back. There we go. And look at that. Three leather and some beef. Here we go. Oh, come on. Look at that. Beautiful. Beautiful. How much? Six leather. Two muskox down. That’s going to get me a canteen. With the canteen, that takes care of the water problem. The water problem out of the way and the food problem out of the way. The only thing that leaves me stuck now is heat. Look at this. Sun’s already going down. Short arctic days. Look at this canteen. Grab that canteen. Fill it up. Grab this. Get that purifying. I’m going to have purified water. Hungry. Going to grab a cooked cod. Got beef on the fire. And we’re about to go into another long arctic night. Look at this purified water. I’m doing good. All right. Didn’t quite get a shelter made, but it’s a good start. See you guys in the next one. Okay. Just got just got wet. Sun’s going down. It’s getting colder and colder, but I got to do this. Where is he? My man. I Hey, how’s it going? I got something for you. Something you’re really going to want. I made you a promise. There you go. Take it. Take it. I want it. You You have any idea what I just went through to get this fish? Okay. It doesn’t care.
