Reacting to YOUR Hot Takes About Stardew Valley! 🔥
[Music] [Applause] Welcome back to Gaming Hot Takes, a series where I read your hottest takes about various video games. In today’s video, I’ll be reading your hottest takes about Stardew Valley. Now, this game is very cozy, very relaxing, so I’m very curious to know what you guys like or didn’t like about Stardew Valley. So, with that said, let’s get right into your hot takes. The slime hutch is not even worth it. I played through to perfection twice, but never built it because why bother? Yeah, I kind of agree. I mean, the slime hutch is probably the most worthless building that you can get from Robin. Um, I got to just have every building in the game cuz I’m that kind of person. But yeah, the the slime hutch is not really worth it. I mean, if you need slime, I guess, sure, but I mean, there’s lots of slime in the mines anyway, so why would you really need a slime hutch that badly? Uh, if you like raising slime and making slime eggs, I guess fine. But yeah, in my opinion, the slime hutch is definitely the most worthless thing to get uh built from Robin. But if you like having every building in the game like I do, then it’s, you know, it’s not really that expensive. It’s, you know, you can probably get it and it’s not going to really cost you that much. So, uh, yeah, it it’s not worth it to like have to build your farm really. But if you love having your farm, like you know, having every building, then I guess it somewhat worth it. But overall, yeah, you can probably go without it. The community center is just disappointing to me. You haul dozens of items across seasons, and in return, you get fast travel and mild affection. I’d expect to get a more useful building and actual changes in the town’s daily life. Good point here. I mean, the rewards from the from the community center aren’t all that great. I mean, um, having fast travel is cool. Um, having raised friendship is good if you’re trying to get like the achievements for getting all like max friendship levels. Um, you get like various areas unlocked because you do certain bundles. Um, but yeah, I kind of agree with that last part. I cuz like once you complete it, it’s not really worth going back to unless you care that much about being inside of it. But like once you beat the bundles, it’s kind of just a there building. Um, and like the actual changes to like the town’s daily life once you do beat it is like not really there. I mean, it’s kind of the same as it was before you beat it. So, uh, I get where you’re coming from here. Um, but yeah, I I think actually doing the community center is still fun. I did like beating all the bundles and getting everything and, you know, getting parts of the map unlocked because of that. Um, could there have been more to it? Probably. But uh I think for what it was, it was satisfying enough. Once you marry your partner, they don’t do all that much. I don’t mean like feed the animals or water plants. That stuff is nice. I mean, they get very NPC like, “Oh, hi sweetie. Have a good day at work.” I just wish there was more story. This is definitely a good point. Um I I do think that, you know, having the option to marry your partner and have kids is definitely a good thing that more games should have in my opinion. Like Animal Crossing for some reason can’t let you marry your villagers. Like what? So, um yeah, I I get your point here, though. Like, you know, getting them to feed the animals is definitely good. Having to not water the plants is definitely a good uh a good thing. But having more story would be definitely cool. I think like, you know, if there was like more lore to that character that you marry, that you get from marrying them and having kids with them. That’d be kind of cool to experience. Um that might be a thing they add to started in a in a future update. I don’t know. I mean, maybe there’s mods out there that uh that do that, but we’re just doing like actual Stardew for this video. We’re not going to count any mods or anything. So, in actual Stardew, then yeah, there’s not really much uh story you get beyond like having um marriage and kids with your partner. So, um that’d be nice, but uh I think having the option to do that at all is uh good enough for me. Time passes 10 to 15% too quickly. correction. It It passes too quickly when you’re in multiplayer. If you’re in single player, you can just pause the game and the time won’t go, which is nice. But if you have like a full farm with your friends, then time can seem to pass you by sometimes, like when you’re doing a whole lot of tasks in one day. So, uh I kind of agree here. I do wish there was a way to like maybe, you know, slow the time down with like uh like a power up or something or maybe like a I don’t know like there I wish there were ways to like have certain days where you get more time to like get a lot of stuff done in one day. That’d be kind of neat. But um yeah, I think single player is fine. You know, getting to pause the menu and have the time not tick while you’re in the menu is definitely good. But uh yeah, now that you mentioned it, the the time does pass too quickly when you’re in multiplayer with your friends. Like there have been so many times where I’ve been playing with like the starter crew and the time just like flies by for us. We’re not really paying attention to the clock. So um yeah, I I agree with this take. I I I wish I wish there was least an option to um have time pass by slower with like certain things you can get in the game. A fleshed out combat system with a bunch of monsters, bosses, magic, unique weapons, and armor, etc. would go a long way. I guess Stardew is not supposed to be a combat game, but it has such a good base for what could be one. You know, I kind of agree here. I’d love to see a Stardew Valley RPG. I think having this art style and having the whole like maybe 2D HD sort of style for like uh you know them doing what they with the Dragon Quest and um uh Octopath. I think that would be really cool for a potential game in the future. So, um yeah, as far as this game, the the combat is definitely not the best. I mean, um when you get better weapons, it’s more manageable, but um even then, you’re mostly just like slashing your sword. There’s no really skill to it, if you know what I mean. Um and there’s not really any bosses. There’s like hard enemies, but like again, once you know the system, they’re not even that hard anymore. So, um, yeah, I think all all of these issues right here could be easily solved, like I said, with a Stardew Valley RPG. I think if they take the combat system from this game, make a full-fledged RPG Stardew game out of it, that could be really good in my opinion. That could actually add some depth to like some of the weapons, like the Galaxy Sword you get in the game, um, and all the tools you get as well. So, um I I kind of hope they actually go through with that because I think a Stardw Valley RPG could be a really good game with this combat system and have it just, you know, you know, add more layers to it. So, um we’ll see. But as far as this game, yeah, the combat system definitely could be better. There should be a book that shows you everyone’s location of the map at any given time. I know it’s a PC mod, but I like playing on my Switch and it’s annoying as hell to look everyone up. So, again, we’re not going to be talking about mods in this video, but um I’m pretty sure the newest update lets you see where your friends are at any given time, right? If you pull up the map, like you can see their little head icons moving across the map, right? I’m pretty sure. Maybe you guys have maybe you haven’t like checked it out yet, but uh in the new update, if you pull up the map, you actually see where your friends are in real time and like see their little icons moving. So, uh maybe you missed that. I don’t know. But, um yeah, I mean it’s it’s there. It’s a It’s a new feature. So, uh, if you haven’t checked it out, go check it out. It’s in the newest update and, uh, it’s pretty helpful. Stop. National Die Virgin, stop. Stop it. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Stay the car. Oh, [Laughter] you didn’t like it. And now, let’s get back into the video. There really should be more substance to choosing the JoJo route. Morris is just evil capitalist with some spice. Unlike Pierre, who is white boy evil capitalist, neither of them have anything interesting about them. And it’s sad as with the JoJo route, we interact with Morris a lot more. So, I will not comment on that first part about Pierre being that. But, um, I’m going to say I did do some of the Jojo route. I didn’t do all of it. I need to get the achievement for that still. But um I do agree that Morris seemed to be a bit more interactive than Pierre was. I think Pierre is pretty much only active when you first start it and then when you end it pretty much. There’s really no like in between which is kind of disappointing because um I think Pierre could have had a bit more story to him with um you know him watching you complete the bundles and you know congratulating you on it. So, um yeah, I I can’t touch too much on this. I got to do like the whole Jojo route myself to like actually have a better understanding of it. But, um what I have played so far of it, I definitely agree that Morris does seem a bit more involved with the actual completion of the building than Pierre does with the community center. So, uh yeah, I’m not going to comment again on what you called Pierre there, but um as far as the interactions, I think Morris is definitely better than Pierre. Not the hottest take, but I really do love fishing in Stardew Valley. Combat and mining, on the other hand, I’d rather spend my day fishing than going to the mines or the skull cavern. Fishing is kind of fun in this game. I do actually like the whole uh mini game you play where you have to keep the little uh fish icon in the bar. I didn’t really like it that much at first, but the more I played it, I’m like, you know what, this is actually fine. I mean, it’s not the best thing, but like it’s manageable once you get the hang of it, and it’s sort of fun in a way. Um, combat and mining. Yeah, people are like there’s not really that much depth to it. And combat especially could be better as we touched on it in in the uh previous hot take earlier. But um yeah, I think out of every mechanic in Stardew Valley, I think fishing might be my favorite. It can get boring when you’re trying to get like a whole bunch of fish to like either smoke or sell or just do whatever with. But um yeah, honestly, I might agree with you here. I might choose fishing more over combat and mining. Maybe there’s some days where I’m not fishing to like really do anything. And I guess combat and mining are more on my plate than fishing is, but if I have all three at my disposal to like do either fishing, combat, or mining, I I probably would do fishing uh with you like you say here as well. So, uh yeah, I am more of a fishing guy in Starder Valley. The bath house sucks because of how far away it is. You have to wait for it to unlock and how long it takes to regain any stamina. And the movie theater is a complete waste for what all it requires. The movie theater is kind of fun, but it’s not really something you need to worry about that much. I mean, it’s just a little cool unlockable. Um, as far as the bath house, yeah, I mean, I kind of agree here. I mean, if you want to heal your health, just either eat or sleep or whatever. I mean, yeah, I I think having a teleport point for the train area would be definitely nice. Um, but I wouldn’t say it’s that big of a deal. I mean, I don’t really go there to heal anyway. I go there just to do the penny event pretty much and see the train. So, um yeah, I don’t think it’s that much of an issue to where you have to worry about the bath house that much anyway. So, um yeah, if you if you care enough about it, I guess, yeah, but um there there’s other ways to heal your health and stamina in the game that um the the bath house is just something that you don’t really ever have to worry about that much. It ruined farming games forever. Everyone tries to copy it hard now. Well, you have to realize that this game is basically a copy itself because it kind of takes after Harvest Moon from the N64. So, um I don’t think this game really should be getting that much hate for uh farming games afterwards because Stardw Valley is pretty much a continuation of the Harvest Moon franchise. So, uh this game itself is also a copy, but I don’t think it’s really a bad thing. I mean, not every farming game works the same. Like, I think each game does have its own unique mechanics that um make them stand out. Maybe they don’t have that much uh that are diff that’s different, but um I think this game probably does have certain things about it that are different than maybe other farming games, especially Harvest Moon. Uh I haven’t played Harvest Moon myself, so I don’t really know that much, but um yeah, I wouldn’t say Stard ruin farming games forever. I feel like they can definitely have farming games in the future have different mechanics to make them stand out and have them not rely too much on what Stardew brought to the table and Harvest Moon. So, um yeah, I I think farming games in the future will be just fine. I despise the Skull Caverns and trying to get down to 400 plus. Yeah, the Skull Cavern is not a joke, man. It can be very hard. Now, uh if you’re like us in the recent starter stream and you have a whole bunch of stairs that can help you get through every four in like 10 minutes, then uh it’s not really that much of a challenge. But if you don’t, then uh yeah, it’s kind of a hard journey. There’s like you have to hope you get like stair or ladders and holes pretty quickly and you have to hope that the holes like send you as far down as possible. And the skeletons are annoying. The dragon or the dinosaurs can be kind of annoying. Uh the purple bats are kind of annoying at times. Um, so yeah, I mean I don’t really despise the skull caverns, but uh I get why people might because like there is an achievement I think for getting down to like whatever floor it is, but um yeah, it is hard to get if you don’t have like a bunch of stairs with you and you’re not like good at finding uh ladders and holes right away. So yeah, I don’t hate it myself, but I fully understand why some people maybe don’t vibe with the Skull Cavern. The game’s UI and especially settings and navigation through the menu are one of the worst I’ve ever seen. You have to change music volume every time you want to do a new farm because each farm has default settings. And while in chess UI, you can’t pick up an item move yourself like in Minecraft. You have to open your inventory to do that. Yeah, now that you mention it, that is a little bit questionable that you can’t just like move items wherever you want to in a chest. It’s like once you click it, it just goes there automatically. I mean, I don’t really find it that much of an issue, but like I would prefer to like move it to whatever slot I wanted to to like, you know, organize stuff better. But, um, as far as the UI, I think it’s fine. I mean, are there better UIs in other farming games? Maybe. But, I think Stardew does a good job of like, you know, giving you what you need to know for every day, like the the the time of day, the weather, um, your little quick bar at the bottom. I think it’s fine for what it is. Um, and the menu navigation is like the the tabs. I I guess aren’t for everybody. I think they’re fine because they’re pretty well organized for the most part, but um yeah, I mean, could be better for sure, but um I think for what it is, it was fine. Like um I didn’t have really any issues with it. Uh the chest thing though, I kind of agree with. I do wish we could have the option to like move items freely to like any slot we want into a chest. That’d be kind of nice. But um overall, I don’t really agree with a whole lot of this stuff. I think it’s fine, but um I I guess I kind of understand your frustrations here. All right, folks.
