They added SKILL TREES to Terraria…
This Terraria mod adds in a gigantic skill tree to the game, but it’s not your ordinary skill tree. It’s a difficulty skill tree, meaning the more you level up on it, the harder the game gets. Let’s hop in game and check it out. Hey yo, everybody, welcome. We are here checking out the Umbra mod, which is a mod that adds in a sort of skill tree, and it’s made by one of the main Starlight River mod creators, so you know it’s going to be quality. Starlight River, please drop an update. I miss you. Yeah, let’s get to it. This thing is sick because it’s not necessarily a pure skill tree. If we look at it, it says umbil tree. Click this to open the umbil tree where you can spend umbra to increase the difficulty of the game. It’s a pain tree rather than a skill tree. If we click this, boom. Oh my god, look at this. Can we full screen? We can full screen it. Look at this. You guys ever play what is it? Pillars of Eternity. I think it’s POE or Path No, it’s Path of Exiles. The real POE. I don’t know. They’re both POE. But one of those games has an insane skill tree. And if we look, yeah, that’s exactly what this is here. Now, instead of getting pure skills, say like, oh, melee ranger skill set. I could roll and shoot or I could jump and do jumping and melee attacks. No, this is a pure pain tree. And what I mean is if we upgrade something here, we’re actually making the game harder. Look at this. Negates or disables most of the positive effects of Doom. Okay, that don’t matter. Enemies have plus one damage. Even more enemies have plus one damage. And we keep on going until we get to crazier things. 5% instead of just plus one. It’s a whole percentage now. Yeah, as you can see, it gets crazy. But this is such a cool idea to make the game harder for all the massochists cuz Terraria does have a lot of massochists that play the game. Definitely more than the Souls game community, which you’d expect to have a lot more, but Terraria beats them there. Yeah, you may be like, “Okay, what’s the point in me making the game harder other than being just like a straightup massochist?” Well, you get something called Doom. As you can see, look at this. Doom is an approximate measure of the influence of the Umbreal tree on the game’s difficulty. So, the more things you upgrade through here, you gain Doom. As you can see, cost one Umbra, gain three Doom. And what Doom does, it puts up your drops, your gold, your luck. As you can see in the bottom, percentage increased gold drop, percentage luck or plus luck, percentage chance to drop double loot, percentage chance to drop Umbra. So there is a benefit. You’re getting higher drops for everything, which in a game like Terraria is amazing. So the way you get Umbra is I think it just builds up killing enemies and then on top of that, it can straight up just drop. So boom, I just killed a bunch of enemies. As you can see, our bar is close to, you know, being done there. Boom. Look at that. Now we have a point. Now, I don’t think we got to buy this first one, but let’s see. Spawn rate increase. Enemies have more life. Enemies do more damage. I think I’m liking the spawn rate increase. And just like that, now we can see we got 1.69% increased gold drop. Our luck didn’t move at all, but our drops are 0.01% higher. Shoot, that’s amazing in Terraria, I guess. And we got 0.5% chance to drop even more umbra. Uh, there is actually like things in the corner. What is this? Export tree and edit tree. Okay, maybe don’t touch this. I also think you could rightclick and take away the point, which is very cool. You don’t have to like do anything to specifically do that. Just like most games where you try and end a skill tree or revert a skill tree, you got to like get like a special item. You guys ever play Dark Souls 3I and try to respspec? Yeah, there’s this Umbra pickup. I wonder, can I just throw it out? Pick it up. Yeah, look at that. Straight up plus one Umbra. So, that’s what it looks like when you get like a full point. I want to read into some of these later things though. What are some of the later skills? Repeat mana ty teeth titty. I don’t know. I’ve never used that word in my life. All weapons cost plus4 mana to use. So like it’s just you straight up just got to use even more mana. Okay. Uh mana flex bleeding players lose mana rapidly. Okay. So we have a whole mana section. Mundanity. Moonanity. Your first two accessory slots are blocked. That’s insane. That is insane. I kind of want to get there though. Hold up. Okay. What if I kill a boss? What if I were to kill like the king slime? How much umbra does that give me? Oh, they give me a good bit. So, maybe we kill a bunch of them. I’m only getting one at a time. It really depends on if you get that drop or not. But, let’s work our way down this tree. I like how it started with spawn rate and then it goes into mana when you go just deeper down. But, let’s stick to spawn rate. Enemy life regen is crazy. What? Keep on going down here. Can I get this one? No, we need eight. I really want to get to this one. Oh, wait. Hold up. We have to go on the outskirts. We don’t even have to go down the mana tree. Oh my god. Defense. More life. These are crazy. Some of these are insane. Bosses take 2% decreased damage. Okay. Boom. Work our way down here. We got 10 doom. What does that mean? Damn. 16% more gold drops. That is actually beautiful. Now, what if I were to kill a tougher boss? Am I getting more Umbra? I I really don’t know what’s the best way to get Umbra in this. Is there specific things I should be looking for? I have no idea. I think the best way might just be just do this over and over cuz this gets me a guaranteed one every time. Okay, we need 30 Umbra for this. All right, I have enough. Let’s buy this. Boom. What’s our doom looking like? Dang. 167% more increased gold. That’s crazy. So, just like that, I lose two of my accessory slots. Like I said, I lost my my wings and my my boots. Cannot be removed, man. and hate to see it. I like how it’s just like a face. So, there you go. Uh, obviously the way you can remove it is just like that if you don’t hate yourself that much. There you go. Get rid of it. Wait, do you only get half points back? I only got 15 back. Okay, that’s kind of something to look out for. What’s out here though? We got chance for enemies to inflict poison. So, not just like an enemy that’s poisonous like, you know, one of the spiders or something. A hornet, whatever poisons you. No, just all enemies just poison you. No. And also, you can have all enemies just inflict slowness. Okay, let’s keep on looking on some of the outskirts, though. How How bad does it get out here? Oh, Frostburn. Amazing. What about this one? Non-boss enemies a 10% chance to spawn with enchanted snowflake. I What the hell does that even mean? Enemies with enchanted snowflake release deadly ice shards. Uh, we got bad medicine. Consuming healing items inflict doom for 5 seconds. Doom is a debuff which causes players to take more damage. Oh my god, these are just they’re terrible. Hold up. Calamity. This node will only be allocated if Calamity is enabled. It’s got mod compatibility. That’s amazing. Actually, does it have Starlight River compatibility or do they the dev himself forget that Starlight River exists? I don’t know what’s on this tree, though. Blood Moon. The latter half of every night is always a blood. That sounds terrible. Enemies that spawn blood moon have 10% to inflict bleeding. Enemies that spunder blood moon, they have more damage and defense. Okay, what about this one? Sadated only by an offering of hellish flesh. Enter hard mode to pass this node. Okay, I want to I want to see that. The thing the problem is my map doesn’t work. My mini map doesn’t work. So, I got to get to hell like this. I don’t know why my mini map isn’t working. Something just broke it straight up. But we’re fine. Kill the wall. Flash. And now, let’s see what this does. Oh, it doesn’t even tell me what it is. Do I have to like build to get up there? Oh my god, that’s so far. We got comorbidity. Comorbidity. I’ve never seen that word. Players that are poison are also venom. Players that are venom are also poisoned. Jesus. What about this one? Spontaneous generation. And enemies have a 10% chance to split into two. Oh my god, that actually sounds fun. Uh, vengeful shades. Enemies have 10% chance to spawn wraith on death, but they always drop an extra Umbra point. 1% increased spawn rate per five doom. Damn. And enemies have a 1% chance to inflict doom. Pretend doom. Doomed is a debuff. Okay, so that’s the one where you take more damage. Again, we have the flesh crucible song. Maybe this doesn’t even do anything. Maybe you just need to pass hard mode to unlock these upper ones. What is this one? Temporal trans. Everything moves 25% faster. What the hell? Mending. Hey, should I Minecraft? Enemies have 50% increased life regen. Jesus, 50%. Yeah, good luck early game trying to kill something. If you get that, you’re going to need some good damage early on. Undeniable foes. Enemies are unaffected by knockback. Terrible. Instruments are harmed. Enemies have 10% chance to spawn as harmful. Having 50% more damage. Oh my god. Yeah, I would love to see somebody do a full playthrough. Get at everything on this because this is insane. Enemies heal for oh just you know 100 life on hit. No not nothing too crazy. Just all their health pretty much. Yeah. Let’s look at all the big ones. This one says players that bleed are also always on fire. Healing items restore health gradually instead of instantaneously. That is terrible. Uh enemies take 50% decreased damage from hits. Worms take additional 10%. What the worm specific tree. Enemies throw daggers in a random direction when they dodge. Oh yeah, by the way, you can make enemies have dodge chance. Light decreases while in the dark, recovering slowly when you return to the light. So, your character is just slowly going blind. Enemies within 10 blocks of players have 20 life regen per second. Players have 25% decreased life regen. M. Oh, here we look at that. Here we go. It just gives you a little little barrier thing. Enemies have barrier. Actually, not you don’t get a barrier thing. Panic guard. Enemies below 33% life, 15 defense. Uh, what did I not see? Oh, here we go. No, I saw that one. Is there any big ones I didn’t see? I think we saw most of them. Wait, bosses have more life, but they drop additional treasure bags. Pretty good. Bosses deal more damage, but you know, drop treasure bags. Players lose 20 maximum life when hurt. Jesus, it’s like a permanent injury. But this is so cool. This is so cool. I do actually like how some of them do have a shape. Like this one is a eyeball. Uh this one up here is a heart. This one’s a shield. This one’s a sword. Like they actually do have shapes and they’re not just random like dots on the skill tree. This one is the the Y in Calamity. Starlight River. Let me Where’s the Starlight River one? This one’s obviously shaped like a river. It’s not actually. It’s a little bit upsetting. Yeah, it’s a cool mod. There’s so much you could do with it. Like I don’t even know what to start pressing on. Just start pressing on things. I kind of want the the split in two thing. The split and two thing is crazy. Let me see if I could work my way up the tree to that thing. Is Doom is kind of expensive. So, hold up. Or not Doom, Umbra. Like, look at this. I I got to get 10 to go up higher. All right. I got 40. I just spawned in like a million King Slimes and killed them over and over. I like the like guitar rift it plays. Boom. Flesh Crucible. Oh, it’s free. So, I can just go up. Boom. And then we get up here and let’s make all the enemies split into two. Let’s see. Is this 100% true now? Let’s make it master mode so enemies can actually take a little bit of a hit. Go ahead. Start splitting into two, boys. I can’t tell. Well, I don’t even know the percentage if I’m being honest with you. It’s Oh, 5% chance. We want to make it to 10. So, let me uh do this one more time. Jesus, it feels like there’s way more enemies. They’re definitely splitting. Okay, there we go. And now they for sure will split into two. Or not for sure, but way higher chance. So, bring in more zombies yet again. And let’s just start hitting them. Come on. Somebody split into two. I’m not seeing any two splitting. Okay, maybe we need like a better enemy for this. Let’s do a Let’s do a rock golem. Oh, one of them split into two. Look at that. There’s there’s some fresh health ones sitting in the back. So, one of these dudes for sure split into two. Yeah. At the end of the day, this this is super sick and I feel like I kind of want to do something with it in the future, even though it’s pure just pain and I ain’t usually a pure just pain Terraria player, but this seems so cool. It’s such a cool way to make the game so much harder and I really mess with it. I wanted to do something with it in the future. So, I don’t know. We’ll see. Uh in the future, maybe we’ll do a playthrough. Let me know in the comments. Maybe that playthrough has to have Starlight River and Calamity in it. Oh my god, that would be terrible. Not the Starlight River part, the Calamity part because you know something Calamity is going to insta kill me over and over with a mod like this. But yeah, make sure to check it out. It’s amazing. Shout out everyone that worked on it. Also, make sure to leave a like, subscribe, turn on the notification bell for future videos. Also, peep the second channel, Gamers Live, where I post my Twitch streams and YouTube streams cuz I stream on both at the same time and I post the streams that you miss on the second channel. So, peep that. I’ll be seeing y’all in the next video though. Have a good one.
Not only did this mod add skill trees, but they make the game HARDER instead of easier.

Nice, I'm the first person to view the video, that's a first for me
New mod vid, let's gooo 🔥
Skill tree
That's cool
Nice
I was looking for mods to make my experience BETTER..
Path of Exile experience in Terraria….
its pretty cool but i think it should give you back more cool effects in return, since you cannot really use up all that money after a certain point. But i love the idea of getting to choose how hard the game is and then getting rewards depending on it.
A saw a Bismuth Mod port on the workshop. didn't play it but I'm letting you know it got ported (I don't think it's complete though… it might be though cause like I said I didn't play it)
Isn't the mana tree broken? as long as you're playing not mage it just free doom. Otherwise the mod looks really cool but the ratio of rewards to difficulty doesn't seem very worth it
Somebody tell Yardis about this
Is the drop rate increase flat? Or does it scale with the basic rate? +2% of 0.02% is basically irrelevant. 0.02% + 2% = 2.02% would be a massive improvement
Looking forward to seeing someone crazy enough to beat Umbra mode. Aka, having Every single umbra skilltree notch unlocked right out the gate [Except modded or crucible notches probably]. Ngl. The fact this turns Terraria into opposite day is INSANE. Enemies are straight up wearing accessories at this point with the dodge rate and worm tree. I honestly think this might be harder than any difficulty mode I've ever seen in that case.
