Mojang Added VERTICAL SLABS To Minecraft…
Everyone is saying that vertical slabs have been added to Minecraft because of the new shelf block, but there’s something really important that they’re missing. Now, the shelf can act as a vertical slab, but it’s a plonkers version of it. You see, the most important aspect is when you picture a vertical slab, you need a left and a right orientation to place them, similar to the top and bottom orientations of real slabs. And this does work with the shelves, but they aren’t actually like vertical slabs. They’re more like trap doors. And of course, they’re thicker and bolder, which do function better for vertical slabs, but we already had walls. Now, if you surround a wall in blocks, it arguably functions better as a vertical slab. It’s just not centered in the block. But nonetheless, shelves are cool, and I love them. Mujang, I’m proud of you for this edition.

Say you're not a builder without saying you're not a builder. Im already envisioning many ways to intigrate it into my builds yet you complain? Atleast we got something thicker than a trapdoor which i've been praying for, even with that cut out in the middle
They ain't even saying it literally, we mean vertical slab as a flush into the wall block that doesn't cover a whole block
(The excample of walls as a slab just sounds even more emptyheaded to me. Atleast the shelf is flush with the wall and is basicly a slab)

We got vertical slabs and slabs. Now we need diagonal slabs.
The whole point of a vertical slab is as a way to make FLAT walls. Y'know, to squeeze out a little extra bit of space in a cramped room, or to widen a doorway.
Mojang really should just nut-up and revamp the block system so that every non-special block has a normal, slab, vertical, stair, and vertical stair, fence, and wall variant that you make at the stonecutter, renamed to blockcutter. They can run a simple program that just takes the same texture and applies it properly to the block in question, making it fast to just design a texture and see how it looks on different blocks.
It'd also enable them to add copycat blocks as a creative mode exclusive, to test the textures of more odd blocks like Furnaces when changed into a slab or stair. With how the blockcutter would be set up, it wouldn't make sense to make copycat blocks available in survival, but it also couldn't hurt.

And even then, why is it that despite the couple different odds and ends we've gotten to make an attempt at vertical slabs over the years, we have even less to try and make sideways stairs?
Has there ever been any reason these things have needed to be added by mods?
