Mojang have removed spawn chunks! Wow.
So, welcome back to Java Edition. hitbox is showing. My hot bar is on the bottom. I have an F3 screen that looks a little bit different. I’ll go over all of this in a second. There are some sweeping changes in this game. It’s not just adding copper golems, copper chests. There’s a lot of stuff that has changed, and that’s expected cuz these guys are on hiatus. The first of which is world creation, more specifically, spawn chunks. Spawn chunks are no more. Yeah, I’m not I’m not kidding. There’s no such thing as spawn chunks anymore. In fact, if I go in game rule, spawn radius is the only game rule here now. Not spawn chunk radius. That is because the world spawn around here is no longer going to be automatically loaded forever. I’ll demonstrate this. So, I’m going to respawn about here and give myself a command block and run this. So, always active. RIP spawn chunks and done. Obviously, this is going to run because I’m loading it. If I teleport far enough away, that command block is no longer going to load. Now, the rationale behind this is obviously that spawn chunks is a deprecated feature. No one really uses it, which is not which is not true. We believe that the niche held by spawn chunks has now been filled by alternative methods of chunk loading. Not by everyone, though. I don’t know. You guys will have to tell me how you feel about that. Now, I wouldn’t say this change was entirely unexpected. So, back in snapshot 2403A, this is snapshot over a year and a half ago, the spawn chunk radius game rule was introduced. And what this simultaneously did was it reduced the spawn chunks from 12 all the way down to three. Now, in hindsight, I guess this was the first few steps that they took to eliminate this functionality altogether. If I return to spawn here, now respawning is going to take a bit longer because the world spawn isn’t automatically loaded. People tend to build a lot of farms in spawn chunks because the whole idea of using force load, which is not a survival friendly thing, ender pearl loaders, running things through a portal is not a feature that is relatively accessible to the public. So people often build things at spawn so it’s loaded automatically. By removing this feature you are essentially killing every single feature that people have decided to implement through spawn chunks. Now that is my opinion. When I was streaming in the chat it felt like people were obviously concerned enough to bring it up. I guess player feedback will dictate whether this is something that will be reverted. I don’t think it is. They’ve really thought long and hard about this. I think Moyang are done with spawn chunks and you now have to use esoteric methods which doesn’t make too much sense to me right now. All right. The next thing that is pretty obvious on the screen right now is this F3 debug information that is on the screen permanently. You may have noticed that when I accessed the command block and opened the GUI, this was superimposed on the console command. This is because you can now use F3 F5 to customize your F3 screen as much as you want. You can see that you’ve got a lot of information that you can customize. Here I’ve got game version always on. You can see that 25 W31A is the snapshot. Uh, we’ve got player position, the coordinates. Those are the only few things I’ve got permanently on the screen, which I think is fantastic. You can see I’ve got even more information now when I press F3. I’ve got the oct tree, which I’ve never seen before. I’ve got the F3G chunk borders always on as well. You can still access the pie chart. I don’t use it too much. I didn’t speedrun. Being able to customize it obviously improves rendering performance. You’ll also notice that there’s a pet rock here. I’ll just leave everything on. I don’t mind. If you leave the game, you can see that it’s still there. the coordinates disappear because I’m outside the world, but if I go back in, it is back. I’ll run through the patch notes sequentially here. So, all of the new features, you’ve got the copper chest, copper golem, statue. A lot of them align with bedrock. Some things here are specific to Java, but will creep their way into bedrock very soon. Now, we already know how copper golems behave. I have run a few tests here that you can see got one that’s blocked by a trapdo that should not be blocked by the trapoor, but for some reason, a copper golem cannot open this chest even though it can. I’m going to try not to scatterrain this, but this this guy is one block tall, yet he still can’t open the copper chest, which is weird because I can. I guess on the subject of path finding, I’ve blocked off every conceivable copper chest. So, these guys can’t be opened because they’ve got a block above it. This one’s blocked off by a fence. So, obviously, this is the only chest that a copper golem can open. They are slightly better than on Bedrock Edition, even though there are a lot of problems with these guys right now. It’s an early snapshot. Give them time to fix everything. What? What? Wait, why are you going here? As you already know, copper golems turn into statues. So, because you can’t affect them with random tick speed, one way to fasttrack this is with data modify. So, you can do weather state. Zero is regular, and then you’ve got exposed or lightly weathered. Weathered, and then oxidized is three. He has the following components. He has next weather age, which is how long it takes for him to turn into the next oxidation state. He’s also got main hand components, so you can use item replace to change what he’s holding. But what I’ll do now is change his next weather age value to one. And then he turns into a statue. So you can just do this to quickly oxidize him. And that’s it. All right. So shelves, we all know how shelves operate. You can exchange items out of them. If you power them like this, they will swap out the last three slots in your hot bar. This will go to number six. This will go to number three. The big question about whether they can interact with pistons on Java Edition is no. They cannot be pushed with pistons. It’s a shame that be the way that it is. However, they do interact with hoppers. So, you can see here I’ve got a hopper system running down through here. This is a dropper that’s being powered by an observer clock. And then it comes back out through this hopper and then interacts with this shelf. Because of this interaction with hoppers, there is now this ability to create a slot machine. I think this is something that a lot of people have been trying to do. Shelves will not be used like shelves anymore. Now, I just dis I just discovered something really odd. So the shelf in a comparator output is just a binary output, but it’s backwards. So a shelf has a comparator output depending on which slot is occupied. If I put one item on the first slot, there is an output of one. If I put it in the second slot, it has an output of three. And that’s because if I take an item out of the first slot, it becomes two. So how do I get four? Well, I’ll have to take these two out and then place one in the last slot. Now, you might notice a bit of a pattern here. To get six, I have to take out this one and then put one in the middle. And then that six, if they’re all filled up, it is seven. This is binary, but in reverse. You can’t differentiate between 1 and 1 zero. It’s got to be backwards, right? So, just an interesting I’m not even sure if this is intentional, but it’s something I just noticed. Next, we have a new accessibility setting that a lot of people are talking about. We’ve got a new control setting here for attacking and placing blocks. So, left clicking and right clicking. You can now toggle these, which might not seem like a big deal, but what this means is you no longer need to hold down left click and right click to do things. You can just toggle it by pressing. I’m hitting things about 3 to four clicks per second. And the same thing applies for right clicking. Now, this is actually kind of a big deal because a lot of people use this for farming. If I now toggle my right click, I’m now placing and breaking the block at the same time. I can toggle my left click and now I’m just placing blocks like this. This is obviously fast enough for speed bridging because the same logic applies as if you’re just holding the button down, which is obviously fast enough. This is definitely not an alternative for spam clicking. Spam clicking will be faster. If I hold a fishing rod and I just press right click once, I no longer need to use the crazy F3T exploit to trick the game into thinking that I’m constantly right clicking. This is simple enough for you to right click once and then walk away. There we go. I should have bye. Oh yeah, just be care just be careful because once you open a chest, you will be always opening that chest. Unfortunately, this does not work with left clicking or attacking farms. And that’s because when you fight something or you’re swinging a sword in the game, you actually have to attack. Holding down left click does not constantly attack things. This may bring you back to that combat experimental snapshot that has kind of been abandoned where if you hold down left click, you would actually attack. So unfortunately, this toggle does not work for spawner farms like this. Across all of this, there are also some rendering improvements. There are some peaceful difficulty improvements. Lightning rods now oxidized as well, so you now can wax your lightning. There’s also copper horse armor. I’m sure that’s going to arrive in Bedrock Edition as well. But there we go. Very, very big snapshot. It’s going to take some time for me to get used to all this stuff, but I’m very glad this is here. And as usual, if there’s anything else that I’ve missed, I’ll cover it in the next video.

The way they handled the Spawn Chunks is the best way they have handed any removal of a feature I've ever seen them done. The idea that spawn chunks are "more accessible" than any other chunk loading method is ONLY correct in the sense that it's easier to use early game than a nether portal or stasis chamber.
There are way more people that know about spawn chunks AND any other method of chunk loading than ones who only know about spawn chunks. By making this video you've actually made more people aware of other chunk loading methods thereby reducing the impact of this update lol.
Imo the spawn chunks were esoteric to begin with and removing them has such a negligible impact compared to the gain in performance for those who don't care about chunk loading.
I feel like they should always include a way to turn on spawn chunks by a command/gamerule even if it is default off but I guess there are alternatives to keeping chunks loaded
Waxed Lightly Weathered Cut Copper Lightning Rod
6:14 it's not reversed, binary may be little-endian (similar to the indo-arabic positional decimal number system we're all familiar with) or big-endian (like it is with shelves)
Wow the backwards binary thing with the shelves is cool
So, I think toggle clicking is unappreciated. Of course, chests and other UI opening blacks need a failsafe, but toggle clicking is big! Right click for fishing farms is big. Left click for strip mining is big. Im sure that there will be more Afk applications soon. This will make skyblock way less tedious, lol.
they added copper horse armor, but they STILL hadnt added netherite horse armor
Um….i use my spawn chunks for some important farms that i use all the time. I dont like that spawn chunks are gone, it keeps people who arent redstone geniouses from being able to have farms that are always on…
I like the removal of spawn chunks
6:10 6 7
Pheonix why did u skip the command that lets u still have force loaded chunks ??? Mojan literaly sed themself that redstones used it so they gave us a command to make them stay
5:40 Pheonix discovers big-endian vs little-endian
Did they fixed the oxidation of copper doors that is slower because it counts as two blocks next to each other ?
Hope they DONT patch enderpearl exploit too!~
with the new shelf… i think it's time
LET'S GO GAMBLING
Mojang is not mojanging anymore they microsofting 😢
I hate the spawn chunk change. I don't mess with chunky loaders in my realm with my gf and kid, I have them build farms there and I put the iron farm there for them
This ruins all of that and they're gonna hate it
Me with my BetterF3 in my modpack: 😮
i never understand why chests and other items cant be moved with a piston (java), like its too complicated, meanwhile a modder made them movable (Vanilla tweaks)
Toggle attack is HUGE for me, its so much more comfortable for extended bursts of mining im so excited
5:25 first thing i thought about is slot machines
6:11 – 6:14
"caked up creaking" ring a bell?
This shapshot had more things than the bee update
Wait wait so I don’t have a mouse hooked up to my laptop and just use the touchpad, and the touchpad doesn’t allow me to hold down a right click, so to eat things I’ve had to bind my placing-block key to the period or something. Does this new accessibility setting mean I can move it back? Or does it not affect eating?
Poeple who know enough about about spawn chunks to build technical farms there, can abolutely figure out how to use the forceload command to retain the functionality. This is fine. If you want to keep spawn chunks you have an option. For everybody else, it's a performance boost. Win win.
I'm not really upset by spawn chunk removal. While obviously it's not convenient for some players, the adaptation will happen quickly, and honestly I think most average players build their farms close to wherever they choose to settle, regardless of its distance to spawn. But there's actually another benefit I don't see many people catching: passive mob (re)spawning will be improved for Java edition. I certainly understand why anyone who has invested a lot of work in their spawn would be frustrated, but I also think by the time we are 6-12 months down the road this will be largely forgotten by most of the community.
I'd be okay with this if they added chunk loaders. Removing core useful functionality and not including a replacement is yikes.
I wonder if they will add a more accessible way for the general player base to create chunk loaders. Most of my friends don’t even know what they are.
5:30 Rip my banner slot machine.
weird that it does 3 bit binary and in reverse order, but cool
pack it up mojang we know you are in the list
Soo, when will copper blocks be useable for making beacon pyramids? 😛
Of course an update while at vacation 🙄
holy shit the shelves are binary
Even in my 30s holding the button down got painful. In my 40s I'm using the Windows accessibility feature for holding the button, so that option is wonderful.
wait so spawn chunks are just…gone?? like how do farms even work now, do u have to like sit there the whole time or what lmao… also why tf did they add copper golems if they're buggy?? mojang be wildin 🫠
wow that's so shit
not binary in reverse, its just in big endian format, look it up.
love the shelves and f3, anything else from this snapshot i dislike or dont care
You know as long as modding exist, I don't care what they remove. Modders put it back. There are people hating on modding, let them hate. I'm playing minecraft forever in vanilla form, I'm veteran. I need something new, modding kinda extend the life of minecraft for me. Back in 2017 I'm already getting bored of the game until 1.12 update which gives me hope and all the mods I still like is in it. So I'd say yeah, as long as they don't nuked the modding scene, I don't care. I stopped caring about mojang. Seriously, those mob selection they put was all added by mod. I will never rely on the official update anymore. I'm getting old, I just want to have fun and by modding the game, the fun extend it's life.
So now I HAVE to watch my ores smelt? This is some BS, Mojang.
finally the game has auto-sorting… I've waited for this for a long time
if they remove spawn chunks from bedrock they need to give us viable chunk loaders in return.
Now we finally got permanently on-screen coords in Java as well!
Free Palestine
Mojang has* removed spawn chunks!
Im gonna be waxing my rod till i lightning
I have major wrist issues so that mining toggling is SO appreciated, I've been wishing for this for so long
