The 10 Stages of Every Melee Player in Terraria

[Music] stage one begins the journey of the future melee main and kicks off just like any other class with a copper shortsord You can’t spawn in as a class in Terraria so every new character is a blank slate They start off as clueless as this is likely their first ever playthrough and as any other player would starts to chop down some trees However once that first slime hops on over they instinctively reach for a way to defend themselves and get their first taste of the melee class [Applause] After they place down a workbench they’ll notice there’s a variety of wooden tools to pick from A broadsword bow and fishing rod Then with their shiny new weapon on hand the future melee man ventures into the underground wanting to explore this new exciting world Downhill will quickly find a replacement to their weapon likely a spear mace or boomerang They’ll also probably find weapons used by other classes but show little interest in them due to the matter or ammo requirements Wand of Sparking This thing sucks I don’t want to have to worry about whatever that is when I can just use this thing I found instead At this point the melee main has got a little more adjusted to close-range combat They’ve explored the world a little more and after buffing their health with life crystals found underground have come across their first real hurdle the eye of Cthulhu Uh just asking right Does anyone else hear that They’ll probably get past the eye with the gear they already have as long as they have a platform to stand on Once they win they’re now on the cusp of locking themselves into melee for quite some time With the crimain or demonite ore that the eye drops the melee main can replace their starter weapon with something more substantial either the lights bane or blood butcher These introduce the first secondary effects that melee strikes can offer A second hit and bleed debuff respectively However although powerful these weapons are still restricted to staying incredibly close to their target So the melee main might find themselves struggling on tanky or projectile-based enemies I’ve got this handled It’s all under control baby Okay maybe not Maybe not Maybe not Get me out of here Go At this point the melee main has a very sound understanding on how their class is played Go in for some hits back off when the enemies get scary and repeat The high damage forgiving defense and aggressive play style start to get very addictive for the melee main all the bright colors and loud hit sounds bringing them immense pleasure On top of that they’re starting to improve a bit in close quarters combat They’ve now defeated their world’s evil boss and crafted the respective armor set both of which are incredibly useful for their class However this doesn’t mean they’re locked into melee quite yet cuz the weapons from alternative classes start getting good around this time like the Vilethorn Undertaker or Vampire Frog staff becoming very easily accessible The melee main will certainly experiment with these sorts of weapons or even pair them up with their primary damage dealer to create some powerful synergies but more often than not will stick with something melee related as their primary due to the linear nature of progression Keep in mind that some weapon upgrades for other classes can be completely missed without having the wiki open which for a new player isn’t always a given Oh man I can summon a bird to attack my enemies but it seems kind of weak I guess I’ll keep it up for some extra damage Yes finally after three plot moons I can finally make this class viable After the amount of success I’ve had by face tanking the melee maid may struggle against more complex enemies This causes their first proper decision as this class paying attention to their armor set accessories and even swapping between weapons situationally other than using whatever has the most damage This goes the same for reforges which I’ll soon understand are a crucial part of their class Plus four defense Oh my god I won’t even have to fight bosses anymore With these discoveries under their belt the Melee Man is having the time of their life As far as they’re concerned putting much thought into dodging isn’t necessary as the damage output they have is well adequate to defeat most enemies in their way But once they defeat the wall of flesh things can become frustrating very quickly The lack of range on weapons can still feel jarring as well as the linear sword upgrades being lackluster Come on Come on I mean I got this from the wall This should be a good sword right What the hell To try and help with this the melee main tries out other classes and gears up However while this might push them past a boss or two that they were struggling on they likely won’t have the proper gear nor patience with their new class to convert to it fully This is where most melee mains will generally end up taking a break or quit the game entirely The enemies hitting harder than ever paired with bosses that require actual prep time can burn them out really really quickly That’s it dude I’m done with this game I’m going to go play Minecraft instead Is this really what the future holds for me Just collecting resources for my minions in Sky Block You know at a time I was having fun in Terraria but I just don’t think I’m cut out for the melee class Maybe Maybe I need to go back No No This is all wrong I do need to go back I can’t play this anymore At this point the melee main can’t treat their playthrough like a big boss rush anymore They’ve been forced into developing patience something which every other class has had since like the eye of Cthulhu During this period the melee main will start to appreciate the little things in Terraria outside of combat like building some proper houses for the horribly neglected NPCs checking out other features the game has to offer and maybe even revisiting previously defeated bosses to try and hone their skills For many this is where Terraria hits its peak enjoyability factor Progression isn’t treated as a to-do list anymore and instead ends up being a much more fleshed out experience While the melee man has been stopping to smell the roses there comes a time where they get that fiery urge to hit something really hard Once they’re ready to start checking off bosses again they find it to be much more rewarding to prep beforehand Building arenas placing campfires or heart lanterns if they haven’t already and using buffs So many of my friends shrug off buffs if they’re new but guys please stack some buffs up It trivializes the game I beg of you This new approach to combat creates an environment where the melee man can truly thrive easily clearing the remaining mid hard mode bosses if they haven’t already Once defeated the melee main can now get their hands on first turtle armor then beetle armor Some of the best gear they’ll be getting all throughout the playthrough Now they’ve reached true novana able to return to the face tanking method they so adored in the first few hours of the game [Music] Now at the tail end of their playthrough the melee main has their goal as the only thing on their mind They can’t get it out of their head checking the wiki for tips and crafting recipes consuming Terraria videos online and talking with their friends about their run if um if they have any friends Although they’ve learned a lot from the shortcomings of their class this doesn’t mean they can best every enemy The Empress of Light and Duke Fishron are a great testament to this because trying to tank their hits will not work As the timeless saying goes you can’t teach an old dog new tricks And much like a dog melee mains are ridiculously stubborn So they’ll be stuck on these bosses for quite some time Both the Duke and Empress hit like a truck But granted they adapt rather than regress they’ll be light work for the patient melee main Wa Let me try these bad boys on The melee main commits to closing the skill gap and after putting in their best efforts end up successfully taking down any obstacle in their path This all culminates in their final battle with the moon lord which they attempt with a variety of extremely powerful weapons from the solar pillar They likely won’t take them down on their first try or the second try but with a bit of patience the melee man can finally finish the job closing this chapter in their initial adventure of many The experienced Melee Man is now presented with a decision end their journey here or choose to move on to the next world gifted with the knowledge they’ve gathered from all of this They might also develop interest in modern experiences creating new and oftentimes excruciating challenges to best with a whole new arsenal of gear Man Moon Lord was hard but now I feel like I can do anything Wait what’s that music [Music] This is where things melee main get turned upside down Unlike any other class the melee play style is fully reliant on staying nice and close to their enemies This is a big problem when every enemy does triple damage in master mode or they end up summoning a boss with attack patterns that look like this This is what makes or breaks a melee main When room for error is reduced and defensive stance become less and less effective a transformation begins You’ve got to remember that the melee class is very very forgiving to taking damage whereas the other classes at this point have had it drilled into them that even just getting hit once is a big no no So this is the turning point If the Melee Man can persevere throughout their journey reapply the skills that got them there in the first place and keep adapting their aggressive play style to even more aggressive enemies they’ll find themselves as a true master of one of the most powerful classes in all of Terraria [Music] I will let you destroy my world Heat [Applause] Heat [Music]

In this video, I talk about the 10 stages melee players from Terraria experience to master their class, beat bosses, beat master mode, and how they play modded terraria like the Calamity Mod or Infernum Mod.

Please comment what you thought of the video, it helps me improve & grows the channel 🙂

The newbie-friendly melee class isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. You’d be surprised at how deep this rabbit hole can go…

  1. Ngl, I think the most unrealistic part of this is sticking to a single class at the start. X)

Okay, the prep thing IS realistic. I'd worked my way up to the mech bosses with minimal prep, and I was actually forced to learn when fighting the Duke.

  2. The 10 Stages of Every Mage Player in Terraria:

Stage 1: Grind for a Demon Scythe during pre-hardmode, given that it's the only viable pre-hardmode mage weapon
    Stage 2: pain
    Stage 3: pain
    Stage 4: pain
    Stage 5: pain
    Stage 6: pain
    Stage 7: pain
    Stage 8: pain
    Stage 9: pain
Stage 10: switch to melee, because you can do the exact same thing as a mage but deal good damage and without needing mana

  3. Melee class: starts with a very basic stabby-pokey-hole sword. Nothing special, nothing fancy, but it works well enough.
Also melee class: quickly evolves into a magic ranger that doesn't require ammo or mana.

  4. I remember my first play through of terraria was on the switch and I remember one day I was in the corruption and I wanted to summon the eater of worlds and the only way I knew how to summon him was via worm food. And I though rotten chunks was worm food so I got prepared and said let’s do this. I pressed zr on my controller aaaand, nothing happened. Only until after I searched how to summon eater of worlds on the wiki i learned that worm food is used to craft rotten chunks

  5. As a former melee main myself, I would attest this is very accurate to the chad melee experience. I still come back to the class once and awhile to experience the bliss and power of it. But I must say, summoner is way more enjoyable for me. Funy fwog 🙂
