Can You Beat Terraria With ONLY SHORT SWORDS? (Part 1)

There’s uh there there’s no way we’re going to do this, right? Are we are we actually doing this? Hey, what’s up gamers and welcome back to another YV challenge. In today’s challenge, we will be attempting to beat Terraria with only short swords without any quality of life mods or mods in general aside from two very critical ones. We’ll be using the World of Shortswords mod, which adds more short swords because there are none in hard mode and recipe browser. So, basically a vanilla playthrough. So, you can go ahead and quit writing that comment about this being a bad video since it’s modded unless you want to look like an idiot. The rules for this challenge will be simple. Short swords only. If any sword is kind of overpowered, it’s not my fault. So, don’t blame me, but I will try to balance it out somehow. So, with all of that said and done, let us get right into it. [Music] You already know how these playthroughs start. We chop some wood and explore a cave in hopes of getting some better loot. The uh loot leaves a lot to be desired. As usual, our goal, aside from getting midass gear, would be to make our first modded weapon, the demonic shortsword, which does a whopping 60 damage a hit. However, it seems that we can’t help but run into every dart trap. Oh, wait. Did I say every? I meant the same one. I I Well, with all of that aside, at least we can make some progress now to our goal. We’re good. They made me run into the same goddamn trap. After being forced to collect resources with a weapon that has the range comparable to that of a stick and apparently balding at the age of 22, it’s got me a little concerned. Is this going to be the entire playthrough? Will I have to sit here and suffer through getting hit by every attack that comes my way? Or is there any sort of progression that we can make through this short sword challenge that’ll make it slightly tolerable? Well, there is one weapon that we can go for. However, acquiring it is a bit of a pickle. Allow me to introduce you to the short zed. Let me see what we need here to make this uh monstrosity. We’ll need a wooden shortsword, an enchanted shortsord, a royal sting that drops from the queen bee, a star shorts sword, a gardener that drops from planter, a short gourd which is dropped by the pumpkin, an influx particle dropped by the Martians, a fury of the sky dropped by the moon lord, a terra short sword which is made from a broken hero sword, a knight’s true calamity, and a true hollowed shortsord. The true hollowed shorts sword is just an upgraded version of a hollowed shortsord. And the knight’s true calamity is an upgrade from the knight’s calamity. And in order to make the night’s calamity, we need a demonic shortsord, a herbal shortsord, a bone shortsord, and a fiery shortsord. So, if it wasn’t obvious, this is going to take a lot of goddamn time. So, we continue waddling around our world, looting what we can, dying to anything with the pulse and experiencing every minor inconvenience as usual with these abysmal playthroughs, upgrading our gear slowly along the way, and getting ready for our first boss fight. We will be forced to run a full tank build because we are going to have to face tank everything in this playthrough thanks to the short range of our shortswords. So, every boss is going to likely put us in a meat grinder, which is honestly terrible news. At least things can’t get any worse, right? Hey, uh what was that noise? Huh? Would you look at that? They can in fact get worse. However, that’s a problem for another day. We’ve spent a lot of hours farming and grinding, and now we’re ready to take on the first boss of the playthrough, the Eye of Cthulhu. Take a step back, everybody. Let me show you how to handle an Eye of Cthulhu. Hey, Eye of Cthulhu. What? You should kill yourself now. What did I say, gentlemen? It’s that easy. [Music] With the eye of Cthulhu dead, we open up his goodie bag and rip out a warding shield of Cthulhu. And then we start to plan for our next grind. We already have one of the four swords needed for our next weapon, the Knight’s Calamity. The Knight’s Calamity needs the demonic, fiery, bone, and herbal shortswords to create. So, we’re going to go for the herbal shortsword next, but first, I wanted to get some reforges and accessory combinations out of the way. After blowing up some shadow orbs, we wait for a goblin army to arrive. And once they do, we butcher them all. Women and children included. to cook. While I was at it, I also sent Pinky back to the lobby and then made a wooden shortsword and used Pinkiey’s gel, some stars, and iron to create a star shorts sword. I didn’t really use this one because it was a bit OP, but it’s still needed for the short zenith, so it’s just going to sit in my inventory for a while. We head over to the jungle for materials to make that herbal shorts sword. So, we search for jungle forest, stingers, and a pair of ferro claws. Allow me to keep this jungle art quick for you guys. Drum roll. We get a boomstick, an anklet of the wind, die to a bunch of jungle mobs, some jungle spores, a cloud in a bottle, a fiberglass fishing rod, a pair of [ __ ] flower boots. We find the temple before finding ferro claws, and end up dying at the temple. We take a quick reforge break and accessory combining break. looking spiffy if I do say so myself. Gentlemen, we also craft that herbal shorts sword. And to no one’s surprise, it sucks. We get to spike up our anus. And after three hours of grinding, we finally find those ferro claws. Now it’s just time to put them to some good use. With all of our new gear acquired, we get to work on an arena for our next boss fight, the Eater of Worlds. We break a third shadow orb and summon the worm on in. This fight is dangerous as anytime the worm’s head hits us, we take a lot of damage. But due to our overgeearing and preparation, we are able to face tank the rest of the worm’s body segments without much trouble. Only taking about one damage per hit tick from them. We are quite literally straight up bouncing on it. We continue to chip the worm down until eventually he breaks up into more segments, which does mean we have to dodge more because now there are even more wormheads that could shred our health bar. Even with our limited range, we have no shortage of damage, eventually cutting down the remaining worms of the Eater of Worlds and securing our epic victory royale. So, uh, as the kids would say, packwatch, you dumbass worm. After that epic victory, we make a nightmare pickaxe and a full set of shadow armor. We then reforge some of our items and start bombing down to hell to get to work on that hellstone bar grind. We’ll be making a full set of hellstone armor, hellstone tools, and a molten shortsword as our next weapon before we fight Skeletron. We descend into hell and snag a hell forge and start obliterating all of the hellstone in the vicinity. After spending an hour in hell and mining hundreds of hellstone orb blocks, we teleport back home and begin to craft up our new loadout. With our brand new loadout, we swing it over to the Goonjin and start preparing an arena for Skeletron. I’m not really sure how this fight will go considering we have the range of a disabled and starved child. But Skeletron’s hands are uh quite powerful. Once Skeletron has spawned, we kite him across our arena, trying to poke at his hands whenever we can, avoiding his head so we don’t get steamrolled and slowly whittle him down. Just like the demonic shortsord, the fiery shorts sword’s damage is absolutely off the charts. We just have to be extremely careful with its range, but we are getting by. See guys, it’s not about how long your sword is, it’s about how you use it. So, uh, ladies, did you hear that? It’s about the motion in the ocean, not about how long it is. Anyways, once both of Skeleletron’s hands are removed from his body, we work at chipping away his bone dome, avoiding the massacre of skulls that he shoots at us. Bro, I am convinced these are unfucking dodgeable. In our final run of Skeletron, our HP gets dangerously low, but we commit, showing our sheer determination to secure this win and prove to all women out there that size does not matter. One small leap for man and one giant leap for mankind. We catapult our way down the dungeon in search of a cobalt shield and some bones. With some luck, a key does eventually drop. And holy [ __ ] God is good. We need a total of 36 bones to create that bone shortsword. So, we depopulate the dungeon until we run into something beautiful. You can call me Excalibur because I think I just found my rock. Certified Y GGBS moment, everybody. You have great gangbang session moment in progress. We teleport home and make that bone shortsord and combine our cobalt shield with an obsidian skull, turning it into an obsidian shield. Shortly after, we gather all four of the swords that we’ve created so far in this journey. The bone shortsord, the fiery shorts sword, the herbal shortsord, and the demonic shortsord, and toss them all into a demon alter to finally create the night calamity. Man, this night’s calamity is so freaking cool. I wonder how it tastes. Huh. This tastes kind of funny. Oh, y that’s not just the night’s calamity. That’s my We use our new sword to go queen bee hunting so we can acquire that royal sting. After locating a hive, we craft some bottles of honey and shred the atoms off the queen bee’s skin. We repeat this process, atomizing Queen Bee until she decides to finally give us that royal sting, which will remain in my piggy bank for the rest of the playthrough, remaining cold and unloved because it sucks. So, Chattakus, let us negotiate. I opened up over 25 chests in my world looking for an aglet, and I didn’t get any. I’m pretty sure that was every single chest on the surface world. So, after, you know, getting hoed, I made a new world to go look for an aglet. I figured if I was going to get no looped on RNG, I would at least be able to keep going until I get it. So like, yeah. [Music] All right. Please be the Anku. Yes. [ __ ] finally. [Music] It’s time for the wall of flesh. The master mode wall of flesh can be summed up as absolutely terrifying. That is unless you’re using a sword that for some reason has the same damage of a postmech weapon. However, I was just unaware of how powerful this thing was. So, before you yell at me for not balancing this weapon somehow, don’t blame me. Blame the guy who made it. Either way, we absolutely annihilate the hungry. So much so that the spawns can’t even keep up with how fast that we kill them. The wall of flesh falls in just under two minutes, and the gates of hard mode have just been unlocked. Now, uh I know, I know, I get it. You might be thinking this playthrough was pretty easy up until this point, but that was just because it was early game. Hard mode is an absolute nightmare. What the [ __ ] am I supposed to do in this situation? I have no [ __ ] healing, nothing. I have killed 58 of these [ __ ] and I haven’t dropped the short cord. [Applause] Oh, you ugly stupid piece of [ __ ] So, I am going to be splitting this into two episodes. This one for pre-h hard mode and the next one for hard mode.
