Minecraft Signs just got a beautiful text update. (Copper Update)

See, I never know how to properly structure these snapshot videos because I feel like this is one of the coolest things in the game. Now, the ability for text components to render sprites in the game. I have a sign here rendering a cherry tree on fire lit by flint and steel. And what I might try to do for a 25w32A. We have a whole bunch of changes. Yeah, it’s a lot of shelves over there. The Minecraft movie meme thing still hasn’t died out, which is crazy. The official snapshot page for 25W32A features chicken jockey in a crate of copper bars. So, as you can see, if you search up torches, you have four different torches. Now, we have the regular torch, the soul torch, the redstone torch, and now we have a copper torch. Crafting a copper torch requires a regular torch recipe, which is this, and then above it, you got to place it above it, a copper nugget, and instantly the torch turns into a copper torch. Chemistry and action. Can’t place it on the side or or here or here. Got to be on the top, which means it is only doable on a crafting table. So, we have a copper torch. It functions the same way as a regular torch. Now, I will say I tried to compare this to the education edition green torch. This looks more green than that one. And also, consistent with the theme of this snapshot, basically all of this copper stuff, the chains, they’re all the same as the original counterparts. So, now we have the green torch, the the copper torch, RGB. All right. Nice. Next on our list, we have iron bars, but not iron. Copper bars. Copper bars that look exactly the same as iron bars, but it’s just it’s copper. It’s patina. For copper chains, we have the copper ingots in the middle and then nuggets on the top and bottom, which basically means the chain is now renamed to an iron chain. Now, because all of these types of chains, including the copper chain and the iron chain, are tagged as chains, it does not matter what type of chain you use to craft a hanging sign. You can use a waxed copper chain if you want. You can use an iron chain. It still make the exact same oak hanging sign here, which I think is a little bit odd simply because chains look like iron chains and not copper chains. So, where’d the copper go, Moyang? And for the lantern, we need a copper torch in the middle and then we surround it with copper nuggets. There’s our copper lantern. Green lantern is now in the game. All of this stuff oxidizes over time as well. So, random tick speed. We set this to like 10,000. You can see all of this stuff is oxidizing as expected. So, as it seems, there is quite the uh the obsession, the obsession with having all iron stuff have copper counterparts. So, that’s the copper update. So, I guess we can split this update or this drop into two sections. So, we have the copper stuff. We have the item sorting mechanism as well. The copper golem doesn’t have any listed fixes for their pathf finding. So, we’ll have to wait for that. However, shelves now look like this or they behave like this. We have some rows of them, some columns of them. I tried to make some variation with the items that they’re storing. However, you’ll notice that items and blocks now store on the bottom of the shelves, not in the middle. This appears to have split the community a little bit. People didn’t particularly warm to this idea. So now they’ll look like they’re on the bottom of the shelf where they’re like sitting on the ledge instead of being in the middle. So what they’ll look like if they’re on the side is they’ll sit in the middle of the ledge. blocks will be placed flush on the edge of the shelf and items will just stand upright somehow. During the live stream, I attempted to modify this behavior such that the item doesn’t just sit upright on the shelf, but tilts to the back. So, it looks like it’s leaning on the shelf rather than just sitting on its own, which then looks like this. So, you can see that the axelottle bucket leans onto the back now rather than looking like this. Now, obviously, this is a personal preference for some people. Some people don’t like it like this. Some people don’t like it like this either. I tend to think this works a lot better and it makes a lot of sense. However, the issue with the angle proposition is that it doesn’t apply correctly to all items in the game. Previously on this particular shelf, I had the fox spawn egg on it. Because the item is a little bit smaller, it sort of starts to float and it doesn’t lean correctly onto the back of the shelf. That’s because this texture is a little bit smaller than the axelottal bucket. However, you might notice that even with the current state, it doesn’t work either. So, it’s worth giving the developers some time to flesh out this concept. We’ll see what they come up with. That’s the shelves update. Now, I want to go back to this really cool thing that the people of Moyang have added. There is a new text component in the game for objects. Using the new object type, you can now cast atlases as text components. So, here I have an example for blocks. We’ve got block sunflower front. That’s what I use for the sun just over there. And if I do this, you can view the sunflower I’m now rendering on the screen as a title. Another example I will use is a simple one, stone. That’s a stone block. There are a lot of sprites you can access from in-game resources. The best ones here by far are blocks in GUI. So, they offer a lot of possibilities. The blocks atlas includes items as well. So, you can do item and there I’m now rendering a stick on the screen, sword like this, and even spawn eggs like fox spawn egg like that. If you want multiple of them on the screen, you can obviously just copy this and then do another one. Rabbit spawn egg. Now you’ve got two of them on the screen at the same time. F3s allows you to save all of the sprites into your screenshots folder. If you want quick and easy access to all of the name spaces paintings also work. So here is a painting of Dennis in the title. If you try a large one like sunset with the wrong resolution, that just gets squished together. So that’s not the greatest. Pretty sure Burning Skull is another one. There we go. GIS offers some interesting ones too. So widget, there’s checkbox selected, highlighted like that. Also things like toast tree, the tutorial tree. Here’s a right click mouse. There’s no left click, unfortunately. Hood heart full gives you the full heart. Here’s the food bar. Hot bar attack indicator progress or blood. And here’s your hot bar completely squished together. So plenty of different examples which explains how I’m able to do something like this, which is a cherry biome that I’ve just drawn together. We’ve got the sunflower that looks like the sun. We have blue concrete visualizing the blue sky space. Fireworks as a block texture. So animated textures are supported here. Flint steel item, crafting table side, cherry leaves, cherry log, pedals, and then grass block side. The interesting thing about the grass blocks here is that it does render correctly as a biome neutral thing. But grass block top requires the overlay. And that’s because grass block side overlay is its own thing. So bit of trivia for you. I’ll show the original here. I did tweet this out. This is the um this is when it wasn’t lit on fire. Now, one thing you’ll need to note is that if you want the color to show up, you have to dye the sign white. And that’s simply because by default, whatever you type inside a sign is rendered black text. If you want to see what happens if you make the text glow, that is what happens. It upscales the item and provides it as the glowing shadow. I really don’t know why it does that, but that’s the choice that they made. Something like fire does exactly the same thing. So, it just enlarges the texture. I wonder what happens if I do. Oh, that’s Oh, that’s cool. Here’s your diamond sword. And let’s make it purple. And now you have your amethyst sword, guys. Everything you guys ever wanted. They also, of course, would work withd. So, if you want to place them on your front page for your server, you sure can do that, which really showcases the potential of GUI sprites. With all of this in mind, I have now revisited my Minecraft in dialogue project from a couple of months ago. We have cobblestone here. We have a bunch of grass, some dandelions, and if I just press G, you can see the full structure of the house. It’s a bit clipped actually. Let me just go up. We can see the gradient, the slope of the terrain with the grass blocks. We have some dandelions here, cobblestone as the structure, grass blocks, dandelions, and then we have the brown blocks here cuz I cuz I have not differentiated between the oak log and the stairs here. But I really do love how I can now show the blocks instead of a color palette, which was one of the biggest limitations of this project from back then. But all in all, there’s a lot you can do here, and I’m going to try to see if I can make Minecraft playable in a sign. Don’t know how that’s going to go. The fact that I’m saying this in a video means one of you guys is probably going to do it. But that’s the snapshot. Thank you all so much for watching.
