Ultimate Guide to Obtain MAX “Luck” | Stardew Valley 1.6
In my quest to 100% Stardew Valley, I became a little bit obsessed with spreadsheets. And in my obsession, I came to wonder about the true nature of the luck stat. I had always found Stardew’s luck to be a bit confusing. And while I had utilized it plenty of times throughout my save, I never fully understood how it worked until now. Of course, there are tons of resources online covering this already. The Stardw Valley Wiki, Reddit threads, and YouTube videos. But I found the information online to be too scattered, sometimes adding to my confusion, which is more of a me problem, of course. But I I wanted to create my own document to make sense of it all. Today, I’ve compiled everything I’ve found out about the luck stat. Specifically, I’ll be focusing on how to get the maximum plus 13 luck in version 1.6 and how to best utilize luck and the desert festival for Skull Caverns runs. This includes verifying how much maximum luck can influence the spawn rates of treasure rooms so I can obtain more of those ever elusive auto peters. When I first started out in Stardew Valley, I had heard about how dedicated the player base could get when optimizing every aspect of their farm. This being with spreadsheets, keg sheds, casks in the player basement, farming schedules. Eventually, I fell into that habit as well. Sometimes to the detriment of my own enjoyment. Now, before we begin, I want to remind you that many of the following luck buffs are rare, with some being locked behind endgame content that may have spoilers if that’s something you care about. The luck stat is split into two categories: daily luck and player buffs. To summarize, daily luck is obtained from the TV buff and the special charm, while player luck buffs are from everything else: food, drinks, lucky rings, and blessings. All of these can positively affect mining, fishing, and miscellaneous mechanics in game, such as spinning slots in the casino, or encountering more treasure rooms. But if you want a full breakdown, I suggest scrolling through the wiki with its wealth of information will provide you more than anything I could summarize. The very obvious first luck buff is the TV buff. Depending on the mood of the spirits on a given day, you may receive positive, neutral, absolutely neutral, or negative effects to your daily luck stat. So, if the spirits are very happy and the TV looks like this image, you will have a maximum of plus 0.125 daily luck with the special charm. The special charm is the second and final daily luck stat, which is obtained by following the directions of secret note 20 to obtain a permanent increase of 0.025 daily luck. It’s relatively easy to obtain and requires you to exchange one rabbit’s foot for the special charm. If you get confused about Secret Note 20, you can always look up a guide on how to follow it. Exactly. Now, we’re going to talk about player luck buffs. Starting with the lucky ring adds plus one luck to your character. If you wear two of them, the effect is stackable, provides plus two luck in total, and you’ll be up all night to get lucky. You’ll need to have two separate rings, but each can be forged with another ring to have additional effects. In my case, my two rings have the following buffs shown on screen. To more easily obtain lucky rings, you want to have as high of luck value as possible and use your panning tool at the big site on Ginger Island. Though you can find a lucky ring by panning in any other body of water. Lasting 8 minutes and 24 seconds, magic croc candy is a highly coveted and scarce resource. Most importantly, it gives plus five luck to your character, being the largest buff you can rely on in game. It can be obtained from both mystery box types, from the raccoon wife shop for 20 gold mystery boxes, and through various other methods. This is easily the resource that I have the least of. So saving them and using them at the opportune moment is important. Ginger ale is made from one sugar, one ginger, requires you to unlock ginger island, and gives plus one luck. If you have cheese seasoning stored in your inventory or in an adjacent container and cook it at your house, it will be enhanced and provide the plus two luck that we desire. The statue of blessings is the second and final RNGbased luck bonus in the game. It is one of seven potential buffs, making it a difficult luck buff to get during the desert festival since the festival only lasts 3 days. To obtain the statue, you must achieve farming mastery. Rumpled fruit skin can be obtained at the start of the day from the chef in the desert festival. Picking rare fruit for plus three luck and uncomfortably hot sauce for plus one speed gives you the luck dish that lasts for seven whole minutes. There are other dishes you can choose depending on your goals. As long as you pick rare fruit in some other ingredient, you’ll be good to go. Of course, the most important non-luck-based item for Skull Caverns Desert Festival run would be staircases. Yes, they do have a use outside of trespassing into the dank depths of Mayor Lewis’s basement for his undergarments. You dirty thief. For the previous in-game year, I built up a crystalarium shed that pumped out hundreds of jades. Each Sunday, I visited the desert trader to trade one jade for one staircase. How will all of this apply to the skull cavern’s treasure rooms? In an ideal scenario where we get a very happy day with this TV icon, the plus one luck from the Statue of Blessings, and stock up on all other player luck buffs, we end up with 0.125 total daily luck and 13 total player luck from buffs. Time for some math. Hooray. Let us now assign the variable Y to the 0.125 daily luck value and the variable X to the + 13 luck buff value. If we plug these variables into the following equation, we get the theoretical max 15.2 25% chance of encountering a skull cavern’s treasure room per floor in Stardw Valley 1.6. This is a stark difference from the base 1% chance. Knowing this, I wanted to answer the following questions. Does the expected percentage of treasure room encounters accurately match what we’re going to see in game when we do a run? And just how much loot could I siphon out of one run? Also, why am I doing
This Stardew Valley 1.6 video luck guide covers everything you might need: how to get maximum luck, how to find all luck buffs, daily luck vs. player luck buffs, and Skull Caverns runs with maximum luck. Be warned of slight gameplay progression spoilers.
