There has been a long debate as to which game is better, but that’s not what I’m looking to answer today. Rather, we’ll be looking at why Minecraft has been more successful than Terraria.

WANT TO PLAY AAA GAMES ON YOUR POTATO OF A PC?
Affiliate Link: https://boosteroid.com/go/b/aCwLv
Boosteroid Game Library: https://cloud.boosteroid.com/dashboard

WHAT TO KNOW: Boosteroid lets you play games you own on the cloud. Boosteroid must own the rights to the video game on the right store, so you can own a game they have listed while owning it on the wrong store [ex: they have the game Control but only on Epic Game Store so if you own a Steam copy it won’t work. So check to make sure they have the games you want to play on the platform you like]. I test it myself and it’s performance was shockingly good.

  1. 10:47 the elder guardian and warden are NOT bosses they don’t even have boss bars and the warden is literally meant to be avoided like a natural disaster however you could argue the raids are a boss because of the bar but it’s more of a progress bar not a health bar

  2. Terraria didn't fail
It only has much lower sales
Terraria is packed with content and it's only vanilla not including mods
Terraria itself is great depending on your perspective
Minecraft is just a game with almost to none at gameplay
But you can create there very mind-blowing things like calculator,1:1 world replica and others
    Both games are great tbh

  3. Because minecraft is more popular then Terraria is because of one website… YouTube.

wihtout YouTube and the people that make over 1M videos in a day about minecraft, the game won't be as successful.

And also you can make your own mini show in minecraft like telling a real life story but in game or doing a role-playing series.

Meanwhile in terraria you don't really see those types of videos that can entertain different types of audience.

And most terraria videos are guide videos explaining how to get this item, or how to defeat this one boss.

And that's why terraria is not that popular because of YouTube.

  4. There's still one point people tend to overlook between the comparisons; and that's the online servers.

Contrast to Terraria, there are a lot of Minecraft servers capable of doing multiple things. From minigames, to outright being their own games, the popular Minecraft servers are filled with such things. You hardly see people talk about Terraria servers with custom minigames or rules, meanwhile you see people talk about Skywars, Factions, Survival Games, even copying gameplay from other games like CS or Smash throughout the game's lifespan. There's also modpacks but unlike those, going to a server with a vanilla client is way easier than setting up the mod loader, finding the modpack online, downloading all the files and dependencies, and then getting into the modded game. I'd even say that Terraria does a better job at this for mods and the like.

Most of the kids, especially back then, who gotten Minecraft most likely were introduced to it from a content creator doing such games in servers; not sure about nowadays as the content creation regarding server minigames and all that isn't as high now and most are just custom games in friend servers, and good ol' modpacks/adventure maps. Content about the game is what boosts it in the public eye after all.

The reason I think why most people who have Minecraft complain about it nowadays is most likely due to how those who got it back then not really for the vanilla survival who are now a bit grown up and stopped playing in those custom servers and such are starting to find how simple and flawed Minecraft survival is. They want more added into MC survival, when really, Survival mode is a side mode to MC in the first place where anything new block/item back then was mostly added for creativity rather than progression. They just tack on a method on how to get it in survival because it would be unfair if new blocks/items aren't obtainable without cheats.

BUT the complaints are understandable nowadays because Minecraft is recently starting to focus on the adventure aspect as well, hence all the new mobs and generations and stuff; yet I will say that they still have the "creativity" first mindset when it comes to the new features.

  5. i think that's why, when i play Minecraft, i pretty much only play certain modpacks like ftb skyblock; and the Terraria mods i play with feel more like an expansion of the game and less transforming core gameplay.

  6. I remember when I tried to get my dad into Terraria, he never really did because the character was too small (he's 51 and has a little trouble seeing up close), and the massive pool of weapons was overwhelming. That first point means that Minecraft naturally applies to at least a slightly larger audience. Like, a 90 year old can pick up Minecraft and have a lot of fun, but the very things that we young people praise Terraria for could actually put off the older demographic (and I don't just mean the perspective, I mean the difficulty as well). The second point is seriously valid for all players, which is why I think that Re-Logic should put a message in the character creation or something that recommends choosing a class of weapons and sticking to it.

Terraria is still objectively a better game on so many fronts, just throwing out a couple more possibilities.

  7. I feel like the most important difference is the 1st person perspective you talked about!

This perspective made youtubers more likely to use Minecraft for their roleplay => 1) these youtubers taught viewers what they can do to make "their own fun" in the game, 2) naturally this high youtube coverage gave Minecraft its initial boost and then ressurected the game over and over again

I'd argue terraria has a ton of things to do after you're finished, people just need influencers to spark that desire to continue

  8. I feel like Minecraft is like that reach CPR patient, who everyone gather around doing blood transfusions, electroshocks, injections. And the patient keeps paying
Whereas Terraria is like that healthy old person who's like "I think it's my time to go this year"…. "WAIT FIRST I GONNA RUN AN AROUND THE WORLD MARATHON" XD

  9. I feel like as someone who has played both games since I was a kid (with little siblings also trying to play) terraria definitely has that higher difficulty that you mentioned, making Minecraft more accessible to a much younger and therefore wider audience as well, you can puddle around in Minecraft with a very low skill level and still feel like you’re doing something. And the sandbox features definitely make it more possible to come at from all sorts of gaming interests, from building to coding to survival and exploring. I will agree with you on terraria being a better game personally as well though! I enjoy the progression features giving me clear goals and objectives, and the expansive content having tons of different routes and journeys. I am a pretty casual player too, only playing a few hours here and there. This is only my second play through attempt (almost up to moon lord) after my last (childhood) play through ending after I couldn’t beat fishron (I also think at the time moon lord also didn’t exist on mobile lol) . I really enjoy your content and found this video very interesting and insightful!

  10. what also makes Minecraft more popular is the advertisement and impact it has on social media (cough, cough, clickbait)
While the only terraria merch and advertisment the game actually has is up to the developers to decide, is not like minecraft where there's like a billion offbrand and bootleg products just based on minecraft
