A good candidate for a new boss in a Ocean Update is the Barnacle (aka "Monster of the Ocean Depths"), one of the proposed mobs at MINECON Earth 2017 (with the Phantom)
For me, it would be cool to see more ambient wildlife.
Song birds, butterflies, and little critters scurrying around on the ground. 🤠

We need crustaceans… boxer crabs, hermit crabs, giant spider crabs, decorator shrimp, pistol shrimp (maybe colonizing sea sponges?), and mantis shrimp… on the surface, maybe we could get regular crabs, the hermits in their little shells, and coconut crabs (add coconuts obviously).
With better unique loot for the monuments, putting colonized sponges throughout the warm ocean reef is no issue.
Just have the nautilus, or another new mob, eat the pistol shrimp… or feed them something to grow more sponges like little farmers that could be harvested while vacant.
Only a few would be somewhat hostile – maybe if you come close to their nest without a gift in the case of mantis shrimps and their tunnels through the sea floor, or if you are holding rotten meat in the case of the coconut crab (if you don't feed them within a few seconds, they pinch).
Pistol shrimp in sea sponges and anemones for the boxer crabs would add a degree of passive danger for exploring a reef, not to mention mobs that we can cooperate with for benefit like the dolphins.
Think self sufficient, dynamic, and player interactive.
Passive-hostile mobs in an ocean should have some form of mutual interaction that could either farm a specific resource or be used to breed that specific mob (both?). It would make the aquarium, or the aquatic base, an extremely desirable place. If larger fish and new hostile mobs were also added, it would be its own living world, like a real ocean.
The only thing it would be missing is making some new deep ocean biome (creepy glowing angler fish and stuff), and some nasty mythical hostile arthropods to make that one enchantment actually useful!

Now, they are teasing the Update Aquatic 2, which means the End update is coming next, beacuse its the only other dimension in the game

Do you think the smiling creeper (before you zoom in on the bulletin board) means anything? There are other notes like “why can’t we hug a creeper” and “remember everything that frowns and smiles” maybe they’ll make a way to convert a creeper from hostile to friendly or make water creepers?

As one of the whole three people who uses Conduits, I can't believe you'd call me out like this.
Tbh I’d rather have an oasis update. Palm trees/coconuts and reeds etc. I also want dragonflies as small atmospheric effects rather than a big mob.
It would be cool if minecraft added jellyfish,
They can be similar to tropicalfish, having lots of various patterns and colors, great for ambient visuals for builders,and they can be collected with buckets.
Again the Door is just the 3D model from Vanillatweaks which is very commonly used.
Honestly kinda tired of copper being such a central focus in so many recent updates. It’s like half the blocks in the world now are copper-related. Let the copper be as it is and address issues in the game and add things people actually have been asking for for so long

If we are gonna get another ocean update, I’d like to see deeper ocean biomes. Especially since the world height is so much deeper now. And if they do that they should make it to where it’s pitch black past the deepslate line, mirroring irl oceans where light can’t penetrate after a certain point. It would effectively make the oceans an end game area where they can put a ton of crazy loot for those willing to explore it. They could also potentially give copper armor an extra use by giving it an upgrade akin to netherite for diamond that lets you breathe for longer and see underwater far easier. Perhaps making the upgrade tablet an Elder Guardian drop.
Personally, I would love to see all of the mobs put in the game at the same time. They can call it the zoo update.
