  1. Actually valid list. Playing different melee subclasses was so much fun for me too. Mage and summoner are both fun, but nowhere near melee. Ranger is just meh.

  2. I recently started a summoner play through and the new whips make it a great class, hard to progress at the start but after brain of cythulu it’s great, reforged all my stuff to warding it armored (defense reforged are insanely op early game even in masters) now I’m a walking tank with a melee whip and 4 demons flying over my head shooting fire balls

  3. Melee and summoner are my top two.
Summoner when im playing modern terraria and then melee when im playing an old version.
When i play melee its just swords, i tried out yoyos and flails and spears but none of them were nearly as fun (you actually have to aim and think)
And then as summoner you just have a bunch of dudes protecting you while you fish or build or mine or whatever. And whips are basically just a melee weapon with summon damage so hell yeah.
Mage and ranger are both in the same boat as yoyos, id rather just hold the attack button and destroy everything than have to actually think lmao.
I love being mostly braindead while i play, its what makes terraria so enjoyable for me.

  4. I mean rangers have bows rapid-fire guns shotguns rocket launchers and interesting and different ammo and arrow types. If you want variety it is but yeah we mostly play with rapid-fire chlorophyte bullets so I guess u have a point

  5. Melee: BY FAR the strongest class in the game. It's a super fun and unique class until the mech bosses. After the mech bosses, it basically becomes a stronger version of the mage

Ranged: The easiest class to play in the entire game. The weapons are really similar to each other, you have really good range since the very start of the game. You also have decent defence. The ranged is pretty good at almost everything, especially at crowd control

Mage: In my opinion the weakest class in the game. The more you progress into the game, the weaker you become compared to other classes. The lack of defense and single target DPS makes it pretty weak compared to the other classes.

Summoner: The most skilled class in the game. It's the best class for exploring, building and doing any activity that is not fighting a boss, since the pets can kill everything for you. But against bosses, you have to stay really close to them to deal damage, and against some bosses like the Twins, the Empress and Duke, that can be pretty difficult since you have the defense of a puppy. Also, it's by far the worst class pre-evil bosses, since you have to use the fucking Flinx coat and the Vampire Frog staff (If you are lucky enough to get a blood moon, otherwise you gotta use the Flinx staff 😭🙏)

Overall, my favourite class is the Summoner, but I really enjoy every class in the game (Except for the mage)

  6. Summoner is the best. Sure, it's boring to run around and let the minions do their job, but the true strength of summoner lies in the summon tag damage of whips, which become exponentially stronger with whip stacking. Summoner has the lowest defence out of all classes, but if you take the risk and get up close and personal, use whips stacking to get multiple summon tags on a boss, you would see the health bar get absolutely melted away. High risk, high reward type shit. Summoner will always be my favourite because of the in-depth strategies with different whip synergies with different minions, and the blood-pumping close range combat, which is funnily more "melee" than the melee class. Also, not having to deal with stray mobs while building is always a great bonus

  7. Mage of course. Melee gameplay be like crafting meta projectile based sword and hold lmb to win. You have like 999 armor, accessories to increase your armor even more and NO penalty of using weapons as much time as you want. Basic spam. Typically melee weapon have close range projectile and the flying away one, so you are in safe on any distance and knockback only secures this.
Mage more balanced and thus interested to play, it forces to think in some situations, forces to move to pick some mana stars dropped by enemies or stop using weapon to refresh mana points. And the weapons itself have different attack pattern, mana consuming, attack speed and you sometimes cannot use one weapon in the mid air but it is a good to use underground because of walls and projectiles bouncing. Melee class is pretty easy to play, but no fun when you done it few times. You are invulnerable.
