Honestly nobody wants to make different houses for everyone, ye you can fast travel and have cheaper prices, but after entering hardmode alot of people are willing to do the crystal dupe glitch.
Also, instead of going to the goblin tinkerer to reforge things if the item you’re trying to regorge is craftable you can just shimmer it and recraft it until you get the reforge you want
make house on surface mushroom biome, make dryad live here, buy 9999 mushroom biome grass seeds, throw it into shimmer to obtain 9999 jungle grass seeds, turn it into green thread, and sell with profit of 20 gold coins, repeat
this requires: dryad mushroom biome on surface 1 platinum coin (can be less ofc but you will get smaller profit) and you need to find shimmer(it is on the side with jungle in underground/caverns)
One of my friends swears to this day that it doesnt save that much money. Even though ive showed him statistical proof that you can save 30-50% on items compared to the hotel tower.
The happiest the steampunker can be (to my knowledge) is in the desert with the cyborg and painter/princess, she loves the cyborg and likes the other 2, idk if the overcrowding unhappiness outweighs the extra liked nice tho

I made a nice little cage for my Goblin below the lava in hell at the bottom of my world after I went through 116 plat in one go trying to get a legendary zenith.
For reforging certain items like the Zenith, or Terra spark boots etc, you can drop them into the shimmer to uncraft them then recraft for a different reforge
build three or maybe 4 houses in the ice biome (super important that its the ice biome cuz thats underground, not snow which is surface) and put the goblin tinkerer, mechanic, and dye trader in those houses. since its underground, the goblin gets the biome happiness bonus, while the mechanic gets ice biome happiness, both get love bonuses for each other, and dye trader gives a like bonus to the goblin without taking any penalties to his own shop, making the goblin tinkerer be at max happiness with a high happiness mechanic (save on wiring) and no downside on the dye shop, although u might wanna hold onto ur strange plants until you pick a time to house him in the desert assuming his happiness gives u rarer dyes more easily
2 platinum for the clemtaminator isn’t that bad if you plan on spending enough time on the world to get rid of the corruption I’m sure the money is the least of your concerns

Fun fact you can literally earn an infinite amount of money just by abusing npc happiness (full tutorial on terrasteel's channel)

You can also just use the shimmer to craft the same weapon for free reforges since it (probably) has the same chance for reforges as the tinkerer

After I build my first real mansion that looks like a house, many npc live there now. And they're absolutely happy.
Use the hotel method to have them spawn in then spend some time making houses for them when they do

I know about happiness AND I do the old one's army for money
It's actually much more fulfilling to have your world filled out with different houses all over.
