The Problem With Terraria 2 is Harder Than You Think. In this deep-dive analysis, we break down why Terraria 2 will likely NEVER be made, or at least not in the way fans expect. It highlights the issues and what Terraria Otherworld and Mods have to do with it.

  1. I'm of split opinion on this, like most people I expect. Sure, I'd love to see a Terraria 2 built with the lessons learned by the development team and our many modders. Something that supports the modding community from the word go and better enables the dev team to create content for Terraria.
Of course, something like this is much more difficult than it sounds and will take quite a bit of capital to accomplish, I expect. Better to stick with Terraria 1 than to sell out to shareholders. Furthermore, development on something like that would necessitate largely stopping development on the original, which is a hard sell given that you have no idea how the sequel will fare once it's released.
Ultimately… yeah, Terraria 2 is the mods we installed along the way. At least that's my opinion! The modding community has made some absolutely amazing stuff, nearly as legendary as Terraria itself within the gaming space. It's really quite impressive what has been done, and I'd to see all of that lost.

  2. I think it makes sense to ship it as an update v2.0, not a new game.
Give mod makers time to transition to a new architecture.
And at first give people a choice between v2.0 and v1.9 for the sake of mods compatability.

  3. I would like a terraria 2/otherworld game. It could have a similar structure to terraria in terms of progression and equipment upgrades, but it could be improved with weapon diversity, particle simulation, optimisation, and maybe have a slightly different art style. I guess the main issue is that if it’s too similar to the first game, people might still prefer the first game, and if it’s too different from the first game, people might not like it at all

  4. why deos it have to be terraria 2, why dont just make a like upgraded edition that tries to be the original terraria as much as possible and comes whit the purchased of the normal terraria. the upgraded terraria edition would recieve dev focus at first but the normal terraria would still get attention too. different egine and code but same things being made for both version. perhaps whit bonus stuff for the upgraded version. they also could lean the upgraded terraria into a different direction but its still basicaly the same game. from there they could maybe consider a terraria 2 if they want to change major things about terraria.

  5. The most I can say is "Look at Overwatch, and then look at Overwatch 2". If they do a new game, it would need to be different from Terraria at a fundamental level (whether it's story or gameplay) to get people fully interested. If they make a sequel to Terraria that is just the previous game with exclusive things, that will most likely disappointment customers as they're paying for what essentially is the same game with content that could just be added to the first game. That's how I see it, at least.

  6. honestly i'd be happy with them completely moving it to a different engine. that way they can continue working on it 🙂

  7. I definitely wouldn’t mind a terraria 2 I bet I would love it as much as the original but if terraria 2 never comes out I’ll be fine with terraria probably because my favorite game of all time

  8. I really think that it is not that big of a deal, as we have android and ios perfect PC ports on different frameworks… Well, correct me if I am wrong. Porting is a complex task, but nothing compared to game creation

  9. I think Terraria 2 should be a different game with a new engine, better graphics and different approach. I hope if they ever release it, it will be a different game with fresh ideas. I mean, do you remember the official Terraria 2 map concept by Redigit? It feels very fresh while it still has the Terraria identity. Also remember the countless "Terraria 2 ideas" mentioned by the Redigit himself?

I think the fact that they mentioned Terraria 2 so many times is not a coincidence and apparently they have a different vision for this game. Most players don't understand what they're talking about when they want it to be just an update or an engine switch. We can't know for sure but there is a chance they're working on this game for some time already.

  10. I'd rather they not differ too much from the original content wise when making the sequel. The engine swap to make the game better overall will be gladly appreciated, though. The graphics are fine as they are

  11. Considering how Redigit and the Relogic crew treated Terraria: Otherworld, I seriously doubt they would release a sequel to Terraria without considering how the community would react.
I think that if/when they DO release a Terraria 2, they'll ensure that it meets the standards of the fans who played the original.
