I've got 3k+ hours in Terraria and I've never really used the Zenith (besides making it for the achievement). At the point you can make it the run is pretty much over.
Sickle is not a weapon. Axes and puckaxes also have melee damage but nobody say they are weapons Flare gun is also not a weapon because of SHIFT button (when you hold shift and aim at walls or nothing you will pick a flare gun like a torch or glow stick, that means flare gun is not a weapon but a light source) Zenith is actually useful for fast clearing goblins, pirates and other
Same way the sickle is a tool for 1 and a weapon second, so is the flare gun. Sure you can use it to do pitiful damage and inflict "on fire!" debuff but it's meant to be used for lighting, as that's so crucial in early game cave exploration
i'd argue the worst weapon is the tin shortsword first of all you spawn with a copper that's just as good meaning you need to collect tin in order to make a weapon thats as good as your starting weapon and worse then a wooden broadsword
Situationally, the Pearlwood sword is by far one of the worst weapons. You can't obtain it until hard mode. At that point, you already have weapons significantly better anyway so there's literally no reason to craft a Pearlwood sword. Ever.
sickle lowkey slept on. It's cheap and better than the wooden swords. If you're planing on collecting hay for any reason it can be a nice small upgrade at the very begging of the game

The ruler you buy from the goblin tinkerer is the absolute worst weapon

Sickle is actually good because you get it so early. It costs 50 silver from the merchant while being better than the silver broadsword

the suckle saved me early game because it was so good against the eyes
There's a guy who beat calamity using scythes only, and he used the sickle for the entirety of pre-hard mode, he even killed WOF with it
The lawn mower mogs every other “bad” weapon you can think of
Flare gun… You know why this thing is borderline busted… Especially for Empress of Light.
The flare gun can kinda be used as a holdable glowstick which is ok utility in early game if you dint have glowsticks
Flare gun shreds eater of worlds so if you get it and you have decent Armour you're set
The sickle is also great for fishing bait, but I suspect i'll get death threats just for mentioning it
People forget about the ruler being so absolutely awful
