Over 3 years ago, the most bizarre and inexplicable minecraft anomaly occurred on my server, and I still have yet to solve it…

$500 Bounty:
1. Recreate the same behaviour on my server, og-network.net (SMP or RPG-SMP).
2. Record a video doing it, or ping me on discord so I can see it in-game.

  1. I'm unsure if it was FartherViewDistance per se but I remember back in the day that there were some mentions of possible corruption to the world with some view distance plugin

  2. I think i got same or very similar bug (unloaded chunks that if i walk into would behave same way they did for players in this video, and im pretty usre only reloading world was solving this issue) when playing diffrent minecraft modpacks on old laptop, i just asssumed it might either be some common minecraft error or memory issue cause laptopt i used than didnt have nearly enough ram to run those modpacks

  3. Is it your server as in the shelf supporting your server is in your house “or” is it the case that the server hosting is a separate entity?

  4. I used to do this to servers in Beta minecraft, cant really remember how to do it because was back in 2012-2013.
Pretty sure it was just entity spam with infinity enchantment getting them to land on your head where they would get stuck in the air.
But ye this used to be a real issue and many minecraft beta servers experienced it, maybe not from someone exploiting but just beta being janky.
Also there was a way to corrupt the whole map file thus forcing the server to start a new map.
Map corruption was with getting creative some way then just spamming tnt minecarts with custom data in them with custom clients .throw command set to like 1000 and binded to place key then using fast place to spam millions of them and giving it a push. When the carts would collide with something whole server would die and kept dying every time the chunk with the carts was loaded.

  5. Just to confirm, we are allowed to "hack" on your server to reproduce this if this is a good faith attempt, and not us trying to cause any harm to other players – just to replicate it? I would like to get a more in depth confirmation before investing time in it and getting banned.

  6. This happens really often on my modded singleplayer worlds, which I attributed to extremely poor PC performance. Minecraft is a notorious game optimization-wise, so I just thought it was generally my PC being absolutely dirt-cheap.

This, is a server having a similar issue. But what I would like to bring attention to is the items and entities seemingly looping. While it does seem like the server's TPS isn't going down, that's a telltale sign of Minecraft stopping processing things. I believe the server decided everything next to the error was in an 'invalid position' or some other incorrect value, and it decided to stop processing everything, but there's a delay between the client and the server.

Minecraft has an internal server for the client, even in single-player worlds, which shuts down when you save and quit a world. I believe what's happening is that we're seeing some sort of server-side error from client-side perspective. Not unlike how Terraria technically has an instance for every player in multiplayer and has to synchronize it manually between everyone. If there's a synchronity error in that game, boss entities tend to exhibit different behaviors for each player..

  7. 1. You could have cross referenced the players between the two servers at the time of the exploit to identify the exploiters very easily.
    2. It’s not the plug-in you suspected causing the issue.
    3. The only evidence you have is the video of the arrows being fired.
Maybe compile a list of everything you have gathered. Screenshots, videos, server logs, suspected accomplices. It’ll be a lot easier than replying a video again and again.

I would say it’s some kind of dos exploit to continuously reload that chunk hence why the player are falling though and the elytra’s don’t slow down.

  8. bro you just told yourself it happened when there is a lot players .
i think you tested alone or few players .
i think bug will appear if many players in one place ( maybe even with different chunk renders )
and shooting arrows at specific places .
i can't repeat it because i am only one player

  9. Hm u should download the world then see if it has the chunk issue on singleplayer. And there are mods to regenrate chunks as if theyre brand new so you coud try (dont know mods name tho)

  10. The behavior looks a lot like the main server loop is stuck for some reason. That's why these entities don't move since projectile movement is predicted client side but they zap back if the server disagrees and that's why the elytra has unlimited flight. There used to be an exploit where you flipped a lever connected to a bunch of redstone with an autoclicker to basically halt the server and while the server was processing the lever flicks, similar stuff happened.

  11. you have an incorrectly placed lazy and unloaded chunk. try deleting or manually clearing data from the region file it is in, or regenerate the chunk. also give pushing a block into the unloaded chunk with a piston.

a lot of these same things happen in lazy chunks (items "redropping", arrows being stuck, etc) and the one empty chunk is unloaded.
