Hello fellow gamers,
A couple of weeks ago i realized i could start playing modded mc again, its been a while but university is dying down with the holidays and i had time to spare so i thought why not. Now that, that was my first mistake, my second mistake was to just throw some random mods together that i liked without and thought or mind.
so here be my tale but also i wanted to show off my old modded minecraft game 1.12.2 base. I learned a lot while designing and playing in this thing my time in this survival world has however come to a end. Altough i was in love with this base, but quite frankly the internals are a mess. hallways just come and go, weird rooms that were either extremely large or way to small, stairs were a afterthought and not made with modded pipes or wires in mind. all the while getting bothered by the zombie invasions, the paranormal ghosts, black wolfs eating my livestock and the worst of all…. the rats the godamm rats. I wrongfully tought the extra challenge would be cool and something to break up the building, by the gods i was so young and wrong back then. (about 5 weeks earlier give or take)
my strategy was as follows START UP foresty bees ASAP or otherwise i will never see the end of the game. then build up the framework and external walls with rather simple materials, and than upgrade the base and switchout the cheap early game materials when late game materials became avaible over time. However by the time i actually finished the externals walls i was rather relieved than excited to continue with the game. After my rather short but TEDIOUS time building this cursed object i decided to let it go….. my white wale.
anyways before i finally lose my sanity
some of things that i learned while building this goddam thing
1 if you play on playing in survival design should hold up the doctrine of fuction over form.
2 have dedicated stairsways on the flanks, close as poisble to the doors. or otherwise a dedicated stairway in the middle.
3 consider a 2×2 or 3×3 vertical transport pipe for conveyers or pipes in tall buildings.
4 go in the config and check out the options that some mods offer.
5 Biomes o' plenty looks really nice, but a lot of those biomes aren't a survival friendly and require some work before you can build in them. but you can also turned them off going in to the config, selecting biomes_ids.json and putting -1 for the number behind the biome.
example: "oasis": 100, becomes "oasis": -1,
6 those immersive engineering wires, are NOT isulated and hurt a lot :(.
7 atlought not necessarily uppopular the log framework with wall behind it fell out of favour for a reason.
Essentially its a 2 block thick wall on all sides so a building with a 7×7 frame has a 5×5 wall and a 3×3 workable space. meaning that the outside of the building looks as if it has a different scale than the insides.
And the frame is the detailing which leaves little room for other detailing leading to either large bland walls, way to many windows or features to compensate but fit in to the actually space of the structure.(leading to the earlier mention weird dimensions of the rooms inside).
8 make a actual choice of architectually style because i kept going rustic, victorian, no gothic, no medieval, no rustic again, no actually medieval, no wait yes rustic. and in the end it was a mess of nothing
9 lighting/ light lines, bassically in real life spatial development you have something called a light study to see how buildings will catch the light but also leave shadows troughout the year. altough in minecraft this isn't all that relevant, you can micmic this effect in minecraft (shaders) or with lesser extent in without shaders. IA a frontside with full on lights large windows etc for kitches, dinner rooms, sitting, botania kinda vibes. and a backside with lots of dramatic overhangs, leaves over the windows sunblockers for shadowy thaumcraft, kinda vibes.
after all that i might sound pissed, but for as long as it lasted i still sorta had fun, and im proud of what i have build, im just cursed.
i have to thank the minecraft youtuber Grian. back in the day when i still played on vanilla dutch minecraft survival/economy servers. i used to watch his how to build rustic houses as inspiration.
besides that i also have to thank the voices,
alright so that was my first post idk what reddiorts say these days. thanks for the updoots or something
i hope this posts finds you well because i'm certainly not. greetings, Yorribah
