  1. So this game is a little bit more than I expected. Which i guess is a good thing, it's probably better to be overwhelmed by a game rather than underwhelmed by it. I'm not sure this is a game i'll be keeping, but it certainly is one of the more surprising games I played.

  2. I found it was a fine game as a co-op objectve game, but it fails as a Stardew Valley game. It does not capture the essence of its source material as it is too hurried and brutal.

  3. I got this game a couple of years ago and still occasionally play and enjoy it. My biggest gripe is component quality relative to the price. Otherwise, brutal but satisfying loop.

  4. Spot on review, my kids were big fans of the game and bought it for me a few years back to play with them. I played it through solo twice with the intention of teaching them how to play but decided to not crush their enthusiasm for the video game by putting them through this, its brutal and unfair. I personally hate it, but havent told them. Its now languishing in storage and theyve forgotten about it, thankfully.

  5. The rulebook contradicts itself a bit on this one, but you cannot gift bug meat to villagers. It says you can gift them any resource that they don’t hate in the villager section, but on page 21 it makes clear that the red x on the tile means you can’t gift to villagers. I think it’s because these are not considered resources. Great video though! I love this game, but pretty sure a lot of that is my love of the video game. Even so I play it a couple times a year

  6. ☝️🤓 Erm actually, the town is called Pelican Town, which just so happens to be located within Stardew Valley.

But yeah, it's surprisingly intense for a game based on this ip! I ended up deciding to start the game with the community centre goals face up, which made it a lot more relaxing, and also took out the feels bad of flipping a goal near the end that you now don't have a hope of completing.

  7. I love the video game so when I was able to order the board game on it's second printing (once I discovered it existed), I jumped at it. This as a board game was a bit of a let down and I haven't played it in a year or so. I've mainly kept it because playing it still gives me nostalgia, as does looking at the box art on my shelf.
But it's unbalanced in places and some grandpa's goals are neat impossible at certain player counts. And to optomize turns as a multi-handed solo player, each person goes to one location and stays there most of the game. I introduced my sister and her boyfriend to this game and they were bored. He mined 90% of the game and my sister handled the farming. And because they don't play video games, I was a bad teacher at telling them what they should do to win, instead of letting them try stuff on their own. So I have learned with co-op game teaching to sit back and let players try, and come to me with questions or to ask advice if they have it. No one likes a bossy know it all in control of the game. But this is definitely a multi-handed solo game for me if I play it.

  8. For context, Stardew Valley is in my top 5 video games of all time, so I’m biased. But I really enjoy this game, I find it simply delightful and a solid challenge. There’s a lot of variety from game to game

  9. Recently started the video game with my wife and she loves it. I stumbled into the board game about 2 weeks ago. Perfect Christmas present, I thought. Then I saw reviews. This one confirms it. Given that she hates Robinson Crusoe's unforgiving nature, I think this game might turn Stardew Valley into a source of nightmares for her. Pity! House rules are surely one way to solve it though, perhaps even just removing the unfairly challenging goal cards.
