Mojang’s AI Bot has officially gone crazy.

*It seems like they haven’t updated the texture atlas since 1.20.

  2. I highly suspect the 18×18 is there because of technical reasons. It has to do with atlas packing, where a tiny numerical error that natural occurs during rendering can cause a non-desirable pixel sample to occur.
By adding an extra pixel border (16×16 becomes 18×18) it means that it should not be noticeable.

The command block you showed looks odd because it is rending all 18×18 pixels in a space designed for 16×16. In a rendering engine designed with the atlas in mind you’d get a 16×16 output from the 18×18 source.

  3. only thing i wonder about is people distributing the textures, particularly on sites like modrinth. mojang definitely would NOT like that

  4. 4:11 look at the textures, it's 18×18 because of a certain padding "solution"

cocoa beans, chest, crafting table, pumpkin, furnace, blast furnace, smooth stone, lamp, netherite block, pistons, the copper stuff, trial spawners, and more. you can see most of the padded textures by looking at the outer edges of the textures, larger outlines, and duplicated pixels
