I started playing recently in like 2024. I was just finding pixelated art games cuz i like those and I found stardew valley on a YouTube video then got it after 1 whole year(yes i forgot to buy😅)
I really liked the game slime rancher, but after a while I completed EVERYTHING and got bored. Soooo I had to find something else. Stardew seemed pretty cool, with some similarities but also new mechanics. So I got it and’ve been playing ever since :p
Played a harvest moon type game called Harvest Town but since it started needing to be played online I looked for alternatives and found Stardew Valley, SD was definitely better
My ex-girlfriend wanted me to get it on Switch so we could play together. We broke up in 2019 and I ended up not touching the game for a few years since it just reminded me of her. Eventually though, I bought it during one of the Steam winter sales, and fell completely in love with it when I started playing on my own. Sitting at 975 hours played as of today, so even if that relationship ended, at the very least I found my real true love :p
Okay so a few years ago maybe my freshman year of high school I wanted for Christmas Animal Crossing: New Horizons for our shared family Nintendo switch. The problem was we would all have to share one account according to my older brother. So he did some research and when I was presented with a video shaped game gift I was elated thinking I was getting Animal Crossing. Instead my brother had found a similar game and that game was none other than Stardew Valley. I was a little disappointed but a week later I was hooked on the masterpiece that is the game. Flash forward to today I’m now a college freshmen and I still have yet to play Animal Crossing and thanks to my brother I have a Stardew problem!
I needed a new fix since id already played all the harvest moon games. I looked up games like harvest moon on my tablet. It was 5 bucks so i asked my parents to buy it. I have been hooked since. Its been nearly 10 years since i dont remember when in 2016 it released. Ill leave it alone for a while and come back within several months. Its always like coming home
Only heard about it purly through word of mouth, never took the time to look it up so i never truely knew what it was like past the "farming sim" people described it as.
It wasnt until around 2020 when i saw it on console when i gave it a shot and i really enjoyed it, but i couldn't help but feel it would feel better on PC. A few years later when i upgraded from my potato laptop to a slightly less shit laptop when i got it on pc and the rest was history.
A couple years back an Xbox had it in an Airbnb so I played for an hour, and then about a year back I had gift card money left over and decided to retry it. Best decision ever
I grew up playing Harvest Moon on the GameCube and PlayStation. Played Rune Factory on the DS. Genuinely love those types of games. Friend of mine, who knew I love those types of games asked if I'd tried it. They wanted to give it a go, so we both got the game and very quickly fell in love with the game. We both play a mix of Stardew Valley and Coral Island, the latter being more often because it's cross platform and I no longer have a working computer. But we made our little stories and stuff about SV that we still write and doodle for cutesy little moments.
My younger cousins bought the game for me for my birthday. Mom played it after it got forgotten about for a while in the video game box. Then I went to play the Switch, and then I decided to play it. Now I have a few hundred hours in the game so far lol. :3 Safe to say I've watched too many Stardew Valley playthroughs heh.
Pretty sure I got it because my mom played it? Idk. My dad was obsessed with humble bundle & similar things, we had a shared family steam library, I’m guessing it came in a bundle one time and mom really liked it, but who knows
I heard about, never looked into it because most of the time the game was hyped up and overrated by a ytuber or streamer when the game got nothing to offer. Then I saw markiplier playing back in 2016, I watched like 10-15 minutes of video and got board. Years later, pewdiepie started to play it back in 2021 as livestream, I was so board, that I stayed, I didn’t understand why people like the game, until I stayed and watched the video, I got excited over a fishing game and that what sold me, it caused me to rewatch markiplier videos
I had a couple friends that wanted to play it after it was on sale. I didn’t think I’d like it but ended up playing a good amount. Great game I gotta finish the story eventually
My friend used to tell me everything about the game around 2023 , I paid no attention to it but then I heard that you could get a wife . So , yeah , been married to Haley ever since

I thought at the time that this is a mobile phone game…and its brilliant for the phone..you can play it with one finger!

I found stardew valley because i was looking for games thats similar to Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town and somehow i stumbled across it
The only reason why i found stardew was because the corn grows in Summer and they nearly have identical design to Harvest moon
My friend used to tell me everything about the game around 2023 , I paid no attention to it but then I heard that you could get a wife . So , yeah , been married to Haley ever since
My best friend let me play with her on her farm, and I became hooked nearly instantly
