I've been trying to get him to play Stardew for literal *years*. he plays games like fortnite, rocket League, gtav, and Helldivers and I play games like stardew, coral island, Ooblets, etc.
I thought he'd have fun with stardew, especially on a co-op farm with me, and I tried for a couple years to get him to try it. Not like pestering him, but when he would ask what I wanted to do that day I'd suggest stardew, and he'd say he didn't feel like playing that day, and that was the end of it. Well one day he finally "gave in" and we started up our farm.
He could only play for about an hour at a time before getting bored, I think he was really just humoring me so I'd stop asking. Then we made it to skull caverns and he died pretty quickly and wanted to be done with the game for a while.
We didn't play for another ~2 years after that. I'd ask if he wanted to, I'd suggest it when he looked bored, I'd remind him of his favorite part (fishing), but every time he'd say he wasn't feeling like it.
Until one day a few weeks ago, he turned to me out of the blue and said "want to play Stardew?"
I said "REALLY!??" and he said "sure" and I said "no really, are you serious!?!?!?" and he said "haha yes" and we went back and forth like that a few more times before picking up where we left off.
I kept waiting for him to say he was done but it never came, I actually tapped out that night before he did because I needed to eat.
After I ate he asked if I wanted to play some more and I eagerly agreed, thinking it would be the last time for another year or two.
But the next day we were both off work and once I settled down to play my other game, he shyly said "so ummm…do you ever wonder how our farm is doing?" (Which became his new way of asking if we could play stardew together)
One night we sat down to play and we needed some prismatic shards, he offhandedly said "I read that you can find them in the quarry" We sat in silence for a few minutes and I said "…when you said you read that, does that mean you were doing research 🤔🤔" and he said "…maybe…" Which I thought was adorable since he was so against playing at the beginning.
We played for another ~90 hours and are now in the end game of making money for the golden clock. It's the last thing (plus 2 recipes at the end of the season we're currently in) we need for true perfection. I've been asking him what he's gonna do when we finally beat it and told him about the other farm types, then I told him I think it's a lot more fun the second time around because you know what you need and you can work towards it early.
Which brings us to today. He's off work this week for his vacation and I texted him something and he replied. I texted him something else and he didn't respond for a couple hours. I wondered what he was doing and I checked our camera and in the very corner I could see his TV screen and y'all…HE WAS PLAYING ON HIS OWN FARM!!!!! He had started a new game because he couldn't wait for me to get home to play on our co-op farm!!!!
I got almost no work done the rest of the day because I was so excited to get home and watch him play. It's so funny to me to see some of the decisions he makes (for example he's currently putting all his chests side by side in a line, absolutely no organization whatsoever)
I asked if he wanted tips and he said no, so I'm letting him make his mistakes all on his own.
I actually feel justified watching him realize how much work I actually put in on our farm. He would always (jokingly) make fun of me for never doing anything for the farm while he ran off and fished all day, lol
**TL;DR**, spent years trying to get my bf to play Stardew, finally got him hooked, and now he's so hooked that I caught him playing his own farm while I was at work today 😂
