just make it so a customizable custom toggle will swap it from regular horizontal mode to vertical mode. craft one slab and you get both
and toggling only works for 1 slab, like you can have a regular slab on slot 1 and the same slab but vertical on slot 2
is this really that hard? (yes i had a vertical slab in my offhand lol)
custom ui/ux whatever, just add a toggle lol, as many other people have probably suggested, doesnt have to be fancy like what hytale does with the ghost block preview.

Do you think implementation difficulty is the reason we don’t have vertical slabs?
The conversation about vertical slabs has been going on since the original, pickaxe-mineable, fireproof slabs were introduced.
Your solution has been suggested. When they added rotatable logs it was discussed.
They don’t add vertical slabs because they don’t want to.
Why add a whole toggle system for just 1 block? And also there is no problem
yea saw this stuff on a heck ton of mods throughout the years. i think mojang can add it its not that wierd ngl. saw pheonixmc video and yea a sort of variety of the general minecraft mod wrench or a debug stick type thing would be good aswell.
Or they could just make a survival mode debug stick (a wrench or something) that only changes block orientation. This would also be a lifesaver in redstone builds that require lots of observers and droppers
Also, personally I’d also like to have vertical slabs that can also align to the middle of the block, kinda like the brick walls connect
