I think that the kids in this game having any function would be weird like they age but nothing else does i feel like more marriage activities would be much better. I’m just curious what everyone thinks about it

I genuinely think once they reach a certain age they should help around the farm. Pet the animals. Fill the water bowls

  2. Your spouse occasionally waters plants or fixes fences. No reason why the (grown) kids shouldn’t be doing chores. It breaks immersion for a farming sim.

I think it would be a pretty substantial undertaking, but seeing your child stuck in the toddler stage with essentially 0 personality is a little sad. Obviously, theu can’t grow up in to Jas and Vincent’s age without those two also growing up, but having them be able to speak just a little bit, receive gifts, and go outside and play with the big kids, would be very nice.

I would like kids to continue aging and growing, and I think having them feed some chickens would be one of many good ways to possibly it show that. They could also go to school with Penny

I really just want my child to feel more like a child npc. I want to be able to interact with them and give them food and gifts 🙁

I hate they’re stuck in the house and if you have no spouse they are completely alone.

  7. The kids should be able to be assigned chores. Like you could assign them to pet and feed the animals, water and plant crops, fix and maintain fences etc etc. Same with your spouse honestly. It would allow people to spend more time on the parts of the game they enjoy without everything else crumbling or stagnating.

It could be fun if the children could grow up and take iver the farm when we as the player die. But idk if thats not vanilla game hehe💖😂

I think it’s a hard balance. Additions could be cool or it could end up feeling off. But little things, like maybe they can sit on the porch if the spouse is not there that day? Or have item requests for sweets. Maybe a reward like drawing for the wall

it’s weird to have all these toy decorations for kids but no kids can interact with them, or the puzzle table but no kids sit at the table. Even if all the kids do with the toys is hold them and move them up and down then I think I’d be satisfied enough with that. Just do SOMETHING with these toys!

  11. Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life had this mechanic. They would grow up a bit and choose a future profession. I don’t think it went all the way to adulthood though, just 10 years.

I don’t want them to do things for me, and I’m fine with the age they grow to. I think if they got to Jas and Vincent age it would break immersion for me.

I just wish they could actually look more like you and your spouse/be randomized if adopted! I wish our spouse had more dialogue about them! I wish your spouses family would acknowledge your kids. I wanna see Vincent’s reaction to being an uncle, or Jodi and Kent’s to being grandparents! Maybe some events would be nice too.

I don’t need them to become farmhands but it’s kinda weird that they are less interactive than like the pets.

Many players end up playing the game for years, like reaching year 30 so having a option to make our kids age, sending them to school, college or if they want they could stay and help us in the farm would be cool to have.

I mean who wouldn’t want to send their kid to college and don’t have them worry about paying tuition.

But I guess if they age then we will have to age too and the villagers would do the same and I don’t think anyone is ready to see Linus grave…

I enjoy that they travel out to the events around the valley, I think it’s cute. But it would be nice to see them age a bit more and actually be able to talk to them

So how do kids work? They are just babies forever ? Do you have to take care of them or

  17. I think it would be great to have an option in the start file (like community center finish in a year guarantee) to have them function much like the baby in some school’s Life Skills classes.

  18. This is why I never even touch this mechanic when I play. To me marriage and having kids in this game are really strange and dead-ended.

  19. this is what i think too op. i understand why ppl feel weird about the current state of kids, but like if they were the only creatures who age i think that would be even weirder

  20. I wish they were like they are in Roots of Pacha. They grow and eventually go to school and learn trades that provide you with items like clothes from the sewing projects or food dishes that they are learning to cook in school.

  21. Historically, farmers had children because they were biological automatons who did the work on the farm.

That might be weird in Stardew Valley though.

they do nothing? they don’t age to like jas’s age & go to school with penny or age into an adult and marry someone else in town?

wtf is the point of them then? they just sit on the floor as deco?

im still pretty new and haven’t had a kid yet but this is pretty disappointing if they seriously do nothing. they should at least be helping around the farm when they age up like a real kid would do on a family farm.

  23. In Roots of Pacha, your children do age to maybe about preteen age. They have a couple milestones, like learning to walk and going to school. They even become an apprentice and learn a trade.

  24. I like the idea of them going to play with jazz and Vincent and the other kids I have mods for. That’s why I have the farmers children. I don’t care about the off timeline. It just feels sad that they are trapped inside all day without mods
