Terraria 1.4.5 actually made these useless items… OP? ─ More than just a visual effects!
Terraria 1.4.5 is supposed to be a Bigger and Boulder than ever! But I guess not everything is rock hard ─ there are soft things that got a soft changes for you to try out. Shimmer Gun shoots liquid, Water Gun shoots liquid… that puts out fire? 1.4.5 truly made useless items, useful.

I love how you can snuff out water candles with the water gun, but you can't snuff them out by fully submerging them in water.
Y'know, what's funny about water being able to stop a vampire from burning in the sunlight is that water, itself, supposedly has anti-vampiric properties in its own right in associated folklore.
The Love Potion also enables a special dialogue option that, when you or an affected NPC is within 10 tiles of a bed, plays a special animation and unlocks a new disheveled portrait until the start of the next day (or until shimmered, whichever comes sooner). Weird that it only affects opposite-gendered NPCs, though, unless you're in the "rainbow road" seed; and re-equipping all your gear after the fact can be a little bit tedious… but it's a great way to get the effect of an Enchanted Sundial prior to fishing up crates in Hardmode! </joke>
