Skyblock has a serious problem
To be clear, I’m not suggesting that you remove the ability to get items in new ways and be forced to fish. But there should be more thought/effort put into it instead of playing slime roulette – stuff like the water bucket and freeze bombs are great, creative additions! The 15th “slime with random block” is not.

Briefly reading the comments on this video, and I feel really disappointed, because I think people are missing the point.
Yes, true, Skyblock is, at its core, very tedious. Looking at MC's Skyblock- remember, that is what people are expecting going in, you spend a long time farming cobblestone and wood, so you can expand your island. You spend a lot of time AFK at mob grinders, because that's where some of the most important resources come from; it's how you're gonna get crops growing, it's how you get villagers, etc.
And, Terraria's official Skyblock has that. No one is denying that it accomplishes at least that much. It's not fun for most players, sure, but did anyone enjoy sitting at their Minecraft mob grinder for hours until they finally get a potato or carrot? That's not the fun part of the game, and it doesn't need to be.
The fun part was the solutions.
One of the very first things every player does in MC's skyblock, is make a cobblestone generator. I don't think it's a complicated puzzle, but the maps never just started you with one, they never had enemies spawn continuously that just gave you cobblestone.
Terraria just throws the stuff at you. It doesn't try to encourage the player to innovate, it doesn't even pretend to challenge the player.
And that is the part that feels dissatisfying.
Imagine if Minecraft just constantly threw zombies with diamond armour and tools at you, the skeletons drop cobblestone and obsidian for reasons, creepers always drop flint and steel. You get to the nether and the pigmen have netherite armour, the blazes drop end portal frames, endermen just give you eyes of ender outright. Pretend for sake of comparison that none of these enemies can hit you, because Terraria's slimes are incredibly easy to cheese, even from the beginning of the game.
The bosses just dropping the exact items you need for the next biome is lame too. It's not gently nudging the player in a favourable direction, there's no hint or suggestion. The game tells you what to do. "Here are 500 dungeon bricks, go build a dungeon."
It has some diagetic issues too, Plantera dropping an Ikea Jungle Temple doesn't feel like something from the game, it feels like ReLogic is stepping outside the bounds of the screen to talk to you directly, ignoring the presence of a fourth wall. "Here's what you need to do," ReLogic informs you, "you're going to go build a Jungle Temple with these bricks, and you're going to place the altar down. Don't worry if you mess up, you can always tear it down with this Picksaw"
The issue isn't that the incessant grinding is bad or boring, that was acknowledged to be a part of the experience. The issue isn't that slimes are used at all, because there are some problems that aren't realistically solveable under normal circumstances.
The issue is that the game is overzealous in trying to "help" you, it prepares the road for you, rather than preparing you for the road.
Well, it’s not the first time slimes enable a Terraria skyblock challenge, and thankfully this one doesn’t require a ton of luck and perfectly timed falls over the course of dozens of hours to try and get a few pieces of ore
Funniest part is guide still useless,.
So, not particularly different from fan-made skyblocks.
3:46 Just use new whip made from slime, It has far better range, It ignites enemies, Just give a chance to whip, Slime farming will be so much easier.
Skyblock Classic should be this method, but reworked abit cause holy fuck so many slimes.
Skyblock Revamped should just have one of island focused on something. An Island that is corruption/crimison, An Island with the Dungeon, An Island with a beach, a huge island in hell matching the size of Remix's spawn area, and so on. You can still have the slimes but the focus would be getting to these other islands–and god knows where they are all at.
Skyblock on Remix/Zenth should just be "NES Kid Icarus". You start in hell, climb to the overworld islands, and soar into the space where the temple and shimmer inside await. The Dungeon is split into 3 Dungeons, each one focused only on one background layer spawns; all acting as checkpoints on the climb upwards. tl;dr Dungeon of the Caverns, The Underground, The Overworld, and Temple in Space.
At this rate, Next Secret Seed is going to be "GelatinousFrenzy" and everything is made out of slime and only slime with modify drop
"Old man yells at Clouds (with land on it)" Ahh video
This was their chance to make the guide useful.
Give him hints and key pointers.
If someone doesn't progress in a certain number of days they could send a message to the chat suggesting you to talk to the guide.
People really simplifying Minecraft Skyblock as cobblestone generator or mob farm generator are being really disingenuous. Either you've never played it past the very beginning or you've never watched a full let's play of a skyblock series. You cannot in fact win with just a cobblestone generator or a zombie farm. You have to save zombie villagers, which requires you to use witches, and you need to make a zombie piglin farm for gold. Like there's so many steps to each solution that it's not just afk at the zombie farm. Watch ilmango's series or Smallant's series. If you need something brainrot and fast you can watch Martincitopants video on it. Also I keep seeing this argument about how Skyblock (Minecraft) is solved so there's no reason to play it, but the same is for Terraria especially when they hand you pretty much everything for free. Like why not in either game just play in creative if all you cared about was an empty world to build in?
the slime problem reminds me of the skyfactory 4 minecraft modpack. you start with a dirt tree. want stones? plant a stone tree. everything in the early game is just trees. there's a redstone tree, coal tree, lapis tree etc. my friend went a bit mad playing it, just muttering "sand gravel clay" to himself for an hour.
I think people are missing the point: skyblock isn't about beating the game. Its about going past that. Its about building your world from nothing. Build your own islands with different biomes, make what you wouldnt in a normal playthrough- instead of hating evil spread, you envy it because its the only way to progress. You only think its easy because your experienced. If this is someones first or even second playthrough, they would severely struggle. The game doesn't tell you that there are stone and wood slimes in the cavern layer, you actually have to "explore" all of the biomes for the specific item you want and then set up a farm for that item. That is what skyblock is meant to be. You asked why the shimmer is here, its not needed for the game. Go to minecraft, the OG skyblock, why is there cactus? you don't need that to beat the game. It's just fun. Stop taking everything so seriously. Terraria and its devs are great, dont take away from the fun. Because thats all it is- having fun in your favorite videogame.
Using For The Worthy makes for a slightly more interesting experience, as it removes the shimmer island, and some of the handholding.
Soo, I may have kinda made a combination of skyblock, for the worthy, the constant, and drunk world.
Does my world still have the shimmer or am I just stuck? I don't know where to get sand to make a bottle for the evil boss summon.
The current skyblock is fine, especially in the casual difficulty, but here’s how I wish it would’ve worked in higher difficulties:
In Expert mode, slimes with common materials that you can easily get through other means dirt and wood spawn less, with them not spawning in master mode. The slimes that have acorns, and grass seeds would still spawn, but would spawn very rarely, with your early game source of wood coming from zombies. Also, Jungle and Mushroom seeds would be sold by the Dryad.
Heart Crystal slimes can spawn, but would rarely drop the crystal, as killing one has a high chance of “shattering” it, since most of that slime’s health probably comes from it.
There’d be islands for the dungeon and the temple, though the ability to expand either would be locked into hard mode (dungeon bricks are made from hard mode ores from what I checked).
Rarely, Magma slimes with hellstone would spawn, letting you craft a hellforge at a demon alter, which would also need to be crafted with corruption/crimson ore, rotten flesh/vertebrae, and dark scales/tissue sample at a heavy workbench (or whatever it’s currently called) in ecto mist.
Finally, the Frost Legion would spawn naturally like the goblin army, and that’d be the prerequisite to get snow, as you could craft snow bombs afterwards. Snow slimes would get removed too. (Sand bombs would also exist, but to get sand, you’d need to shimmer glass, as it’s not very important to progression)
I want to believe it's this way so that the player is encouraged to build areas by themselves and be creative.. but relying on afk farms fucking sucks either way 💔
OK, this needs a few islands, it needs less slimes and some Challange restored. If they can't decide on it, make a 2nd skyblock mode.
I'd say one of each basic biome gets a tiny island, a micro dungeon and temple (in a random location hopefully). Encourage scouring every single space the map has to offer looking for them. The one big difference between Mc sky lock and this is the change in starting tempo. Mc is played right had zero spawn and hostility issues in the start of the game, however that is not the case for terraria. Also I agree that's too much spoon feeding and a few too many slimes, but I think the high drop rates are the real issue. Lower the drop rates enough and people will still appreciate every slime out of necessity 😅
Oh shit youre criticizing ReLogic's design decisions. Prepare for the mob.
thank you femboy
It's nearly as satifying to build a world from scratch than it is to blow it apart with dynamite
so the problem is that it's not a total time wasting timesink got it
I like to play Skyblock as a sort of tycoon gamemode where I build the world from the groundup.
honestly, this seems like a neat opportunity for mod devs to play around with the skyblock concept, and add-on to it with changes/fixes and new features.
I’m personally really enjoying skyblock so far BUT THE THING IS THAT ITS AGONIZING WAITING FOR EOC TO SPAWN💔💔💔I wish there were more islands beside the main and shimmer one where you could find a demon altar or SOMETHING waiting for eoc to spawn especially if you miss out on that chance of killing it is gonna be an absolute pain in the ass especially considering if you’re really REALLY unlucky,,,
with this update it feels like devs lost some sense of fun game design in them. its like this update was made by different person who didnt make terraria all the way when it started
my.. wierd problem is background is same as regular world. it will be cool that background has only clouds even if you go underground. Maybe hellfire clouds in hell?
I think they should just make a second skyblock seed where things are harder to get
