I was reading through this changelog on stream, and honestly, some of this stuff was so ridiculous that I just had to rant about it a little lol. I imagine a lot of this stuff will get tweaked – I hope, at least. It’s not like this update is terrible, and this video is meant more just as a bit of fun reading through stuff. The only changes that genuinely make me sad are rain not happening at the start of the game and crafting pulling from a 35 tile radius by default.

26:42 No it's worse. magic storage needed you to go out of your way to make it work.
I agree with most of what you just said about QOL but not the craft from chests thing. THAT is a good addition. I don't want to play inventory simulator, I want to play Terraria.
I totally agree that more melee buffs are crazy! I did a playthrough with a couple of friends as their first playthrough and they chose mage and ranger, but by the time we were ready for WoF everyone basically converted to melee because survivability and the Nights Edge are so good. Then when we hit hard mode every melee weapon seemed so much more appealing to them even after I showed some of the cooler mage and ranger weapons.
20:25 I disagree with this, pylons were horrible to deal with.
About all your complaints about the changes "letting people not use mechanics", this game has been about executing everything exactly how you want. It makes no sense to be mad about more options in a sandbox game.
I agree with most, but the chest crafting is actually a quality of life feature I've been wanting for a while. If you are really playing the game, you'll make an organised storage anyway, no? I don't get why this feature would make you stop thinking about the game, it just allows you to waste less time searching in chests for items, especially if you have a lot of them.
Lots of very valid complaints yeah. I personally like whip stacking being removed, though less now knowing that whips don't have any special reforges. Honestly one of the strongest reasons for it being removed in my head was that it would get Really strong with special whip reforges. I still like that it got removed, just a bit less now. Also the randomized whip swings suck. Who the hell was asking for Randomness to THE ENTIRE CLASS what???? I love the idea of making different whips attack different though that is a really fun idea.
The fact that melee got so buffed is pretty ludicrous. Not much to say there. It didn't need it. It was already very strong and argueably best especially for newer players.
Pylons being sold always is bad. I hate that. Also them being free to use always is just. Why???? I would much rather they make it very clear who likes who and where they want to be. It was fun building houses across the world and putting the NPCs where they liked! I was excited hearing that NPCs spawned without a house during the day, especially because it meant I didn't have to resort to prisons, and could focus on making nice houses where NPCs wanted. Aaaaaand now I don't have to worry.
The crafting menu is Good. I like the searching and whatnot. It was a bit of a mess in my opinion and very annoying for me to find what I wanted. HOWEVER, you have pulled me over to the side of being against the pulling from chests. 35 blocks is absolutely wild, and I do agree that it isn't really good. Personally, I hope that they reduce it significantly (maybe just so that only a couple chests can be pulled from. That way you still get encouraged to sort your chests and put the right ones near their most common crafter). That may be slightly biased from being a magic storage user, however I do think the best would just be heavily reducing the range.
All in all it does feel like the best stuff is that they added a bunch of seeds, and then decided to nerf Mediocre or stuff that was liked and then buff melee even more cause why not
I have constructive thoughts three things in this video.
1. In my playthrough, I noticed that Flinx spawns in the underground Ice biome, without any dirt or stone or similar around, were WAY up. To the point that while exploring it and setting up a pylon base there, I had more than enough Flinx Fur for
multiplestaves and coats if I wanted. If this is an undocumented change it may explain the cost increase on the staff's recipe, just most people don't notice because they tend not to go there in Pre-HM.2. The whole happiness thing comes from criticism that players need a wiki to understand that pylons exist. And there's enough blind playthroughs on Youtube to make that demonstrable fact. Most players under the previous mechanics would not discover pylons on their own, and typically forget all about the happiness mechanic by the time they have enough NPCs for it to matter. The consequences end up being what is functionally an NPC prison.
3. There's… things wrong with pylons during bosses yes, but the exploit you outlined was already present, enabled by Magic Mirror and Magic Conch, and/or in multiplayer, Wormhole potions (at least to an extent). Given that, the restrictions on pylons do seem strange, and I think with this understanding leaving it alone isn't a good idea. Shutting down all forms of teleportation during boss fights now, after all this time, would probably generate a lot more ire than anything else in the notes, so in that sense removing the restriction on pylons makes sense, even if we don't necessarily like it.
One million buffs to melee. Summoners lobotomy. Mage soft nerfed xdddd
I agree with most of what's said in this video, EXCEPT for the crafting ui and proximity chest change.
How exactly is looking through a menu "meaningfully engaging" vs typing it in a search bar? How exactly is chest sorting "meaningfully engaging"? Sorting chests is still nice to do anyways since being organized is useful in and of itself, but now it's not mandatory to search through 10+ chests trying to find that one random item you misplaced. I do understand the sentiment of people liking/being used to the old ui and wanting a way to switch it back, but the argument that the changes make the game less "engaging" makes no sense to me.
In the beastiary, you can look at the npcs and find what biomes they liked. I found it fun to make npcs happy, I remembered which npcs liked which. I completely agree with Sorbet Cafe. They made something easier when it was not even hard to begin with. Now the only reason to make npcs happy is for price decreases. (Sorry for poor English)
complaining about the chest change is crazy, magic storage is one of the most popular mods, that shows that this was an issue for a lot of people
Gladius: "Can now only have spear-type modifiers." What even is that. Also Mushroom summon is post evil yet weaker than Flinx ?
Considering that teleporters are prehardmode now, all the pylon changes did was give players a less tedious but more mechanically demanding method of getting around during boss fights and invasions.
I think this is an especially good change for invasions, since, unlike with random boss events, there's no way to keep goblin or pirate invasions from happening except by fighting them.
The change to hardmode ore mechanics is nice. Stoneskipping past the lower tier armors was already the most appealing strat, since you can do it while traversing the relatively safe hardmode hell biome. I think if they wanted to bring back a grindier hardmode ore mining experience, it'd be cool to add rare patches of hallowed ore that spawn around the border between the cavern and the depths, especially in the underground hallow/evil, as this could add an alternative to cheesing the Destroyer.
It definitely feels like Relogic is a bit out of touch with the balance of progression. Melee and Summoner were already really strong early game due to the Amazon and the Snapthorn being easily obtainable pre-boss. Similarly, Ranger can get access to guns and evil ore bows relatively easily, and even has access to the surprisingly strong evil wood bow plus frostflame arrows before even spelunking any dangerous biomes. Mage is the only class that needs to grind for any semblance of strong early game weapons.
I think melee gets buffed due to the ubiquitous complaints about how niche true melee is in the meta of the game, even though melee already gets access to a ton of viable medium range weapons at all points of progression between flails, yoyos, and boomerangs. It's a bit bizarre that bosses don't take extra damage from weapons with high knockback, except in cases like the EoW, the BoC, and the Destroyer. It's also bizarre that projectiles and melee both use the same defense stat, both for enemies and the player, when simply having separate defense stats would make it far easier to let the melee class actually fight in melee range, and would allow better differentiation between the Ranger and Mage classes.
Ty Ty. Very exciting
"wah wah everythings too convenient!!"
i agree with everything beside 2 things. that pylons should not be able to be used during invasions and boss fights, that is hella annoying and lowers the games fun. you should be able to. there are already other ways to teleport during a boss fight like the teleporters. as for second, having to sort chests and look through them to find s**t to craft what i want when the game has so many items is a dog***t tedious and fun ruining aspect of the game and now it's better. the game is unplayable to me without any kind of storage mod. now the game is finally at least somewhat playable without mods. still annoying tho as it's not fully like the mod. not every player is in the right place on the spectrum to enjoy sh***y tedious game mechanics. in fact majority are not. i think your takes on this one are objectively not the correct ones and i hope relogic don't listen on this one from you. vast majority don't like doing unnecessary tedious fun ruining tasks
Melee (Ranged)
Relogic: "its just qol bro"
Lets the game automatically play for you
… you die at the bottom of hell, gamers.
And if you're playing mediumcore all your supplies fall out of the world.
All of my shit is gone… I was just preparing to get back up gear after getting the hellstone pick and now I need to farm skeletron if I want my book of skulls back, and back into the dungeon for an aqua scepter (it's better than the demon scythe, fight me) And I either need to go into the jungle relatively naked (annoying, but fine) or already start using my supply of meteorite which I was hoping I wouldn't have to do until after the WOF.
Edit: I HAVE TO FISH FOR A NEW SET OF CELESTIAL CUFFS AND MY LIGHTNING BOOTS ARE GONE FUCK.
Mediumcore WASN'T bad, but now rare items can just ACTUALLY get deleted, fuck me… better get fishing…
how do you even beat the destroyer as ranger anymore now that both daedalus AND cursed darts are nerfed
You can despawn most bosses (except Deerclops) by quitting and rejoining
Ok, I am now ignoring anytime someone says that whip stacking had to be removed because of "balancing" because it doesn't seem like relogic cares that much when it comes to melee.
