I’ve had this idea floating around in my head in a while but haven’t gotten around to actually making it until last night. I would like to use this template/failed project (it’s too small for an embroidery hoop xD) to make customizable designs and sell them.
I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and I’m really bothered by the fact that every part of this design is centered, yet it does not look centered. I’m thinking that next time I make this one, I should ignore the true center and make the middle of the dog’s head the center.
So, let me ask: as a SDV fan, would you buy this? How much would you be willing to pay for it? And most importantly, does it look off-centered to you?
I would appreciate any feedback! Thank you 🙂

It looks super adorable! And I don’t think it looks that off-centered, to me at least.
Good job 🙂
It’s very cute!
I think if you want it to look more centered, you shouldn’t take the tail into account, and the pet should move left a few pixels.
It’s so cute!! I agree it’s off center. I would also make a little more room between the bottom text and the bottom of the dog. It looks like there’s more space between the top text and the dot that the bottom. Maybe also move the heart to the left a bit. Sorry, aligning text and graphics on apps and webpages used to be my job 😅
It’s weird because I can tell the design *is* symmetrical, but it doesn’t quite look right. I have had these with patterns of my own, very frustrating. Good luck with your future designs!
Yes she does, and she’s the goodest of babies 🥹 (well done OP! Looks amazing!)
Others have said ignore the tail to make it feel more centered, and I agree. I also think you should ignore the tail of the “y”. It looks like the space between the top of the dog and the “y” in Misty is equal to the space between the text at the bottom, but because the majority of the dog’s name is not level with the tail is the “y” it looks off.
All that said, this looks great! I would absolutely buy one. I lost my soul cat around Christmas and I’d love one of her.
As a SDV fan and someone who does embroidery and cross stitch, I’d advice you to keep practising and improving.
This is very cute, even if there’s a perception of the design being off centre. It’s a really nice idea. However I can see multiple incorrect stitches, it seems you stitched into the wrong hole in several spots, and I didn’t need to zoom in a lot to notice. The floss is a bit twisted too, and it is noticeable in several spots.
I’m assuming you’re a beginner based on that and on the miscalculation with the fabric size so I want to give you some perspective as someone who has sold a few embroidery pieces. Selling finished cross stitch or embroidery of any kind is complicated; the creation process itself is very time consuming and what would be a fair price for the artist is often too costly for the customer. That means that if you want to sell cross stitched items and actually make money out of them, they can’t be anything but perfect. You can sell for a fair price when your pieces are of great quality and showcase your skill (although it’s still not the easiest). But when you aren’t at a high skill level, chances of selling any piece for a fair price that takes into account both the material costs and your hourly wage are very slim. Hourly wage is the biggest cost of embroidery making, and if you aren’t taking that into account for pricing, you’re simply losing money. But you can’t take into account those costs if your skill level isn’t quite there yet, because people aren’t going to want to pay that amount when the piece isn’t absolutely perfect.
I don’t mean to discourage you at all. On the contrary, please keep at it! Like I said this is a very cute idea, as a pet owner I definitely like this. If you keep practising and improving, you can try to sell customised pieces of this design further down the line.
