Getting into Terraria after 1.4.5, trying to understand Luck. Didn’t realize I needed a degree

  1. Just watch the sorbet cafe video on it. Also this equation isn’t very complicated it’s just long.

  2. Let’s say that you have 0.5 luck and the event has a 1/4 chance of happening. n=4 because 1/n=1/4.

    (1/2+1/3)/(2)*0.5+(1/4)*(1/2)=0.333

  3. it looks scary but its p easy, you could do this with paper and pencil though it’d take a while

The lines around the n/2 mean rounding, ⌈n⌉ (ceiling) means ‘round n up’ and ⌊n⌋ (floor) means ‘round n down’

    so ⌊3.5⌋ = 3, and ⌈3.5⌉ = 4

The Σ (summation) means ‘calculate the expression on the right for all values from the bottom number to the top number, and add all the results up’

if you’ve programmed, it’s the math equivalent of a for-loop

and the rest is just basic arithmetic

Just throw one platinum one at the glow for 100% luck. Don’t kill animals or ladybugs; it makes weird things a little less weird.

  5. Just a summation and then some algebra. It looks far more intimidating than it actually is.

  6. From the bottom of that page, sunmarized: Luck increases your odds of basically anything by around 40% of its positive value. If something was 1/10 to drop, having 1 luck (which is max for the math) gets you to 14/100 instead. It includes random item drops, plus hearts, mana stars, etc, but does NOT affect fixed drops – a boss dropping one item out of a list every kill is fixed, luck won’t affect it.
