There seems to be a lot of confusion in this thread. This is not a personal challenge, OP is referring to an actual in game mechanic after getting perfection if you don’t use joja instead of cc, for golden walnuts, or perfection waivers. There is a slight difference in the perfection cutscene.
And no this does not count against that the letter after you get rescued from passing out is random.

Can’t remember. Is this some in-game goal or is this a self-imposed challenge like a nuzlocke? If it’s self-imposed; yes, your run is over. If it’s in-game; I got perfection even though it happened once or twice on my save file

You didnt have a choice in who will rescue you(if im not mistaken its 100% random) so i wouldnt count thay as end of run, but its up to you
I recommend installing the mod that lets you [shoplift from Jojamart](https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/8569) and stealing 3g worth of goods to set the universe back into equilibrium.
